My wife and I just came back from taking my parents and brother on a 1500
mile camping trip in Maine. Trying to camp with the middle bench seat is an
adventure to say the least.
My wife, 2 pugs, and I slept in a tent on a new air mattress that decided
that 4 hours was as long as it was going to hold enough air to be
comfortable. We were forced to refill it in the middle of every night.
My parents slept on the top bunk since they felt it was roomier than the
bottom and gave better ventilation. My brother slept on the bottom bed. To
accomplish this we flipped the middle bench around, took it off the tracks
and rolled it towards the front seats which were pushed forward. This gave
enough room for the bed to fold out and be able to sit in the bench at the
same time.
We were forced to use picnic benches every time we ate, something we had
never done with just the 2 of us camping. We definitely missed the
convenience of being able to ignore our surroundings to eat a meal or go to
the bathroom (there wasn't enough room for a portapotty with everyone's
crap)
All in all it was a good time as we saw York beach, Ogonquit, Kennebunkport
beach, Camden, Pemaquid Point, Acadia and the unavoidable LL Bean stop in
Freeport. It was nice weather barring the fog that kept coming in that
blocked many of the nice views from Acadia. However, we did hear the
Thunder in Thunder Hole for the first time in 5 visits.
