DirecTV HR21-700 Double Press problem

topher1200s

Has anyone run into the issue of getting a double press on the new
DirecTV HR21-700 units. I am using the DirecTV DSS1 [Master] ir file
located in the files section. It worked great with the H20 and HR20
units and was working fine with the H21 units. I am trying to
remember if I have installed any of the HR21 reciently that have
worked. Wondering if it could be a manufacturer thing or not.

Anyway, if anyone has an ir file that works with the HR21-700 I would
apprieciat it.

Re: slow performance DirecTV HR21 RS232 - another question

I can't answer the speed question, but at least as of a few months ago
all of the "approved" USB adaptors listed in the DirecTV document are
essentially private-label versions of the identical product (same USB
vendor ID, etc.) so I would assume that the difference is "works" (as in
the DTV firmware knows how to communicate with those adaptors) and
"doesn't work" (as in the DTV firmware goes "What the heck is this thing
plugged into my USB port?")

How slow is slow? [is it faster than a Runco processor?]

I have a client that hates emitters on the front of his stuff (original
setup done by another company), and I would like to try the serial
control.
His DirecTivo just got replaced by a nice shiny piano black unit
(HR21-700?). DirecTV came out and replaced his boxes with these new
ones so
he can receive a bunch more HiDef channels.

Is there a best USB-Serial adapter to use?

Do different adapters cause speed differences?

TIA

The GE Caddx NX8-V2 does not do serial communication. You will need to upgrade to the NX8-E. Call the security guy now. :)

The installers didn't connect pins 7 and 8. Although everything
works fine with only 2, 3, and 5 on the other model plasmas there,
I'll have them try it with extra pins Monday.

Geoffrey,

I think you hit the nail on the head!
Looking at the doc, I see that the pinouts for the two are
different. I will make a x-over cable at work tomorrow and let you
know if it works or not.

Thanks again

My guess is that you have the serial port on the ST-CP configured
to the
wrong baud rate (or other parameters) OR that the serial cable
you're using
to connect the ST-CP to the HomeVision is wired incorrectly.

Take HomeVision out of the equation - get the ST-CP sending
strings to
Terminal Emulator (set the same way it was when you used it to
connect to
HomeVision). Once you have that working, you should be able to
connect that
cable to your HomeVision controller and get the results you're
looking for.

Subject: [Crestron] Help with Homevision

I can't seem to figure this one out. I am trying to use HV and an
old ST-CP to control x-10 lights in a particular room. I created a
simple SIO that maps back to a homevision controller with the ASCII
string 'lights' in str1 which is tied directly to the touchpanel.
So in theory when the user pressed the hv_light button it sends a
string through the serial into the home vision. The home vision
has
been configured to accept any text over 1 character (testing
purposes). When the button is pressed, nothing happens. It works
within the terminal emulator, but not connected to the st-cp.
There
was a post by Geoffrey Reynolds detailing how to do this (see
below)
The homevision part works just fine but the Crestron piece is
another question. It appears to be sending hex through the serial
and not ASCII. If anyone has had any experience in setting up
Crestron alongside Homevision, please detail your exact steps (i.e.
which mods were used if any, which analog or digital symbols,
strings that were used, if you had to convert using HEX, which baud
rate is used on the serial driver, etc. In other words, any
information that you can give me that would make my life easier.
TIA

In HomeVision:

From the main menu, select Objects/Events -> Serial Data Input ->
Port1
(substitute Port2, Port3, etc. as appropriate for your situation)

This will give you a window where you can program HomeVision to
respond to
events on a serial port.

Next, configure the logic that will handle serial events by, for
example,
setting up a series of If - Then - End If statements. Start by
clicking the
If Then button in the ACTIONS toolbar. Next, the ACTIONS toolbar
switches
to the CONDITIONS toolbar. Now, select the SERIAL button. I've
found
the
most useful condition to be "Serial input characters # through #
are
:'____' - this lets you listen for a specific string to come from
the
Crestron controller. Now enter the string you want and press OK.
Now
click
on End If and the toolbar switches back to ACTIONS. Click X10 and
choose
the X10 action you want to perform. That's all you need to do on
the
HomeVision side. It sounds a bit clunky (and is), but is pretty
easy
to use
and will work very reliably once you have it programmed.

Now just program your Crestron program to send the appropriate
strings
terminated with \n. HomeVision has default support for it's OSD
remote
control commands, so some strings are reserved:

,J0\n = 0
,J1\n = 1
...
,J9\n = 9
,JA\n = Enter
,JB\n = Channel Up
,JC\n = Channel Down
,JD\n = Volume Up
,JE\n = Volume Down
,JF\n = Cancel

AADS - set max volume

hi groups,
i want to limit max volume in AADS. i had tried to assign analog value
in "set_maximum_vol" in adagio room control and setup. but nothing
happen, user still can set volume higher then the value i assign.
is there any way to do this??

thanks

Re: Help with Homevision

What pins from the RJ-11 are connected to pins 2, 3, and 5 on the HomeVision
controller? I don't have the ST-CP manual handy at the moment, so I don't
remember the pinouts, but keep in mind that you may or may not need a
crossover cable between the Crestron controller and the HomeVision
controller.

Here are a couple of snapshots of relevant pieces of my Simpl Windows
program:

This shows the SerialIO symbol that sends the various commands to
HomeVision:

This shows the configuration of the serial port that is connected to
HomeVision:

Given what you've described so far, my money is on the cable you're using
between the ST-CP and the HomeVision controller being mis-wired.

Geoffery,

Thank you for your input. I have tried every possible baud rate
with no success. I've set the HV controller and serial driver to
19200, 38400, 9600, 4800, 2400, 1200. Each time I am able to send
commands to Viewport from the TP which does appear in plain ASCII
(i.e, ,X0003\n). I am also able to send X10 commands directly from
my PC to the HV via com1 with success. When I send commands from my
PC the x-10 LED blinks on the HV. When I hit the trigger button on
the TP, the LED does not activate. According to the doc, the pinout
for the HV is 2,3 and 5 which is what I have. I am also using the
Crestron 6-pin RJ-11 coming from the ST-CP's COM A port. What are
your controller to Homevision settings? I'd be delighted to take a
peek at your .smw file (if it's not too personal). Any ideas would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have you try to send the command directly with viewport of via telnet
to confirm you're able to control it.

In the past a have a problem with a NEC Plasma who didn't response to
a specific command and i find the command sent was only for a
specific ID.

Good Luck

Via RS-232 (9600, 8, O, 1), it only responds to the Power On
command.
Power Off doesn't work, and neither do any of the Input or Aspect
commands. I also don't get any feedback responses, not even a
nack.
FYI, I'm using the NEC 42MP1 Plasma Screen Basic Controls.umc from
Crestron's website.

I've confirmed with NEC's tech support that it uses the same
protocol
as the 42 and 50 inch versions, of which there are several on the
jobsite. If I take a 42", and plug the same serial cable into it,
it
works perfectly. But unplug the 42, and plug the 60 back in, and
nothing.

Any ideas would be appreciated...

Thanks, in advance!

Re: TPMC-4x Touchpanels

We also have had connections issues with these units and have found that the Linksys
WAP54G along with the configuration file from Crestron works pretty well.? Yes they still
fall offline occasionally, but nothing like they did when we use the Cisco or Netgear AP's.
It is not a perferct remote and hopefully a new OS will improve it , but?we have had good
results by using the Linksys product.? We also dedicate one WAP per remote and setup
the WEP encryption so no one can use it as an internet access point.? We then have to
setup another wireless network for the Internet and we will use Cisco products for that.
It is alot of networking work but is easier since we found a Cisco certified IT shop in our
area.

same room. It seems that nothing works and everytime the TPMC-4x
remote
sits for any length of time it losses connection to the processor
and I
have to reboot it to get it to connect again. Does anyone else have
this issue with these panels?

Re: Napco Gemini X225 Question

Yes, there's a configurable parameter in the panel's setup options.
The security contractor should be familiar with it, but if not, have
them call Napco's tech support...

In the Crestron module I have there is no Arm away mode, just arm
area 1-8, disarm area 1-8. Is there another module out there ??

Re: Serial or IP controlable camera DVRS

I've used Speco and ARM electronics. Both retail depending in HD size
for 2k or less.
