Must be missing something...
You will need to have a cable such as the RTsystems RTSO5 plugged into the data port, and then setup a comport in drats with the cables com port information under the serial port header:
File>preferences>Radio>add a Serial port>name whatever you like>serial port com# for cable>Baud Rate 9600>ADD>Save> click check in enabled box, sniff and raw off. Picture your D-STAR radio as a modem. It takes serial data from your computer and conditions it to be transmitted and received. A network connection does the same thing. That said, anything you can do over the internet connection, you can also do with radios. Those include: Real time chat, e-mail style messaging and file transfers. A mapping function is also included. Look in the files section of this group for a manual and it's addendum.
Good luck and 73. |

开云体育Go to the Files section and download the “Getting Started With D-RATS” document.? It tells how to setup for Internet or radio access.? D-RATS is a very full featured program that sends messages, file transfer, chat and position reporting.? It has many applications and is best suited for EmComm situations, but can be used for other purposes. Its versatility is that it can operate without a radio through the Internet or over a radio from radio to radio, through a repeater, or across linked repeaters. ? John WB4QDX ? From: d-rats_group@... You can use D-RATS with a radio only and no internet connection (As long as someone in range has the same system up and running)

I'll explain very basically how our ARES group uses it. I have a DRATS ratflector (repeater) working on a Raspberry Pi computer always with battery backup as does my internet modem at my QTH. I have an Icom 880H with a serial cable cable connected to the data jack on the radio. I have a serial to USB converter to connect the serial cable to the Raspberry Pi computer running the ratflector/repeater. In the settings on the DRATS repeater softwrae, you need to enable the radio port to send data. My Icom 880H is on our DSTAR repeater frequency. I ONLY enable the radio port when we need to use the DRATS over the repeater to not clog up the machine. Everyone in our ARES group has the IP address to the DRATS Ratflector.? Everyone in our group has the settings in their Drats software to share the connection. Sharing the connection means if only one person in the group has internet access, everyone on the ratflector has basic internet connection for emails and emergency messages.? Anyone without internet connection can access the the DRATS ratflector over the repeater to the Icom880H at my shack connected to the ratflector and become part of the network. This means that in an emergency, if everyone in our area lost email and internet for emergency use, someone could go mobile with a Dstar radio and laptop, find a hot spot, connect to the repeater, and give everyone on our network internet email and messaging capability (Not surfing, too slow). Even without internet, everything can be sent RF only. It's a great tool for aiding our EOC and served agencies in emergencies. Cons for RF only? Everyone needs a DSTAR radio, cables and a computer. Hope that clears things up a bit. Any questions don't be afraid to email me directly at my call at yahoo dot com? Keith KC2OON From: d-rats_group@... [mailto:d-rats_group@...]

Thanks everybody...I now have a clearer picture of what DRats is capable of. ?My primary interest is non-internet based connectivity for EMCOM. ?There is no DSTAR repeater anywhere near me, so I suspect this is going to be a dead-end project, ?I doubt anybody in the my area has DSTAR capability.
I appreciate all the responses. Dan KJ6RGX |

开云体育Get a KISS mode TNC and you can do it via packet for less than half the cost of a DStar HT.? Chances are you already have a laptop and mobile VHF radio, so all you need is the modem and cables. Not true actually.?
It works well simplex as well. When everyone in your group has the settings correct (Automatically forward messages in the messages tab in the config), it will relay the messages through the connected stations in the network to get to the destination station.? Keith kc2oon
