Thanks, Pete, I went ahead and pried up the top cover and pulled them
off using a fair amount of force. To put the new ones one I had to
remove the galley lid stop that is screwed to the wall on the left side
and then remove the plastic window shade covering so that I could push
the galley lid far enough back to get the hydraulic lifter to fit onto
the metal mounting pieces. I thought they were just "too long" at first
until I did all that. All is well and the galley lid works like a champ.

We removed our top completely and find it works better for us, giving
us lots more light when the galley is in operation. We also added a
cutting board to cover the sink, which adds counter space and hides
dirty dishes!
