10 Room Multi Wedding Venue Playlist Management Ideas
Ok. I have a client who is trying to control wedding music from multiple touch panels and needs a simple way to manage playlists. Ten Rooms, ten touch panels. You can have ten weddings going on at the same time, three weddings a night, so on any given night you can have 30 weddings. Say, 5 songs per wedding, that¡¯s 30 different playlists, 150 songs total (I¡¯m simplifying). Seven days a week. The kicker is that the playlists will all be set up weeks or months in advance, so we are managing hundreds, possibly thousands of playlists. My first thought was either NAX or Autonomic, but the playlist management isn¡¯t going to cut it. Also, NAX is out because you can¡¯t use locally stored files, only the streaming services. Autonomic you can use local files. For simplicity, let¡¯s say we go with the Media Player object on a 70 series panel controlling Spotify streaming (or whatever). Using this method, It doesn¡¯t take long for playlist management to get out of control. For example. Client phone call: ¡°Hello, this is [CLIENT NAME] and we are getting married on [DATE] at [TIME] in [ROOM NAME] and we would like to walk down the isle to [SONG]. Multiply that by a thousand. The solution I am thinking about is programing the panels in HTML, and embedding the meta data and song files from a database or a Google Sheet. A simple website would be used to manage all playlists. Like this: http://www.karaokehustler.com/weddings/ This would be ideal, because whomever is taking the clients requests can just update the database from a webpage, from anywhere, and even search by date/room#/client name. Each touch panel would sort the db by date and room name and display the relevant songs. The problem? This would involve dragging and dropping actual files into a hierarchy, which I personally haven¡¯t done since Limewire was a thing. So the embed not only has to have the ability to point to a real file, but it would more often need to point to some kind of ID or song name on one of the streaming services. Let¡¯s just say that I must have missed that chapter in my copy of Javascript for Dummies. Yes, the easiest way to do this would be via a laptop in each room, which they don¡¯t want. The safest way to do this is to make each couple bring their own music, which they don¡¯t want. I¡¯m not even sure a database is the best approach, so I¡¯m open to ideas. I also haven¡¯t quoted a price, so DM me and I¡¯m happy to partner with one of you if you have a solution I can¡¯t see. Sorry for the long read, and thanks everybody!

Cresnet to Ethernet adaptor

I have an old project with a bunch of CT1000 panels. No realistic way to add category cable. I recall a device that was marketed to use cresnet cabling for POE. Am I dreaming? Has anyone used such a device?

Horizon 2 simultaneous buttons

Sorry I don't have one set up to test; with a Horizon 2 dimmer, will the control system see when two buttons are pressed simultaneously? I'm considering using one button as a modifier to get an additional function from a rocker. -jason

Screen Innovations / TROY Driver Crashing Home App
3
Description System Type: Crestron Home Issue Type: Compatibility / App Crash Driver/Device Involved: SI Troy Driver / Screen Innovations Shades / Troy Gateway We have a client with Screen Innovations (SI) motorized shades installed throughout their home. The shades are integrated into their Crestron Home system using the Troy Gateway and the official SI Troy driver. The system functions correctly on Apple devices¡ªspecifically, Crestron touch panels, iPads, and iPhones¡ªwithout any issues. However, when accessing the shades through Android devices, the Crestron Home app encounters a critical error. When attempting to open the shade control tile (created by the SI Troy driver) to adjust an individual shade, the app freezes and becomes unresponsive. The user must force close and restart the app to regain functionality. This issue has been consistently reproduced on multiple Android devices, including a brand new phone purchased by the client and a technician's personal Android device. Steps Taken: Verified proper installation and configuration of the Troy Gateway and SI Troy driver. Tested functionality on iOS devices ¨C working as expected. Reproduced the issue on multiple Android devices. Confirmed app and OS are updated to the latest versions.

NVX Philosophical Network Config Pondering
6
I¡¯ve been in the process of gathering NVX to replace DM in my home system and I¡¯m to the tipping point where I¡¯m one FedEx delivery away from having ¡°enough¡± that I can pull out DM and survive without a few sources and a few destinations. Currently the ¡°AV Closet¡± has a couple fairly old Cisco 12-port 10/100/1000 fanless switches uplinked to my core. Obviously that won¡¯t support NVX well. The existing traffic on the switches is pretty light ¨C processor <> processor, processor <> touchpanel (via core), Chromecast, Apple TV, etc. The AV Closet will (eventually) have 2 DMF-CI8s and possibly a loose decoder or two ¨C worst case though is 16 encode and at 750MB that¡¯s about 12Gb/s (or 16 Gb/s if we assume full line rate from every encoder). For the most part I¡¯m planning on hanging the decoders in rooms off the existing DM CAT however there are a few places where feeding them from the core makes more sense (and currently I¡¯m doing weird DM cross-connects to make it work). My current plan is to replace both of the current switches with a Cisco 3850 12X48U (12x10G ports and 36 1G ports) and to LAG some number of the 10G ports back to the core. My internal debate that I¡¯m curious about the collective thoughts: Cisco¡¯s implementation of LAG is only optimal with an even pair of links in the group. 2x10G would give me 20G theoretical with 4G of headroom which seems like it should be plenty considering everything else is running in a 2G aggregate link and not even hitting 1% utilization¡ but should I just double than to 4x10G (40G aggregate) since I have the cable path and ports available and I¡¯m suspicious that now that ¡°DM jacks¡± and ¡°LAN jacks¡± will be interchangeable traffic from things in the field may wind up hitting this switch on the way to the core? What are the feelings about throw NVX on my existing ¡°Crestron/IoT¡± VLAN (with the existing IGMP querier on the Core) or create a new AVoIP VLAN with the querier running on the ¡°AV¡± switch? I¡¯m torn because keeping it on the core seems like the most ¡°by the book¡± answer and with 20 or 40g between the switches shouldn¡¯t have any traffic/blocking concerns but on the other hand if virtually all of the encoders live on the AV switch it seems kind of stupid to forward that traffic to the core just for the sake of having all of the IGMP queriers live in the same place. (I¡¯m also considering playing with Layer 3 multicast routing which is heretofore something I¡¯ve never even dipped my toe in the water on) Thoughts? I don¡¯t think there is a single ¡°right answer¡± to either question but am curious about thoughts and approaches from the community Lincoln -- Lincoln King-Cliby Commercial Market Director Sr. Systems Architect | Crestron Certified Master Programmer (Diamond) ControlWorks Consulting, LLC Direct: (+1)440.771.4807 | Cleveland: (+1)440.449.1100 | Boston: (+1)508.695.0188 | DC: (+1)202.381.9070 | London: (+44) (0)20 4520 4600 Crestron Services Provider | Biamp Authorized Independent Programmers | Extron Qualified Independent Programmer

Autonomic MMS 3.2.14: Error: Instance match for 'Player_A' not found. (1)\x0D\x0A

Has anyone had this error with a 2-Series and Autonomic MMS-3e using latest non-Smart Graphics 3.2.14 module? Also "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.\x0D\x0A" Obviously none of the functions are working, getting no feedback, etc. The above errors are from SIMPL Debugger responses from MMS-3e when trying to choose music, etc.

Has anybody worked with Epiphan's Pearl2 rest API
3
Hello, I was wondering if anybody has worked with a pearl2 and used a TCP/IP client symbol with a SIO to send HTTP PUT commands to it to change outputs. I'm sure a Simpl sharp module is the way to go, but I lack the knowledge. Looks like it can be done without simpl# ,but I can't get the syntax right. I figured out the syntax for just doing it through windows command prompt, but anything I try through debugger and a SIO tells me to piss off basically. They have a module for it in application market, but it doesn't do a couple of things I would like it to. Thanks, Mike

Topics in Home Automation - New Article in Residential Tech Today
Smart locks offer homeowners enhanced security, convenience, remote access to remotely let people into their home, and a host of other features. This is why they are a very popular addition to a smart home. My latest article is on the Alfred DB2S Smart Lock, a high quality smart lock with a wide range of features. You can find the article here: https://restechtoday.com/alfred-db2s-smart-lock-review/ For those interested in earlier articles that I've written, you can find those here: https://restechtoday.com/author/jaybasen/ For these interested in even earlier content that I wrote, you can find it all here though older content has formatting issues due to a transfer from blogspot to wordpress. https://topicsinhomeautomation.wordpress.com/ Thanks

Construct and Masters 2025
18
Hi All, I heard that it was announced that all new panels(UIs?) will only support HTML5/Construct. This of course pushes the deprecation of VTPro closer, which I expect of course. I'm assuming that they'll have to keep it around to support the TSR and GO app, which kinda sux to have two platforms to support all the UI devices - Anyone heard plans for this issue?? Also, they're supposed to be getting the MPO ported over to Construct by the end of the year for us resi guys... Can anyone illuminate more details on what they've heard about this? My concerns: - Construct needs to be solid - This forum has detailed much of the suffering over the last 2.5+ years. How are things going? Any light that we would be able to deliver real, client systems with it now/anytime soon? - We need the MPO - Ideally we need to have Construct support all the UI types TIA!

Rx to analog?

Hey guys, Basic topic for most of you, but how would you suggest I get the time elapsed/remaining Rx from my Denon DN-500BD MKII Blu Ray into an analog join displaying time format? I don't know SIMPL+, and guess that's probably the likely route, but any help is greatly appreciated. Dan

Directv Control mystery + 3Path IR file - takeover job
3
It looks like I'm going to reprogram a restaurant/bar system with 20 sources and 57 TVs all because some of the source satellite boxes have been changed and they need updated IR drivers but the original programmer has supposedly lost the code - sigh. The system uses the Just Add Power AV over IP stuff I'm familiar with. But I did notice on my visit this morning that there are 8 of the small Directv boxes which only have satellite, HDMI out and power connected but these are all being controlled...somehow. I didn't find any DTV stuff on a network scan and nothing in the IP table. I should have also done a WHO command but forgot to in case there was any direct socket stuff going on that could explain it. But weirdly when I was connected looking at the files on the Pro3 hoping in vain to find the source code .zip file, I did see a .dll called something like DirectvShef. I know Shef refers to the old serial command set you could send through the USB. So really curious how they are achieving control. I thought it might have been CEC control from the Just Add Power encoders, but it doesn't look like they can do that. Any suggestions gratefully received. 9 Dish boxes were removed and in their place are now something called Roberts 3Path boxes. These are for sport content only. I am looking for an IR driver in case anyone has one. On site the remotes there are all bluetooth and paired to each individual box, but the boxes do have IR windows and an IR remote exists, but they don't have one on site. Thx in advance OP

TSR Performance issues
10
I have a site that is reporting TSR issues, pages/suppages slow to populate or not populating, sluggishness, etc. I was just told by my network guy that: "Crestron has identified an issue with the latest version of the firmware on the TSR-310's. It's not affecting all remotes, but it depends on the chipset you have. They recommend rolling back to one version previous to get it working properly again. " Currently using 'tsr-310_3.000.0010.puf' - Anyone heard about this and know if we're supposed to roll back to the .0186 version? Also, how would one determine the chipset used, etc. etc. And Crestron - Any possibility that we could have better communications??????

Shared Gateway
2
So I just tried to add a third IP table entry to my CEN-GWEXER thru TBx/System Info and found that It wouldn't let me. This begs the question: - How many entries are actually allowed? - How would a mere mortal find out info like that? I'm also wondering the same about the new CEN-GW1... Any ideas? I'm going to try adding thru console...

Lutron QSX/RA3/Leap Protocol and VLANs
2
I was interested/concerned about the issue of LEAP not being able to cross VLANs brought up in a different thread, so I thought it would be better to start a new one vs fork the other thread... As we have just revamped our network scheme to be multi-VLAN, I'm concerned about this issue. We don't generally deal with Lutron but we always get take-overs with them so we have to be agile... What are others' experiences with using QSX/Ra3 and the LEAP protocol with VLANs - specifically, Crestron on VLAN 1 and Lutron on VLAN 2 for example. I personally am only interested in Crestron custom apps since we don't use HOME... It's hard for me to imagine that with a pro network and someone who knows how to configure it that this would be a problem, but...you know...:)
