More likely the phone. Has less memory compared to the TMO one. On the TMO Samsung, termux stays up throughout, even when sentenced to background duty. On the AT&T one, it restarts every time I get it back from the background.

For some dumb reason my AT&T phone no longer sends SMSs through termux.
Using the messaging app everything works, termux-sms-send just
hangs. My
TMO phone, on the other hand, does just fine. The longer I play with
this, the more I like using an LTE-modem for this task.

SSH Certificate talk

Hi,

Jessie Saenz gave an interesting talk tonight on SSH Certificates and
how to automate the process for a large group of users.

Jessie's web site is <www.jessiesaenz.me> There are a number of blog
posts there, including one on SSH Certificates. For work on
automating the creation of an SSH CA, the signing of Certificates for
Host Public Keys and the signing of short-lived Certificates for User
Public Keys, see:

Forth2020 Cafe this Saturday, 0800CDT

Now for something entirely different, in form of the Forth2020 Cafe.

Forth is a very interesting programming language, a little bit like scripting, by its nature pretty close to the metal. Lends itself to microcontrollers in a similar fashion as MicroPython does.

The Forth2020 users group meets on the second Saturday each month on Zoom, because participants hail from all corners on this rock. Meetings mostly alternate between one with a formal agenda (talks between 10 and 30 minutes each) and the cafe, which does not have any agenda. This weekend it's the cafe.

For more information, check and

0800CDT == 1300UTC. Might want to convert that into your local time at places such as

DFWUUG meeting April 10, 2025

Heads up, y'all:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

The April 10th DFWUUG meeting will be at 7 PM at Improving in Plano. Pizza will be available about 6:30. The meeting will be live and on Zoom.

Improving has offices at 5445 Legacy Drive, Suite 100, Plano, TX 75024. That's about a mile southeast of the intersection of the Dallas Tollway and the Sam Rayburn Tollway (Texas 121).

The Dallas Ft. Worth UNIX User?s Group offers area UNIX users the opportunity to attend monthly meetings that include presentations from industry experts, small break-out sessions for special interest groups, and free pizza!

Our meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of each month.

If you?d like to get involved and increase your networking opportunities, join us for our next meeting:

Thursday, April 10, 2025, 7:00 PM

The April 10th meeting will be live and virtual through Zoom.

Presentation/Talk: Jessie Saenz will present "How to Implement SSH Certificates"

Jessie will bring a couple of Raspberry Pi's to serve as an SSH CA Server and a test "Host" that participants can submit their public keys to and receive SSH Certificates for to SSH into the test "Host" with. So bring your wifi-equipped laptops.

If you plan on attending, please let me know by Wednesday noon so that we can have enough enough pizzas ordered for everyone: syarus aatt gmail ddoott com

========================================================

The doors to the building are locked at 6 PM. Someone will be available to let you in after 6. There may be a note taped to the building doors with a cell phone number on it to call to get someone to let you in.

You can get to Improving early and wait in their lobby. Improving has wifi available for guests, should you bring a laptop. I have arrived there as early as 5 PM.

DFWRPI 2025-04

It's getting pretty freakin' tricky to distinguish regular news and April fool's pranks. Like AT&T turning off its email-to-SMS, SMS-to-email functionality on June 17. Not one bit happy about that one. Announced it yesterday. That's only slightly less annoying than Sony turning off the PS3's Linux capability back in 2010, also on the 1st of April.

But, since we all survived April 1st in hopefully recognizable form and shape, there's no reason to not attend this one, as always, both in person at and online right here:
