Unit is 19¡± rack mount with two 80GB disks included. No cables. Powered up for me without a problem about a year ago. Probably contains an ancient version of Windows. DFWRPI 07/2024
And now for something entirely different: just in case you are still somewhat functional after Independence Day, there's, as always, the DFWRPI Usersgroup Meeting. Though, this month there's a change. I'm recovering from a hip replacement, and I'm not supposed to drive, so we'll have this one virtual, online only, so NOT IN PERSON at the lab. Everything else is same old, same old. You are not getting rid of me that easily. So, here we go: Topic: DFWRPI 07/2024 Time: Jul 6, 2024 10:00 Central Time (US and Canada) Join Zoom Meeting https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85706094836?pwd=Ptj1gWp1cNkrEHDeXa627wPQbvHUFq.1 Meeting ID: 857 0609 4836 Passcode: 544976 --- One tap mobile +13462487799,,85706094836#,,,,*544976# US (Houston) +17193594580,,85706094836#,,,,*544976# US --- Dial by your location ? +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) ? +1 719 359 4580 US ? +1 253 205 0468 US ? +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) ? +1 669 444 9171 US ? +1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose) ? +1 305 224 1968 US ? +1 309 205 3325 US ? +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) ? +1 360 209 5623 US ? +1 386 347 5053 US ? +1 507 473 4847 US ? +1 564 217 2000 US ? +1 646 931 3860 US ? +1 689 278 1000 US ? +1 929 205 6099 US (New York) ? +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) Meeting ID: 857 0609 4836 Passcode: 544976 Find your local number: https://us06web.zoom.us/u/kj7NXhfsv

J Jentink
Hi, Jon (J) Jentink passed away today, June 27, 2024, at his home near Diana, Texas. J was an active member of the Dallas/Fort Worth Unix Users Group, the North Texas Linux Users Group, and the Dallas Raspberry Pi Users Group. He was also an Expert-rated ham radio operator interested in QRP transmission and devices. In lieu of a religious service, we are thinking of a memorial service to be held at a DFW-area restaurant where we can talk about his life. I am thinking of doing this next weekend, July 6 or 7, perhaps around 1 PM. Please let me know if this seems reasonable to do, or if you have other suggestions of how to honor J. DFWRPI Usergoop Meeting 6/2024
2
If any possible, we'll be having our monthly get-together both online, see below, and in person at https://thelab.ms/ The reason for the "if any possible" is that we had a storm roll through this morning. Downed trees, flipped 18-wheelers somewhere, cellphone coverage, depending on location, deficient at best. At this time the lab has power, but the forecast has more messes at the ready. Right now dallasrpi.org is offline, courtesy of complete and quite likely prolonged power loss. Last time something like this rolled through it took five days to recover. Bottom line is, if nobody is here at the lab Saturday 1000CDT, or the lab is dark, then try online to see if I found a place with juice and a decent uplink. If not, then we'll have to skip June, and I see all y'all in July. RPi5 with QHY533C
3
I'm running FireCapture v2.7.14 on a RPi 5 with 8G and NVMe SSD. I have a QHY533C and a ZWO ASI120MM Mini cameras. The RPi 5 is running Bookworm. When I use FC with the 120MM, it seems to work fine. With the QHY, it seems to struggle. I've been playing with the settings to try and optimize (reading through some of the posts here). With the QHY, if I set it to bin x2 the preview looks ok (although debayer is not allowed). I do see that 1 core of the RPi is pegged at 100%, even when using 1 FPS. With the 120MM, the CPU usage is much lower on all cores. I realize the QHY has a lot more data to retrieve. If I uncheck the FPS control so the FPS goes up to 10, the % usage on that core goes down slightly to 96% - 98%. Maybe not really an issue, but seems odd. Just something that I noticed based on my years as a RTOS and Linux kernel developer. I'm using Kstars/ekos/PHD2 on the RPi to control my mount and cameras, I am intending on using FC to give me a live view for doing manual focusing, then go back to Kstars for the data collection. Would I be better to use indi server with FC, or leave it directly connecting to the camera like I am using it now? This post is part introduction, and part looking for suggestions to tweak FC for better performance. Thanks! Pete Kockritz
