Accessing Ratflector over RF
Hey, I think I'm being dumb probably and missing something really obvious, but how would one access Ratflector's, email facilities, etc over RF? For instance, while effectively useless and adding an extra step in for no reason other than experimentation, if I have my private hotspot running how can I access a communal D-RATS servers and email?? Is it actually as simple as I need to be setting up the DRATS repeater/gateway element on the hotspot Pi? Is there no way to connect to a reflector the same way you do for voice? Sorry for the questions.. Thanks 73 Dave |
You need to have a D-STAR radio connected to your Raspberry ratflector via USB to serial cable.
You can then configure the Raspberry ratflector to use the radio and the internet as input/output for the ratflector.? You then can access the ratflector via RF, as an example, with another D-STAR radio connected to a laptop at a remote location. The ratflector doesn't see the RF connection as anything different from the internet connection. All the same data is sent over RF the exact same way it's sent over the internet link. You use the D-RATS software exactly the same. That is how I have our ratflector set up for our county ARES/Skywarn private ratflector. Keith kc2oon |
Hi Keith,
Thanks for the info, I will get it set up then. It is just on a personal hotspot due to local restrictions so really just for experimenting. I'm using a DVMEGA with D-Star repeater software. I got confused by the various D-PLUS Reflectors which are labeled as being for data/DRATS/etc ? When I went on there, nothing happens. Wasn't sure if there was no one on them or if I was doing something wrong... What are they for exactly? Thanks, Dave |
They are reflectors set up on line for D-RATS traffic. D-RATS traffic is all data and no voice created with software called D-RATS.?
Are you familiar with D-RATS software? The software can run on a laptop, PC and even Raspberry Pi computer. If you aren't familiar with the software it's a lot to go over.? I can give you my email if your interested in learning more. Keith kc2oon |
开云体育The reflectors that have usage listed as data are just focused on data. Just as a voice reflector, there’s no guarantee that anyone will be there. Often the concept is that they are reserved for data in the event of an emergency or test. These are often linked to repeaters and communicate over RF. But since while voice and data can coexist, they don’t coexist well. Hence a location for RF devices to gather when they need to. ? Remember, that if you connect a ratflector to either a repeater or a reflector, you will usually start generating RF. And that RF may be on the other side of the country or world. ? Ed WA4YIH ? 开云体育Doug, ? Just send me that IP or domain name of the Ratflector and I’ll add it to ratflector.com. ? If it is an IP address that can change, you probably should get something liken a dyndns account and send me the name that you have it registered as. ? It may be a few days, this is Dayton weekend, it takes a few days to recover. ? Ed ? From: d-rats_group@... [mailto:d-rats_group@...]

Hi Ed, I have gotten everything squared away and the ratflector up and running. I don't want to add it to the public list however at this time. This ratflector is going to be dedicated to the Santa Rosa County ARES group for emergency?communications functions with our EOC for now. If things change, I'll let you know and request it be added. Thank You. Doug WB4CDH |
I'm on your Ratflector now and it seems to be?operating correctly. I sent you a message there. I'm accessing via DRATS on a Raspberry Pi.
Here in Ocean County we also have a Ratflector for our ARES/RACES/Skywarn. I have the Drats repeater server running on a Raspberry Pi with an Icom 880H connected to the Raspberry via Serial/USB converter. ?We can tie it into our Dstar repeater on demand by activating the radio port in the Drats repeater software. 开云体育Hello Dave, Get your Raspberry Pi running and then follow the D-RATS documentation on Dan's website.? It's actually quite strait forward.? If you have specific questions or issues, feel free to post them here! --David KI6ZHD On 09/19/2015 10:21 AM, hubbell@...

开云体育Take in the files section of this group. There is a folder named RASPBERRY PI, and in that folder is a file named "HOWTO-Run-DRATS-on-Raspberry-PI.txt". It should get you started.? Mike, N0SO On Sep 19, 2015, at 12:21 PM, hubbell@... [d-rats_group] <d-rats_group@...> wrote:
