I am using a encoder.
Sorry now that I actually look at the spec sheet I see the resolution is?48 to 2048 PPR.
You just set buttons to get different resolutions.

What does your circuit look like?

Thanks, my encoder is variable. I can do 30 - 3000
ppr.
Interesting, what do you need to do to change the output count?
With the 74LS86 is the output variable or just doubled?
It is doubled
Why was this needed for RELS?
So that typically an 1800 pulse encoder can be read as 3600
I wonder if the pulse would be cleaner/sharper.
Possibly

When
a quadrature encoder is used for speed measurement this
doubles the
resolution.? A 200cpr encoder can be used at 400 counts per
revolution.
