99 GLS and Fuel lines

David R. Johnson

My thanks to list mates who have provided leads on new EV's.? I've contacted a few already and will continue.? My 93 GL was removed from life support (officially) the other day and will be totaled out.? Right now, the two carriers are arguing.? The other driver was at fault, and her company will pay the claim if they admit fault.? My company came back with the typical low ball offer.? How insulting.

Anyway, I had a chance to drive a new 99 GLS today.? It arrived two days ago at a local dealer.? My first experience with the VR6.? Noticeable improvement in power.? Smaller steering wheel, too.? Liked the brakes, much more responsive than my 93.? Still stunned by the sticker, but have begun to see some reductions.? This one had a sunroof and bun-warmer front seats as options.? Sticker was $32,400.? Friendly salesman said I could have it all for a mere $30,000.

Regarding fuel lines, I opened the hood and specifically checked out the fuel lines.? Same old stuff.? Black plastic line with a matching blue return line.? Both had the odd looking bottle cap clamps, which was the problem on my 93.? The other fuel line clamps are the spring type clamps.? I didn't see anything different.? Perhaps they are using a better quality rubber on the fuel line, but I have no way of knowing.? I guess I was hoping to see a completely re-worked fuel line assembly, but didn't.
