Thing is though that the Stream does handle rather more than just books.? Being able to save recordings made on the Stream and podcasts as well, searching for anything can be complicated.? At the moment I find going through saved podcasts quite complicated, though I don't really know how it could be made easier.

On the saving of radio programmes one has recorded "off-air" it would be good for me if I could search for say, Radio 4, Angel Radio which I sometimes record live, (there's no catch up facility there) and so on.

?

I suppose the soon to be 1TB of storage with the SD card being more or less permantly inserted, is going to be quite a challenge when it comes to searching for stuff.

For many blind people the Stream is relatively easy to usebut more complex use does need quite a lot of effort.? I hope that in time more sophisticated ways of finding stuff will come along.? Then again, it could be that linking to a computer and using search facilities with that might be an option.

Finally, before I forget, the hint that Bluetooth keyboard support might just be a possibility could be quite an enhancement.? Then again a competitor to the Stream available it seems only in the far east and and Australia appears to be offering control of smart phones from that device an option.? In fact I have often mused about the possibility of a keypad driven app driven by the Humanware interface, becoming available to use along with a smart phone.? If that could be implemnted then I woul look forward to using Audible and other book services with a keypad and blind-friendly navigation and with the ability to kil the phone while doing so as an option!

I do hope though that HW can pull off something with Audible to keep that going on the Stream.I would be tempted to audible if I can escape the obligation to use it on a smart phone.

To be honest, I’d always rather have folders organised by something like author/artist than by media type.? I want all books written by the same person in the same place, rather than having to remember which title is in which format.? It has never made any sense to me to do it the other way.

Like Pele in another mesage, I also find nothing to object to in the Streams file structure.

The removal of the ability to plug in external drives does seem a backward step to me.? I am guessing that the new Stream will plug into a PC or Mac and the internal memory be seen as a sort of virtual drive.

I cannot really understand the proliferation of apps to listen to radio, at least as far as simple streaming goes.? BBC Sounds is something of an exception and its rather all singing, all dancing interface is designed to get people exploring what the Beeb has to offer.? All well and good, except I already know what's on offer from our still treasured national radio provider - in spite of a rather crass approach by those pushing Sounds and indulging yet again in alienating older Listeners.? I want part of Sounds to be more like moving from an old style radio with presets in stead of the "Look at Me!" shouting interface that's Sounds.

Finally, on Podcasts, I did put the question to the Mosen at Large feature on whether the new stream would be able to "stream" podcats rather than having to download them to listen.? One thing the Blind Shell Classic does along wit the option to download a podcast.

The other down side that has always been the case with Streams, is the folder structure, it is bizarre. It should have one folder called Daisy, not $VR Anything, then the rest it should be able to read any audible media in any folder, such as MP3 files.

For me, that daft folder structure has always let the Stream down.

With other Daisy players, I won’t name them here, they are not so rigid about the folder structure, except for the Daisy folder.

Not necessary very much louder, but the sound is much better, crisper. Everyone that has tried it said it sounded much better.

And yes if you put files on an SD card or the internal memory in the proper folder ($VRText,$VRDTB, etc) it will see them!

However, we no longer support reading external sources like a USB stick. You'd have to copy the files from a stick to the internal memory or an SD card and insert it.
