Locked This marvellous and 'easy to use' programme fails for the simple and very obvious reason that there is no guide on how to its use it (nor, apparently, any intention to provide such...) 3
…and the question ‘where can [I] find a guide,’ or very similar, has been asked since at least 2006… except, all we get is avoidance and/or ‘nice’ obfuscations… Personally, I have come to the conclusion that PSUD(x) is useless (to myself) as it stands. And… that is a great shame on tts author? How many of us wish it were otherwise?

Resistor at center-tap 2
Topic locked, so I'll start a new one. A resistor inserted at the center tap of a full-wave rectifier acts the same as adding two resistors of the same value, one in series with each diode, and could be modeled as extra resistance in the secondary. Of course the dissipation is doubled (RMS current is 1.4 times what is modeled). This could also be used provide a negative bias voltage, though it's not much different from cathode bias. Often called "back bias". Definitely out of PSUD territory...

broken links? databases which do exist and other woes 5
Since foolishly embarking on the now long-deleted (Walton) published SE design (I was and am on a very restricted budget...) over a decade ago only to find some of the major (i.e. very expensive!) components (Plitron chokes) were no longer available, I turned to the internet for help to redesign and found, among really very few other resources... PSUD2. Hey! I thought with this help I would possibly ditch the valve rectifier and go with silicon. But that was then... I have never really been able to get to grips with PSUD2 (I have build 77) and having an intel MacBook didn't help either until some kind soul showed me how to insert filter sections. Yeah basic stuff - as others have sagely observed: when you don't know - you don't know. What to look out for has always been the issue: e.g. just what influence do those asymmetic chopped off sinusoidal 100mS current traces in C1 really have? Can I (should I?) get rid of them? So, I sequentially change C1 or C2... Cn or L1... Ln - and observe whether that makes a 'good' diffierence and then I look at what happens out to 10,000mS after a reporting delay of x ~ but what does all that mean? The variables are dynamic and there seems no way of knowing what is good enough. I now find I can not use PSUD to model the silicon diodes I had intended (Hexfreds as it happens) ~ since the rectifier list does indeed appear MIA and groups host shows no such thing as a database... therefore I could not find the recent information on the recently group post concerning another contibutor's Hexfreds anywhere. As a former Chemist a mathematical method for enumerating Vfac and Vlaw such as simultaneous logarithmic equations has not been the issue for me. - no, what I am struggling to say is really how to use PSUD. A cursory glance at more modern PSU schema (such as by Dipl. Ing. Jac van de Walle (www.jacmusic.com) and using serially connected choke for improved common mode rejection - shows a plethera of different approaches but I have not attempted to model these on PSUD. Please do not "get me wrong," PSUD is clearly a very GREAT project one which has clearly taken a great deal of time and specialist expertise - I only wish there was as great a guide to its use.

Rectifiers file 7
I tried updating rectifiers.txt, and adding a new rectifier online, then downloaded rectifiers.txt without making any difference. Docs are confusing - I have the current version and release notes say: 'Rectifiers are now stored as XML files for easier sharing and updates. ' If only... How can I add a rectifier I can't see any xml file with psud2.exe. Tia John

MacOS workaround for rectifier files "Access Violation"
For the past year (or more!) I've been getting an error message when I try to run PSUD2 -- MacOS reports an access violation and the program won't load. After reading about how the rectifier file is named and located in Windows, I found the PSUD2 rectifier files in my Documents folder. However, the PSUD2 folder was in iCloud Drive -- not actually on the local machine. After clicking the iCloud icon, which downloads the folder to the local machine, PSUD2 now works just fine. The MacOS error (access violation) occurs despite giving PSUD2 "Full Disk Access." Not sure how the Documents/PSUD2 folder had been sent to iCloud Drive. I hope this helps.

Possible bug? Recovering from deleted load 4
Not sure if this is a user error thing or a bug. Steps to reproduce 1. Delete the final load node. 2. If you try to 'fix' this by adding a tap to the end it wont be considered a closed circuit 3. Receive error occured access violation 4. No way to recover unless start from fresh thanks!

Is there a build for M1/M2 Mac? 10
I'm getting an error when trying to run the builds for MacOS in the Files. Is this because I am running on a M2 Mac? Thanks.

Power Supply Design Program 2
At one time about 6 months ago I was in an io group where there was a program you could use to design a power supply, made available through that group. Not long after that my Windows 7 laptop crashed with a bad hard drive. I got another hard drive and put Linux Mint 21.1 on it. So I lost all my groups and log-ins. Does that design program work on Linux and how do I get it? Thank you, Tom Finley, Monroe NC. htfprinting@...

Valve doubler bug in PSUD2 ? 6
Duncan, seems you're busy with V3, but perhaps you have time to quickly check an inconsistent response when using a valve based voltage doubler. I have a setup with 330V 21R secondary supplying a 2x 5U4G per arm rectifier into 47uF 1R filter caps with simple 7.5kohm load. It provides about 780V output across 7k5, but the concern is the markedly different diode current waveform asymmetry, and the resultant different voltages across the series connected output caps. I tried different options settings (accuracy, frequency, leakage) but no change. There is some variation with different valve diode models, but the asymmetry doesn't show with ss diodes. I'm using Windows build 76, V2.22. I can't quickly find this topic issue discussed on-line. My previous use of doublers in PSUD2 have been ss based, but I have a valve based doubler in an amp on the bench now :-) Ciao, Tim Robbins

Thank you! 4
I hope this message isn't a bother to everyone, I just wanted to say thanks to Duncan for making this software available. I have been playing around with it for a bit, and and it's great! Thank you Duncan! If anybody else feels this way, i suppose this is a good thread to pile in to. Cheers, Tim

Where did the current go? 4
Hi. I've been poking around trying to explain a 10volt difference between PSUD2 and LTSpice results for an EZ81 based power supply. It's not a big deal (the amp's been working for years) - I'm just trying to understand the use of both tools for Power Supply design. I've been assuming that the difference is in the models of the EZ81. I kept trimming the design down until I reached the attached configuration. The Transformer current matches the Diode current, but the Resistor current (Mean) is 7mA less. What am I missing?

Capacitors in series to increase working voltage question 4
Hi, apologies if this has been asked before, to model capacitors in series I assume you model one capacitor at half the value. For example two 220uF caps in series would be modelled as one 110uf Cap. For the resistors around each cap for current flow I assume you disregard as they are only there for the series connected caps. Also, has anyone modeled the Audion Edison 60 amp running EL34 and 6H1N valves as I'm have a few power supply problems mainly due to smoothing capacitor voltage and I think noise induced by failing caps (two 220uf 250v in series) at the EL34 and then single 220uf 450v for the 6H1N. I'm running E88C instead of the 6H1N's. I've pasted in one of lefthand channel including power supply Paul

Adding rectifiers 7
I followed your tutorial on YouTube on getting the proper specs (Vlaw,Vfac,Dres) to add a rectifier. I modified one of the files with my info, and when I went to save it, it told me I didn't have permission to save it in the "RECTIFIER" directory. I need admin rights to do so. So how to I add my rectifier to the directory so I can use it in PSUD2?
