Re: D-Rats repository has a new home
David Ackrill
I tried to sign up, but my callsign was 'already in use', so I tried logging in but it said it wasn't recognising my email address... I'll see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I don't have a great history at figuring out how to navigate GitHub.

D-Rats repository has a new home
Hello All,
I have created the "ham-radio-software" GitHub organization and Maurizio has moved the official D-Rats repository to this organization. This will make it easier for multiple volunteers to work on D-Rats and related software. If you have a GitHub fork from Maurizio's repository, you will see that it now is directed to the Ham Radio Software GitHub organization. The 0.3 version (Python 2) has been put in its own branch. Maurizio and I are not planning any more work on that branch. The master branch is now Python 3 only. In the future we may have an alpha release for testing. There is still a lot of work that can be done to improve D-Rats. There are plenty of minor bugs to fix some of which can be a learning experience. We only have Italian translations right now. We could probably use help with site management and curating the Wiki to help keep it up to date and relevant. To join the ham-radio-software project as a contributor, just send me offline your GitHub username. 73, -John, wb8tyw |
Re: Local Mesh Usage > Hostname - Repeater
Hi Troy:
Will post as soon as I can verify connections from outside my home network are possible.? Waiting for some fellow Ham Operator within the AREDN Mesh in Puerto Rico.? But I can advance the following: 1-? You need a working AREDN Mesh node? 2-? You need a D-Rats repeater running and connected to the same Netgear (or equivalent) switch where AREDN node is connected.?? 3-? I installed HAMPI 2.0 on raspberry pi4 -- from there is the D-Rats repeater running. 4-? Although obvious but worth stating > Hostname at raspberry pi must be the same as you define in Preferences Radio Network.? You just put the name (No internet TLD required) also you can use the IP of the raspberry pi or machine running D-Rats repeater.? 5-? To start the D-Rats repeater you use the command $ python d-rats_repeater -C I am new to D-Rats, so learning.? Will try to keep posted.?? 73' Edfel KP4AJ |

Re: How to setup and start D-Rats repeater raspberry
go to 58B on Tuesday evenings and the "after net" should be able to help you.? I have my Raspberry Pi 3B working for d-rats but not setting up the things you need to know. I am guessing you are on eastern time and that net would be Alabama D-Star Net?@ 9:30 Eastern time? with the After Net following it. It is a collaborative net and they can handle almost anything.? Local Mesh Usage > Hostname - Repeater
Hi:
This setup for a D-Rats repeater working within AREDN mesh.? IP seems to connect under Preferences > Radio BUT If I try a non TLD domain like COA, Distribution without (.com, .org or regular extensions) connection is not possible.? Any work-around or idea for this specific use?? ?I have already setup and working (within AREDN local mesh) Linux applications like MatterMost, TeamTalk using a single word hostname (no extension). Will appreciate any tip! 73' Edfel KP4AJ |

Hi Again: Bingo!!? Well now listening 9000 and was able to connect from another machine (Windows).? The proper way to invoke was: python d-rats_repeater.py -C Anyway, will appreciate reference to repeater info and commands.?? 73' Edfel KP4AJ On Sun, Sep 4, 2022 at 9:26 AM Edfel Rivera via <edfeljose=gmail.com@groups.io> wrote: Hi All: |

Hi: Just want to share I have tried both? raspberry pi 3b and raspberry 4b.? Also tried various versions of HAMPI.? Last one tested 1.1 but netstat -lptn shows no listening.? I am sure there must be a config issue. Unfortunately no much information on the Internet about how to setup?D-Rats repeater (linus or raspberry).? Any link or pointer will be highly?appreciated.? Will keep looking.? 73' Edfel KP4AJ On Sun, Sep 4, 2022 at 9:26 AM Edfel Rivera via <edfeljose=gmail.com@groups.io> wrote: Hi All: |
How to setup and start D-Rats repeater raspberry
Hi All:
New to D-Rats here. I installed a HAMPI 3.01 image into a raspberry PI 4. I have setup the D-rats client into Windows 10 no problem so far. My main interest is to run a Repeater from Raspberry Pi 4.? But I am lost how to start the repeater.? Have some question: 1-? Repeater and client have to be running at same time. I mean at the pi4. 2-? Which files are specific for repeater configuration My interest is to setup D-Rats to work within ARDEN mesh mostly EMCOMM.? ?? Any other tip will be highly appreciated.? I run Ubuntu and have some experience with raspberry.?? 73' Edfel KP4AJ |
Re: Sending email from d-rats
For Winlink emails, you need a Winlink account. It's the only way to get a password that you will put in the Message parameters.
For regular emails I tried three email servers. Yahoo, Google, and my local Freenet. Nothing works. I suspect that the TLS/SSL parameters need to be upgraded by the developers. Guy VE3QC in d--rats. |
Re: Sending email from d-rats
You may need to check which outgoing mail service you are using.? Google started flagging email connections from D-Rats as an unsecure email client and won't accept messages unless you went in and turned the feature off in your Google account.? Now they just don't care and keep resetting it to block all traffic coming from D-Rats into a gmail.com account.? I switched over to an outlook mail account to try to correct the issue.
Winlink only seems to work if you have a telnet (Internet) connection on your computer.? Make sure your settings and password to Winlink are set correctly. Glen - KG5CEN |
Re: Sending email from d-rats
John, I have been working through similar issues, but found this document very useful and now have D-RATS talking back and forth to the CMS of Winlink with no issues. I am still working on using the SMTP/POP capability as I would like to "connect" with the local RMS Relay (that I run in-house) for times when the internet goes down. But to use when working directly to the Winlink CMS, this document will help a great deal. 73, Mike Crabtree - VA3MCT On Fri, 2 Sept 2022 at 11:33, John Garko <wa4kwk@...> wrote:

Re: Winlink e-mail from my mobile through my base station?
Jack and all, When you refer to the "server side of Winlink" are you suggesting that RMS Packet or one of the other components could pick up the messages and deal with them appropriately? Our club bought into D-STAR several years?ago for EmCOmm purposes and I am heavily?into using Winlink for our club and would love to be able to bring in the digital side of D-STAR thru D-RATS and into Winlink. I have tried many of the configurations within D-RATS, but struggled to get it working properly. I do run a local Winlink RMS system running RMS Packet and RMS Relay, but cannot yet understand how to set up D-RATS to "talk" to that system. I know that on the?Winlink website they also talk about D-STAR as one of the transports of?data,?but I?never see any configuration info. Has anyone done this successfully? This would mean my mobile/portable/field operators running D-RATS could use the D-STAR radios we spent lots of money on and still link into Winlink systems. We also have a D-STAR repeater which would get so much more use if I could get this working. 73, Mike Crabtree - VA3MCT On Tue, 30 Aug 2022 at 15:37, Jack Spitznagel (KD4IZ) <kd4iz@...> wrote:

Thanks all, I've managed to connect to a couple of the ratflectors, and downloaded the list of D-Star and Rats nets, although some of them are well into the early hours of the morning over here. KA5MYE sent me an email through D-Rats and I've pinged one station as well. I saw the chat message from Jack (KD4IZ) as well. Cheers - Dave (G0DJA) |
