Re: Victor Stream switching off

Dear Pele,

What kind of sd card do you use on your stream?

I have no idea if this applies to your newer stream.

Victor Stream switching off

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi all,

?

Over the past few weeks, I¡¯ve encountered a rather strange occurrence when for some odd reason, my Victor Stream will switch itself off without any warning.

?

The other day, I was listening to an internet radio recording I¡¯d made, when the Stream suddenly went silent and on checking, the device was switched off. There was no warning, or any announcement to say Victor stream powering off, as it does when the battery is empty.

?

Yesterday morning, I was out and so left the Stream recording but on my return, I noticed no sound and discovered that the Stream had turned off.

?

On playing back my recording from yesterday morning, I noticed that during the final minute or so ,the audio jumps a bit, before the recording ended ,with the usual ¡°end of recording¡± message.

?

In all instances when the Stream has mysteriously turned off, the unit had been charged and yesterday, it was plugged in and pretty much fully charged.

?

If anyone can shed any light on why the above is happening, or can offer a solution, please do let me know.

?

Thanks

?

Paul. ?

Re: external speakers for the Stream and Trek

Hi Paul

Humanware used to, and might still, sell a small pair of speakers joined together. The unit unfolded and you could stand the stream or trek between them. They are quite good, each speaker takes 2 AAA batteries.

But any small wired speakers will work.

Personally, I plug my stream into a Bose Soundlink speaker, which makes it sound pretty good.

external speakers for the Stream and Trek

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi all,

?

Wonder if you could please help.

?

Would love to know if there is a good pair of small wired speakers which are suitable for use with both the Stream or Trek.

?

Whilst I can manage with the small speaker on both units and whilst I can use headphones, I do work from home and use either unit, so if I should receive, or have to make a telephone call, or am in a Teams meeting, I can just press the record button on either unit.

?

It would be nice to have a larger speaker, or speakers attached, so as to bring in the better sound quality.

?

Am mindful that Bluetooth isn¡¯t an option, given I purchased both units in 2017.

?

Any thoughts on the above, most welcome.

?

Thanks

?

Paul.

Re: BBC local radio streams - not all BBC locals know the Olympic Games is Over!

Sorry if of not much interest to some here, but i note BBC WM and Hereford and Worcester are still denying listeners there lower quality radio streams and nothing to do with local sports coverageeither.

Given I live in the West Midlands I can of course listen to them on DAB/FM although its my least favourite BBC local station.? Yes, I've been through all the BBC local stationson Pele's list and those are the two who either haven't got the message about the ending of the Olympics or more likely they cannot simply be bothered, to put it politely.

I shall write a short suggestion to Humanware sales that they must allow a future incarnation of the Stream/Trek to access the higher quality streams I refered to a week or two back.? Much good may it do me!? I fear Humanware is just about as unreachable as the BBC!

Thanks for you your correction Pele.? I don't know how I had come to that conclusion about the saving of settings, but I have checked and you are right.? I can only put it down to a past or present senior moment.? I'll go and have a lie down!

On the stream, provided you press the Hash key after each selection, when you press Star to leave the menu the new settings are saved.

I have just tested it.

Re: inconsistencies with Victor Stream and Victor Trek

Paul, Like Pele I have not got an answer for your station order question with the Stream except maybe putting the SD card to which you have saved the recordings into a USB card reader and then there might be a possibility of using a program to re-order the files in the radio recordings folder.

On the other question about time jumpt intervals adjustment, after following Pele's instructions press the number 1 key to access the VR menu system and NOT the cancel button to get out of the settings menu.? Pressing the cancel button means the settings you select won't stick.

I don't know the answer to your first question about station name order, but I might be able to throw some light on your other question.

I have a stream, but I think this works on the Trek as well. Apologies if you already know this.

1. Go to the Offline Bookshelf

2. Press 7 for the Menu. It should say "Navigation and Playback, Loop Off" (or "On" if it is on)

2. Press 8. It should say "Time Jump 30 Seconds" and then "Off" or On"

3. If it is Off, press 4 or 6 to set it to On

4. Press Hash (to the right of 0) to select the setting

5. Press 8 and set "Time Jump 1 Minute" to "On" in the same way

6. If you keep pressing 8 you will see options for 5 Minutes, 10 Minutes and 30 Minutes. I have all mine set to "On".

7. Press Star (to the left of 0) to leave the menu.

inconsistencies with Victor Stream and Victor Trek

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi all,

?

I have both machines as purchased at Sight Village in July 2017, with my Trek being sent in the November of 2017.

?

I use both machines on a regular basis, namely for listening to and recording radio shows of the internet.

?

I have noticed several inconsistencies with both machines and wonder if there¡¯s a way of sorting them out.

?

With the Trek, I have a number of recordings from various radio stations and have noticed that when these recordings are stored, they go in station order and date order.

?

So, for Example, I have recordings from stations such as ALLFM, Boom Radio and Radio Six International. The stations appear in the list alphabetically and recordings made from those stations, appear in chronological order, which is a great help if I wish to find something.

?

On the Stream however, the station recordings seem to be in no particular order, nor do the recordings go chronologically, which is a pain and the only way I can find something quickly, is to press play and then trawl through my recordings that way, so once a recording starts, I can usually tell which one I want.

?

Another inconsistency with both units is that when on the Stream, I can press the number 8 whilst listening to a recording and go to time jump of one minute. This is most helpful if say I¡¯m listening to a recorded music programme and wish to skip a track I don¡¯t want to listen to. I can just press the number 6 on the keypad and move quickly through that track in minute chunks, or I can press number 4 and move backwards in minute chunks.

?

I can¡¯t seem to do this on the Trek and wondered why and if there¡¯s a way I can rectify this issue.

?

Basically, what I¡¯m trying to achieve is to have both units do exactly the same thing, I.E. both storing station and recordings in the same order and also, being able to jump in minute blocks on both units.

?

If the above can be achieved, please could someone tell me how this is done.

?

Thanks

?

Paul.

Not sure about that but I'll give it a try and get back to you.

Re: Bluetooth transmitters?

Thanks for responses to my question so far.

Sandra, can you tell me if the one you mention can charge and transmit at the same time?? Obviously the long running time is good as you may well be using something like the Stream away from home and want a long life from the battery.

Hi Adrian, Yes, I am familiar with how these little Bluetooth transmitters work and I did have one a long time ago which I gave away.

It would be good to get one that can be transmit while it is being
charged. I think some of them do not work while they are being charged.

Ok unfortunately the bluetooth transmitter receiver I got is no longer available on amazon, but if you just hang fire, I'll see what I can find for you. There are loads out there and most will work on the stream as long as they have a 3.5 mm jack plug. I use mind to listen to my stream with a small soundbar I got. I think you want to stream to other devices in the house, I don't know the bows gadgets, is it speakers or what?

Hello List,

Is anyone using a Bluetooth transmitter with the VR Stream or other device without Bluetooth? I ask as I am so pained and generally peed off with BBC local radio stream being denied to us while the olympics is still on. I can get some of the local radio streams on an internet radio in my kitchen but I would like to be able to get that radio/s output fed into a Bluetooth transmitter so I can listen on my Bose Mini Soundlink in other rooms, hence my question.

A model of Bluetooth transmitter and where you got it would be much appreciated.

I only hope the forthcoming replacement for the Trek will enable us to
play the high quality BBC local radio stream which are bypassing the
olympics blocking of lower quality local radio stream compatible with
the VR Stream and Trek so I can have my local radio back again!
