The brush idea is a good one but I will recommend the unit be pulled to do
this. the only place for the soot to go is down on top of the burner. When a
fridge is cleaned it is recommended that the burner be covered first so that
no soot gets in. This is true for the vacuum trick also. If you hit the flue
with a hammer you should have the vacuum attached and turned on while you do
it.
My expectation is that they have brushes and vacuums to get all the soot out, and I know some have cameras they can use to inspect the flue and box to make sure it is clean.

If/when I try it I'll of course let y'all know how it turns out.

This is the only propane fridge I have seen (I have lived with one in my
house for over 20 years and have had them in other campers) that did not
have a cleaning rod that matched the flue size. Most of the time it is just
a piece of metal that has been twisted on the end of a metal rod . That is
enough to break the soot free. As I have stated before I bet that norcold
was prodded by Winnbago into this design knowing that there would be
problems down the road.
Good luck and good cooling
