Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
I knew what the jbudz was saying, I'm betting most of the folks on this forum understood exactly what he meant. And its not just Kleenex and Xerox either, this is a very common cultural inference that

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
My point is a dos prompt is substantially different from the windows prompt in a way not at all analogous to Kleenex vs Puffs. A Band-aid is a kind of adhesive bandage. DOS is not a kind of shell -

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
The point is "DOS Prompt" is commonly used these days as the general name just like Xerox or Kleenex by lots of people. Just about every developer I know still calls it the DOS Prompt and everyone

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
Well, sorry for the pedantry, but I know someone who tends to constantly use the wrong name for things (not a generic descriptor like Xerox or Kleenex). It gets confusing and we're really in an

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
Ugh. I don't think I'm all that old - I was just being a bit facetious. And I realize it's not DOS anymore. Nor is the Xerox machine at the office actually made by Xerox :).

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
I don't think you need to be old to remember it. The DOS prompt was there for a while when I started using computers. But it's not DOS anymore.

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
Yeah, it's pretty common for us old timers to refer to the Command Prompt in the new OS's as a DOS Prompt. Geoff <chris.niles.crestron@...>wrote:

DOS prompt == Windows Command Prompt Sometimes I slip and call it that too. Chris wrote:

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
In addition to what Neil said, DOS doesn't ship with windows anymore, and almost nothing with computers "just works".

Re: apple airplay receiver?
I do this in my house and it works great - just plug it into my network switch. You have to use the Airport Utility to tell the unit to disable the wireless. I have an 802.11g model, you can pick one

I've never done it, but it feels bad and I think it's not what DM is designed for and the general boot up/configure times it seems like a bad idea and may exacerbate performance issues [you couldn't

Re: CHV-TSTATRF Issues
Michael, I just ran into this same issue on a old project that was working. I assume that it is firmware or database version that is the problem. Did you find a solution to this issue? Let me know.

Re: What's the Deal With Hostnames?
DOS....? It mostly has to do with there being a valid DNS/gateway service on the subnet where your equipment resides. There has to be something to translate the hostname into an actual IP address. If
