BPI:bit
(I'll copy this over on the Yahoo group list as well) Here's a slick little board I just discovered. One is on its way to me right now. It's in the basic form factor of a micro:bit from the BBC but 10-mm longer. The BPI-bit has a much more powerful processor (ESP-32) with 4MB of flash and 256K of RAM compared to the micro:bit with its paltry Cortex-M0 with 16K of RAM and 256K of flash. Oh yeah, the ESP32 can be clocked up to 240-MHz compared to the micro:bit's 16-MHz. The limitation I'm running into on the micro:bit is RAM and I wish it could be a tad faster so this may be my new goto tinker toy since it runs MicroPython. Instead of the micro:bit's 25 red LEDs there are 25 RGB LEDs using only a single I/O line. :-o It has an accelerometer and magnetometer like the micro:bit but it also has a GYROSCOPE, thermistor, buzzer, full Bluetooth and 2.4-GHz Wifi. This comes from the people that make the Banana Pi and the only place I can find it for sale is AliExpress so getting them will require a trip from mainland China. Price comes in at under US$20 (plus $4 for shipping to US), which is on par with the WiPy but it has more peripherals attached than either it or the micro:bit. With heavy hearts...
This came in from the Tanner Electronics Facebook page: Tanner Electronics Inc. 1 hr With heavy hearts we must announce that we will be closing the store permanently effective June 1st?. This was a very hard decision for our family but unfortunately it was our only choice. We have been truly blessed to have been in business for over 33 years in Carrollton and had the opportunity to serve such amazing customers. Stop in and shop we are still ordering and restocking inventory daily and Jim is finding unusual deals in the warehouse that is he selling for low prices. -- _____ |\/ o \ o Rusty Haddock <=> AE5AE | ( -< O o Settled down in oh-so-fancy Plano. |/\__V__/ Math illiteracy affects 7 out of 5 people!

Lab postponed all meet-ups for two weeks.
Heads up: The City of Plano just declared a public emergency, check <https://www.plano.gov/DocumentCenter/View/43138/Emergency-Declaration-March-16-2020-PDF> for details. The lab is not shutting down, but all meetups for the next two weeks have been postponed. Our April meeting is further out than that, so it could well be that it is going to take place as scheduled. Expect updates when available. Sorry about this. This bug needs some serious debugging. -Cornelius

No May Meeting
Heads up, all y'all, Since we have yet to debug and contain COVID-19 properly, May's DFW RPI UG meeting has been cancelled, as we cannot enforce occupancy limits, social distancing recommendations, as well as multiple sanitations/day at the lab. If anybody has an idea about what to present online using which widely available teleconferencing mechanism, please let me know. #sadmakers -Cornelius
