30m (usually) D-RATS using HF packet
Hi All,
I have heard from a few folks due to my QST's, but just a note to let others know.? If you have HF packet capabilities, hook up your KISS TNC to your D-RATS and try me on : 10141.6 USB HF packet (if you are old school, that's 10145 LSB) I use the "standard" 1600/1800 mark and space audio frequencies. I have been copied and decoded by N3TSZ, so it works! Look for my QST's on the RATS ratflector periodically.? If I change frequency, I change the QST also, but my system is on this frequency because of my HF packet forwarding partners, so it's usually there. I am in Central VA, so that covers most of the east coast of the US and into the mid-west and well into Canada also. Drop by! 73, Mitch, AB4MW |

Sounds interesting. Are you running BPQ32. Did you set the scan for 5 seconds. Then run D Rats outside of BPQ or fbbs? Don va7dgp On Saturday, July 4, 2015, mitchwinkle@... [d-rats_group] <d-rats_group@...> wrote:

No, I do have FBB and Uronode running there though. No scan.? I just share the port (Direwolf) with my AX.25 system.? AX.25 uses a PTY and D-RATS uses TCP/IP enabled KISS connection.-- Mitch Winkle ...How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If you want a straight packet connection., AB4MW-4 is FBB, AB4MW-7 is Uronode -- Mitch Winkle ...How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him... 1 Kings 18 ESV On Sat, Jul 4, 2015 at 9:36 PM, Mitch Winkle <mitchwinkle@...> wrote:

I may play with it using the BPQ AWG setup port 9000 and see if BPQ will beacon on through D Rats Don va7dgp? On Saturday, July 4, 2015, Mitch Winkle mitchwinkle@... [d-rats_group] <d-rats_group@...> wrote:

John is decoding me fine and responding, yet, condix have not "warmed up" yet on 30m to the point where we hold a steady conversation.? Also trying to send an email has not YET worked but it will.? Some adjustments of the timeouts and window sizes in D-RATS is in order. |
Hi Mitch,
I will be monitoring 10141.6 this evening. Here a few tips to optimize your D-RATS traffic: Go to the D-RATS preferences. Edit your TNC connection and clear the AX.25 check box. It is not needed if you are operating simplex. Go to Transfers and set warm up length to 16, and warm up time out to zero. That should help traffic flow more smoothly. Good luck, Patrick |

Very helpful!? Thanks.? We had intended the AX.25-less test for today actually, but the tuning params are greatly needed.? Chat has been fine, but sending email has been a mess.? The AX.25 overhead probably isn't helping. -- Mitch Winkle ...How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him... 1 Kings 18 ESV |
Support for TNCs is intended to make Winlink mail connections available through VHF RMS stations. The AX.25 setting was an attempt to make D-RATS usable through digipeaters. If you are not using a digipeater, it is not needed. Here is the text I send to new users with initial settings for D-RATS:
If you are new to D-RATS, set up these items first. Press [ALT+P] to open the config window. 1. Under Preferences, be sure your callsign is correct. Personalize the Sign-on, Sign-off and Ping reply messages. 2. Under GPS, Set your latitude and longitude. 3. Under Appearance, type your callsign on the Notice Reg Ex line. 4. Under Sounds, assign .wav files for each event. (Not available in the Linux version.) 5. Under Messages, enable "Automatically Forward Messages". Set Queue flush interval to 30 seconds. Set Station TTL to 600 seconds. 6. Under Transfers, enable "Remote File Transfers". Set Warmup Length to 16. Set Warmup Timeout to 0. 7. Click Save to close the config window. 8. Personalize the My Status message in the lower right corner of the Main window. Delete the text and insert your own (e.g. Myname in City, State, [Locator]). I have been looking for a way to make D-RATS usable on HF as an alternative to FLDIGI and others. Thanks for helping. |
开云体育Hey Mitch, What did you have to change to get email working in D-Rats?? Would be good for the list to have archived. --David KI6ZHD On 07/14/2015 08:29 AM,

See Patrick's previous suggestions here, but turning off the ax.25 overhead was helpful I think.? Some further tuning is in order but it is difficult because the doc is thin on the parameters and what exactly they apply to. Mitch

If anyone wants to schedule testing, join the TheRovers channel on the RAT ratflector.
If anyone is around we can arrange freq's etc.? We have VA, Nova Scotia and need MORE folks.? AB9FT in Wisconsin has been trying to monitor us as well. If needed, I can draft a How-To for using Direwolf sound modem on HF packet but it's all in the Direwolf User's Guide already.? So basically, if you have any sort of sound card interface (Signalinks work great!), you can do this in Windows or Linux.? I can help you with configs once you get Direwolf installed. Should work equally well with the original "soundmodem" program on Linux, or UZ7HO sound modem on Windows also since it now has a TCP KISS interface. |
