Re: transmission temperature guage

I haven't found an ez spot to mount sender, I want it at the hottest spot.

-I've seen tranny temp gauge added by welding a fitting onto the pan.

Some have added external tranny coolers via Sommax fittings

and T'ed temp gauge into the cooler lines.

Some have added external tranny cooler via welding fittings to the pan
and using an oil transfer pump going to cooler, and T'd temp gauge
into the hot line.

I had T'd off the Exit (HOT) port on tranny when I was experimenting
with various coolers (similar to Sonnax). I'm planning on modifying
the stock cooler banjo bolt and weld a temp fitting to the top of the
HOT side.

There is a pic on Vortex of a gauge mounted in the port to the front
of the fill tube, but I haven't figured out how to get the existing
fitting / wires out of that hole.

I looked for a place to drill the tranny case for a temp port, but not
ready to do that yet ...

I've been checking the case temp(and HOT side banjo bolt) with my
hand-held IR since I disconnected the tranny gauge, unfortunately the
differential seems to get pretty hot too! Maybe I can find some
surface contact sensors, rather than 'emerged'. I have an electronic
gauge that has a 1/8 - npt sensor. It was ~ $40 for both. I like the
full sweep needle shown in the cooler pics posted on this site., mine
is only 90 Deg. sweep with colored zones. 100F to 350F. I found there
is a lot of lag in tranny temp, but once it starts climbing it goes to
the moon if you keep driving under load, especially at RPM under 3000.
(slipping TC). Thus I do a lot of 'manual' shifting since I live in a
mountainous area.
