I took a right & returned to KROA via the NE Practice Area.
I looked up KLWB on my flying App (iflyEFB), & could not find anything, NOTAM or otherwise, pertaining to KLWB having its runway closed.
Later, I googled the airport website mylwb.com & found a note there saying that the runway would be closed from 8/25/24-8/31/24 but might be closed longer based upon the weather & the project progress.
Am I missing something? Does this runway closure show up on ForeFlight or FlyQ or something else?

Thank you for raising these points. Indeed I have called the FAA in Oklahoma many times, I have spoken with all of them multiple times. "Hi Dana, good to speak with you again. We last spoke on the 30th of July...."??
At first they said there was nothing I could do. Eventually, when I pressed further they did agree to escalate this matter to the Supervisor. However, that has not apparently helped. Perhaps it is merely a placation.
I have also been in touch with the APOA medical team, They told me also there 'there is nothing anyone can do. Just be patient.' I have only asked a few times - It could be true that I wasn't persistent enough with the AOPA.
I am open to ultralights, but one of my goals it to take my Dad (now 85) for a flight, so I prefer to earn a Sport Pilot license. My Dad owned a Cessna 120 (N1972V, presently hangered at Warrenton–Fauquier Airport, by the way). I believe I may have been in the plane as an infant. Anyway, my Dad missed several private pilot checkrides due to weather and circumstances, eventually sold the plane, as he says, "to buy diapers". There is some degree of regret that he never got his pilot license. I would really like to take him for a plane flight someday, to close the loop, in a manner of speaking.
Barring some miracle with the Class 3 medical,? I will focus on a Sport Pilot then decide if I want to try again for a Class 3 medical.

Michael,
?Have you called Oklahoma about the status of your medical? I have found them helpful. Also at sun-n-fun and Oshkosh there are representatives there that can look into your situation. One of our chapter members did that with success. The sqeaky wheel gets the oil. What have you got to lose. The immediate resolution is ultralight flying. That may really appeal to you but is another option to get you in the air. No license needed.

Mike,
?I'm quite sure LSA can be rented. I believe Cessna has a Light Sport certified airplane called SkyCatcher 162. If it is an experimental aircraft then it can not be used commercially. We have a member in the chapter that has a certified motor glider that is LSA. Most importantly is finding a designated examiner that gives the practical test and thus your license. I'm quite sure it is terribly frustrating trying to follow your dream while dealing with this. A solution is out there. We just have to find it.
I am a CFI and have a light sport airplane (ercoupe).? I am assuming you have had a student medical if you have been taking lessons.? However, if you are denied a medical, I'm not sure if you can even fly a light sport (not sure).? Mark 540-525-9143 I prefer talking on a phone.

Hello EAA 646 Folks, Thanks to a painfully slow FAA Medical process (my last submission was Oct 24th and still no response) my AME exam (Sept 2, 2022) will expire before I get a Class 3 medical. So I am looking seriously at a Sport Pilot License. I am fine with a 2-seater and VFR day flying.
I have about 55 hours in the Diamond DA-40 with StarFlight at KROA, but obviously I have yet to solo.
My question: Can anyone point me to an instructor and an LSA plane? I am not certain, but I heard that LSA planes can't be rented, so how does one get in one for a lesson? The only solution I can think of is I have to build/buy my own LSA. That said, maybe I am misunderstanding.
Anyway, thanks if you are able to help. If you don't like to type, I would be willing to speak over the phone.
Hi All, Thanks for the helpful feedback!? ?To answer Ann's questions: I have a driver's license and a student pilot license. I already took the written exam and passed with solid margin, but it was more than 2 years ago so I'll need to re-take it.?
The initial medical was denied because I wasn't on a medication that the FAA required. Stupid me listened to my doctor who said. "I'd never put anyone on this medication for this condition". In my response back to the FAA I included a doctor's note saying he disagreed with the FAA in my case. Big Mistake.
The FAA then denied my application (surprise!), but put in a clause in their response saying that if I did go on the medication and showed I could tolerate it for 2 weeks (w/ doctors note) then they'd reconsider. Which I promptly did. Technically, it was denied, but it's been under reconsideration since October 2023.?
My now Rule #1 with dealing with the FAA medical: Insist that your doctor do that they say!
I am glad to hear that LSAs can be rented - thank you for correcting this misunderstanding.
As far as timing for the new MOSAIC law, I just saw a with an ostensibly reliable source (Rian Johnson w/ Vans)?estimating that the Rule will come out May to July 2025, then go into effect 6-10 months later. Worst case it will be in full effect, May 2026, best case November 2024.?
I will continue to seek out a local plane and CFI for a Sport pilot. Thank you all for your encouragement and advice.??
Cheers,
Mike

Hi!
I have a couple of questions:
Do you have a pilot certificate?
Was your III medical application denied? ?Or just expired? Have a current driver’s license?
?
AsI understand it, if you hold a private pilot certificate, you can exercise sport pilot privileges. You must understand and abide by sport pilot limitations. Your III class medical must not have been denied. My advice would be to study the sport pilot written exam materials to be sure you understand the scope and limitations of sport pilot. ?I would get an instructor to review with me and finalize any logbook endorsements.

According to the new FAA reauthorization, LSA category will be extended to include many airplanes including ?the DA40 and possibly up to the 182. The details are not yet clear but will be made realistically soon due to the Reauthorization already being signed into law by the president. Additionally, light sport CFI’s can be anyone with a PPL who takes the Exam for LSA CFI. I imagine this will become highly popular in the coming years given these changes in the categories.
Watch that video they explain the changes in better detail.
Hope this helps,
