I'm new to this club and this hobby as well. I
have a plan to build my fist boat and want to get some
input to see if I'm headed the right
direction.

I like in NW Illinois. We have plenty of great
waterways to explore but more and more, many areas are
banning internal combustion proplusion. Check out the Feb
2001 issue of B.A.S.S. Times. There is an article on
how many areas are banning PWC. Thats why I'm
interested in going electric. Speed isn't an issue to
me.

The plans I'm looking at are for 16' Pirogue from
www.common-sense-boats.com. I want the ability to use sail, paddle and
electric power. Since this will be my first atempt at boat
building, I better start small and inexpensive until I get
my skills up to snuff.

I'm not sure if I
should just build the boat according to the plans and
add the electric system later or try to plan for the
motor as I build the first boat. I have several friends
who will be building boats right along with me so we
will have a "fleet" of these small crafts when we are
done.

My biggest question is, inboard or
outboard? Plenty of people are telling me to just bolt on a
trolling motor and hit the water. My only problem with
that is the way it will look....UGLY!!! I would really
rather have the motor inboard but I wonder how much that
would hinder perfomance under a sail (BTW...I know
nothing about sailing either...have I lost my mind?)

So, what do you all think? Any tips or advice would
be greatly appreciated!!!
