Could be the injectors. This system sounds different than our 88
Cabrio which is all mechanical fuel injection (no 2000 EV Bently
Manuals yet). The sound does vary with RPM. It is odd that it is a
louder sometimes that others. Thanks for the note. It has been there
since day one, not getting worse, so it sounds that you have hit the
likely cause. Just looking to sleep better. Thanks

The noise is, in fact, the fuel injectors. The fuel injection system
consists of a "rail" which is continuously under pressure. The
injectors are electro-magnetic devices, which open and close with an
impulse from the engine management system. When they open and close,
they "click".

I have this ticking noise on my 99 Weekender. We also have the same
ticking
noise on our 99 New Beetle. On the New Beetle Email List there was
a
discussion a while back in which many said it was the fuel
injection.
Don't
know if this is right or wrong, just passing on an idea.
