Simple drats question 13
Dear Drats list friends, I am curious about how to practice Drats over an RF link, I live in Atlanta and we have two very active DStar repeaters, W4DOC and WX4GPB. Is there a specific reflector or repeater where I can find drats users to casually chat or nets to check in? I could link my local repeaters and practice some there. Thank you, KK4ODA Sent from TypeMail

D-RATS RF Access Point 13
I've been retired for a number of years now, but I don't think it's an issue starting d-rats, if you wanted it for everybody, you would probably start it in the inittabs file, or if for only one or a select number of people, I think you would put it in the .cshrc file. I may have forgotten a few things but I think I'm close. So has d-rats been compiled for the linux x86 family? Jim k6nra

30m (usually) D-RATS using HF packet 19
Hi All, I have heard from a few folks due to my QST's, but just a note to let others know. If you have HF packet capabilities, hook up your KISS TNC to your D-RATS and try me on : 10141.6 USB HF packet (if you are old school, that's 10145 LSB) I use the "standard" 1600/1800 mark and space audio frequencies. I have been copied and decoded by N3TSZ, so it works! Look for my QST's on the RATS ratflector periodically. If I change frequency, I change the QST also, but my system is on this frequency because of my HF packet forwarding partners, so it's usually there. I am in Central VA, so that covers most of the east coast of the US and into the mid-west and well into Canada also. Drop by! 73, Mitch, AB4MW

D-RATS RF Access Point 2
I have completed testing of the UHF and VHF radios and have shut them down. I am satisfied the radios are stable. My next task is to get an HF station going at my location so I can test D-RATS on HF. I am currently seeking a suitable radio. I have narrowed my frequency choice to 30 or 40 meters. I am still on the fence about using AFSK or BPSK modems. I will post here when I am ready for HF testing. Thanks, Patrick (N3TSZ)

WX QSt over DRATS 5
I was not overly fond of the WX report received from our local airport, it just did not have the information I felt someone would be looking for or need from a QST. This is what I finally came up with from my PWS, some third party software and some guidance from WXForum and N3TSZ, It hs been running for about 2 weeks now and I am quite satisfied with the result. Here is an example: [2015-08-05 07:01:00] [RATFLECTOR] KF5SMHWX: [QST] Date: Wednesday 8/5/2015 Time: 06:57:28 Temperature: 59.5 F Humidity: 52% Pressure: 30.198 Rising slowly Heat Index: 59.5 F Wind Speed: 0 Calm Wind Gust: 1 Max Wind Speed: 0 00:00 Max Wind Gust: 5 06:15 Direction: W 269 Degrees Rain rate 0.00 Rain/Hour 0.00 Rain/24Hr 0.00 Rain YTD 12.84 Sunrise: 06:21 Sunset: 20:16 Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous WX Notes: NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TODAY

How to configure DRATS for ICOM 7100 using Mac OSX via USB port
Anyone know how in D-RATS to specify the serial port of ICOM-7100 connected by USB to a Mac? The ICOM uses the Silicon Labs USB to UART bridge controller. As far as I know there is no COM1, COM2, ... on the Mac. The ICOM has a USB port, thus I am connecting between Mac computer and radio using a standard USB cable, which works for other computer-to-radio applications.

Must be missing something... 17
I thought D-Rats had something to do with DStars but it appears to be more of an email/chat/file internet based connection. I can't figure out a way to even use a DStars radio with it. What am I missing here? Dan KJ6RGX

Accessing Ratflector over RF 14
Hey, I think I'm being dumb probably and missing something really obvious, but how would one access Ratflector's, email facilities, etc over RF? For instance, while effectively useless and adding an extra step in for no reason other than experimentation, if I have my private hotspot running how can I access a communal D-RATS servers and email? Is it actually as simple as I need to be setting up the DRATS repeater/gateway element on the hotspot Pi? Is there no way to connect to a reflector the same way you do for voice? Sorry for the questions.. Thanks 73 Dave

Raspberry Pi Drats Problem 25
I had Drats up and running on my raspberry pi. I made a change in the preferences by adding a new radio. When I went back to change radio, I got an error message on Drats saying there was an error. When I chose to ignore the error the window closed and could not get back into the preferences. I created a new sd image and reloaded Drats. I got the same error message and all my settings from the first version were still there. How can I get Drats to reinstall and work? How do I get rid of the old settings? Roger, N7BU

Public Ratflector now available 4
As many have noted, the original public Ratflectors, ref.d-rats.com:9000 and ref.d-rats.com:9001 are no longer available. In an effort to make a public, open ratflector available for use, a new ratflector is now available at drats.ratflector.com:9000. This Ratflector is hosted in a commercial datacenter for reliability and sufficient bandwidth. Please feel free to use this Ratflector as a worldwide meeting place for D-RATS users. Many have noted the ratflector.com domain is available to make an easy address for any ratflector. A list of Ratflectors that are listed with ratflector.com is available at http://www.dstarinfo.com/drats.aspx. If you would like your Ratflector listed with a ratflector.com address, send an email to info@... with it's current address. Thanks to Ed, WA4YIH, for creating and maintaining the ratflector.com domain and to the Georgia D-STAR group for the hosting of the new Ratflector. There will be other positive announcements concerning D-RATS in the next few weeks so stay tuned to this group. John WB4QDX

New Ratflector
I am pleased to announce that the Philadelphia Digital Radio Association (PDRA) now has a club Ratflector. It is co-located with the K3PDR repeater. The network address is k3pdr.dstargateway.org port 9000. We are also experimenting with RF access to this Ratflector. If you are in Eastern Montgomery County or Northeast Philadelphia, you can connect via D-STAR radio on 440.9375 simplex, or with a KISS TNC or AGWPE soundcard on 145.59 simplex. It has limited range, but improvements are coming. Our club net takes place on Monday nights at 8PM ET (0100 UTC Tuesdays) on the K3PDR B and C repeaters and REF020A. Net control also takes check-ins via D-RATS. All are welcome to join in. I hope to see you there.

Ratflectors and keepalives. 5
Currently there is an issue with using d-rats on ISP's like mine that terminate idle sessions. The proper solution is a a keep-alive packet that would be sent between d-rats and the ratflector, but that the ratflector would not then relay. Is anyone working on getting this into the d-rats client and ratflector code? Regards, -John

Getting a strange error 3
Yesterday during a Linux update, something failed and the computer rebooted. I couldn't even log in after that. I ended up reinstalling the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit on my laptop. Luckily I had a copy of D-RATS Daily on a jump drive. When I reinstalled it, I get an error that it can't find "libxslt". I have compiled and installed that library, but I am still getting that error. Any ideas? Thanks David, AC7DS
