Well, generally is it is:

a) To keep sharp, hardened edges from banging against each other, causing them to dull or chip.
b) To avoid having to dig through 50 sharp edged tools looking for the one you need. every.damn.time. :-)

But this is a rule more honored in the breach, I suspect.?

I have a box of reamers from a yard sale that has > 50 reamers all lumped together in a wood box.

I cannot imagine how much room would be needed if all of these reamers were in individual holders.

These reamers have been together for years they were in the box before I bought it 10 years ago.

So why is it said to not allow them to touch?
