Re: Leak (?) in feed gear box

Almus,

?

I just went through this exercise. I have a V13 and the manual calls out Mobile DTE Light for the gear box. This is a European standard so I called Chevron to get the US equivalent for the gear oil. They sold me Chevron GST 32. This only came in 5 gallon buckets and was $55. I also got the chevron equivalent for the way oil and grease points. They are ¡°Chevron Way Oil 68¡± and ¡°Chevron Duralith 2¡±. The way oil only comes in 5 gallon buckets and was also about $50. The Duralith 2 was about $3. ?Hope this helps -Mark

?

I think that I overfilled my gear box; this is the
"Norton" qc gearbox not the head stock.

My manual specs 140wt lube for threading/feed gear box
and I think 20wt for the head stock.? The head stock
has a sight gauge whereas the feed box does not.

The manual doesn't specify an? amount.?? Wife wasn't
happy with the over-flow and I didn't hide it in time.

How much oil did you put in the gearbox?, mine is at a level where the
bottom two gears are about a 1/4 imersed in oil, and I dont remember
the oil being 140wt either, I seem to remember that I followed some
advice on the old Super 11 forum.

I contacted EMCO last week to ask for any info they might be able to
supply on any of the lathes covered by our group, no answer yet!

There does not appear to be any evidence of
cracks but I think that it is leaking where
a shaft penetrates. Are there seals on the
shafts?? Or did I over fill?

Has anybody else had (and solved) such

Welcome to the group.

What kind of work are you doing with your machines ?, I am always
looking out for an F1 mill.

I currently have a V10P with milling attachment, Compact5 CNC, and a
Unimat 3 with milling attachment, I am happy with all of these
machines. I am making parts for racing model aircraft with these machines.

I have only ever seen one Maximat 7 for sale and that was on Ebay back
in 2004, V10's come up a little more often, where abouts are you ?

How about posting some photos of your work and machines.

I thought that some of the emcos came with Dickson (sp??)
toolpost. Which I think were made in England. At least this
was what I had been told by some guy at Blue Ridge Machinery.

engineering.co.uk/Engineering/dicksonquickchangetoolpost.htm

Being in the UK, do you have easier access to Emco
products? Are they easier to get parts for in Europe?

On my machine previous owner attached a massive Aloris AXA toolpost
bolt (1/2" bolt I think). It is not clear how they attached
it. It looks like some part is pressed in, drilled
and tapped. So I don't think that I could easily go back.
Or at least I would be scared to screw it up.

I stumbled across a post on some old group that indicated that
the Super11 had the same problem at least with the cut off tool.

Almus

It is very possible that EMCO machines may have been fitted out with
English toolposts and chucks when sold in the English market.

Dickson were the main name in Q/C toolposts some years ago in
England, but the onslought of the far eastern products has removed
them from most hobby users shopping list.

I have a complete price list from one of the English EMCO
distributors, some parts are not too bad on price some are just sky
high! this list is part of the material I will put up in the forum.
When I called this distributor for some parts for my Compact5 CNC he
had them all avalible.

For some reason I just cannot get the Super 11 service parts list to
upload, Yahoo keeps saying the file has no data. I will check into
this at the weekend.

Hi I remember this topic got kicked around on the
Old site... but.

Is there an off-the-shelf quick change toolpost
that fits the V10 and the S11 lathes?

previous owner of my V10P had put on an Aloris 100 series
toolpost...but I couldn't even get 3/8" toolbits
to get low enough to be on center. I had to machine the toolholder
bottoms (to the tune of 0.140").. However I can't really
do enough for the cut-off toolholder as the cut off
blade is 1/2" AND it is held at an upward sloping angle.

Does the KDK 0 series do it? I seem to recall that their
website claims that that series can handle 0.75" and
larger base to lathe center. I was wondering

how much +/- there is in that 0.75" because
that is about how much the distance is on the V10P.

Great. I have some wiring diagrams for the V10; They need

Welcome to the V10P group.

Welcome to this group for enthusiasts of the fine Emco V10 series of
lathes, I will post as much information as I can into the files and
photos sections.

New members will have to be approved, this is only to try and filter
out the spam merchants, also the first message from new members will
have to be approved for the same reasons, I hope this will prevent the
rubbish that can be seen in some of the yahoo forums.

Please feel free to contribute or add information, the more the better
the group will be.
