Just finished making some new High/Low gears for the Real Bull mini lathe.
Standard RELS surfacing and facing the blanks.
CNC cut the teeth 12 T 20 T 21 T 29 T.
The 12 T 20 T were cut separately and then shrunk together.
CNC cut the the keyways.See video.
A photo shows checking the distance between meshing teeth.
I cut my teeth a smidgin larger, True distance from c/l of the layshaft to the c/l of the spindle?
is 1 13/16" or 46.18 mm.
I believe the Sieg or H/F have the same dimension.
By meshing the teeth held on the arbors used to cut them, one arbor in the lathe chuck and?
the other in the QCTP boring tool holder, then slip the gears off the arbors and then measuring? across the diameters?
by subtracting half the arbor diameters from the initial measurement I ended up with 46.45 mm.
This will allow me some "bedding in" of gears when fitted to the headstock.
Hope of intere
