Re: DMPS3-4K-350 disable build in AM?

Did you guys buy the DMPS 350 with the AM license?? I don't know the answer to your question about turning it off and script to disable its HDCP.??

We bought ours with the AM license so I am just curious.?

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

I ran into the SirusXM issue with Sonos on a recent commercial project.? The only solid SirusXM solution for commercial applications, are the streaming players provided by SiriusXM, but they are not controllable (as far as I know).

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

Addition to the Sonos Cons:

Sonos is actually a good system for singles.
All activities are shared among the whole system, mixing up favourites, last played, etc. of all household members...

Sonos Con:

It's effectively impossible to get it to play an XM stream indefinitely, as there is no way to send it a direct command to goto channel 36.
As was mentioned before, if you have multiple XM accounts for a corporate campus, the favorites are useless, as they are shared across the whole system.
You can set the 'alarm' to trigger every 4 hours, which will you allow recall a specific XM channel, but if there is any kind of network hiccup at the exact time of the alarm. the Sonos
will be unable to lock onto the stream and you'll get an audible chime coming out of all of your dist audio speakers.? Now someone onsite has to turn it off or it will keep going and going and goi.....

Autonomic Pro:

You have the ability to both monitor play status accurately and send the MMSProtocol commands that allow for direct reference of basically everything.
If the stream ever stops, you can just monitor the Stop Fb and trigger a terminate stream, reacquire stream sequence.

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

We have the same issue. Ours seem to be preamp failures as the sound quality continues to degrade over time until its really bad.
I'll look over the Bluesound. Any ideas which vendors have it?

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

Excuse the extended commentary¡

I¡¯ve dealt with music server integration since the mid-90¡¯s, starting with Arrakis (anyone remember that one??), and one thing I can say today is that digital music integration has become a total nightmare any way you slice it. For various reasons IMO, I see that solutions are either klunky, unintuitive, confusing, not consistent, or unreliable ¨C often some/all of the above!

That said, we are charged with somehow making things work as best as possible. Here¡¯s my take on the state of the art¡ There are only 2 serious players to integrate with (forgive me if I¡¯ve missed one):

Sonos and Autonomic.

No clear winner, each has its Good and Bad ¨C your choice has as much to do with your clients¡¯ needs and their technical capabilities, as it does with business/integration issues. I think these are the only good choices, as they are the only players that seem to support pretty much all the major services that 99% of our clients want and USE!

Any device that doesn¡¯t support Pandora is a non-starter, ex: Lode, BlueSound and Crestron NSP1¡

?

Both platforms integrate with ease:

__Using the Media Player Object (for better or worse!) and SMW Device/Logic symbols, one can get a system integrated and running in minutes, with multiple players ¨C very scalable.

__Both support streaming services, and locally stored music on an HDD

__Both provide a clean, dynamic player transport interface with metadata

__Both operate as an AirPay Client FWIW (Sonos supports AirPlay2)

__Both allow Presets/Favorites to aggregate from any service ¨C i.e. you can have a Pandora Channel, Spotify Playlist, Christmas Playlist that is sourced from a local HDD of music, all in one list.

__Both are profitable (30+ points)

__CON: Both have had ¡®breaking firmware¡¯ issues over time ¨C Welcome to the Digital Age!

?

Here¡¯s some of my Pros/Cons for each with Crestron Integration:

SONOS

Pros:

__Great for ¡®Simple¡¯ Users, utilizing a ¡®Radio Button¡¯ style interface to select presets (Sonos Favorites)

__One button press, and you¡¯re listening to music

__Supports Apple Music and AirPlay2

__¡¯Power¡¯ users can directly launch into the Sonos App (on TSW and Mobile) to select deep tracks, etc. or to add/change Sonos favorites. This is good because it shields the complexity from the daily ¡®Simple¡¯ user who just wants to listen to their favorite station.

__Hardware has generally been very reliable

Cons:

__The ¡®Sonos System¡¯ can not be managed remotely via VPN, so you cannot do set up, config and/or adjustment of services, Sonos Favorites, etc without being onsite

__Have to go to the Sonos App to set items in Favorites list

__Stable systems will sometimes stop working requiring a Crestron program restart. Many programmers have gone to putting the Sonos System modules in a separate program slot and restart regularly ¨C this seems to help to stabilize things

__The Sonos Favorites List is a shared list, populated on all players in a system. Thus, multiple users will see all the favorites, not just their own

__You have to watch out for Network Config issues, Spanning Tree issues etc.

__Currently the integration API only supports 30 Favorites. It will display and play more, but this has been found to create unreliabilities. Supposedly the next update will expand this to 70

__Support from Sonos is questionable

__Sonos App on TSW panels have been deprecated. Still works but is a potential future issue.

?

AUTONOMIC

Pros:

__The interface is great for the ¡®Power¡¯ user because it allows direct searching on the services

__Each Chassis supports a separate list of Favorites. I tend to spec individual MMS-1e players, one for each user ¨C ex: (3) 1e¡¯s vs (1) MMS-3e

__Support from SnapAV is pretty good for basic things. If you run into real issues, as I have, you have to know to push for advanced tech support from the NY office ¨C there are still the original guys in the back room who can usually solve issues but you have to dig for them.

__MMS is built for integration

__Can be managed remotely via a VPN

Cons:

__Does not Support Apple Music and AirPlay2 (only AirPlay 1)

__Although the Creation of Favorites allows for simple, one-button selection, the MPO interface is more complicated for the average user than the Sonos interface

__More hardware issues than Sonos

?

HTH!!? I¡¯m sure I¡¯ve missed some, please fill in the blanks¡

DMPS3-4K-350 disable build in AM?

WE have had 8 new DMPS' 350 installed this week. THey are all connected to the network through LAN port.?
Network guys said that they are getting a lot of DHCP requests through same port as DMPS. I discovered it was AirMedia.
Since we do not use them, what would be best action to stop this from happening? Can I disable AM??
I know I can turn off DHCP on AM, but I'd like to know the toolbox command so I can script it.?

Thanks

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

Stefan.Mehre-

What gripes did you have with Autonomic?

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

I used Sonos together with Crestron in my home:

- the Sonos app is too small on the 760, you actually need a 1060 to be comfortable
- the dependency between TSW fw and Sonos updates is a pain
- the sonos hw is not good for integration - a bunch of small boxes (connect / connect amp) that either float around the house or you need a special solution to integrate into a rack
- messages / notifications you don?t want to see on a wall panel?

This and the info about the sunsetting of older Sonos gear brought me to look for other options.

Thorsten

I personal think it¡¯s smart with one of Crestrons solution to control Sonos ¨C with their own App. Why invent the wheel again, create a GUI that¡¯s buggy and miss tons of the feature you/customers ?want.

?

Take the BluOS ¨C would be great if the could do that with their app like they did with the Sonos app. You can start it from the x60-panels and other touchpanels (Tabs, Ipad etc) too. But it¡¯s only me?

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

floyd1212, same for us. Was happy with Autonomic and support was pretty good at the beginning but since
company changes support got hard, development got slow and we got more problems at customer systems.

We now try to jump on BluOS (Bluesound and NAD) because of the overall system possibilities (similar to SONOS
with better sound). But the provided Crestron integration is not up to date, missing features (grouping and some more)
and the way of browsing with lists of 50 items is also not what people are expecting.

So, you know that they are working on a Media Player object integration? never got such an info or even if they are
working on a new module.

Re: Crestron Masters 2020 & Coronavirus

Yep, Steve. Some serious clients have also said no to contractors too. This should be fun. <rolleyes>

Re: Non-Crestron Audio Player Recommendation? #crestron

We have a ton of Autonomic units out in the field.? It's the easiest thing to get up and running with Crestron using the Media Player object.?

Unfortunately, they have been failing on us all over the place.? Audio stops working internally, or the unit doesn't boot at all, or an audio stream stops playing for no reason.? Airplay 1 support is there, but sometimes drops off then the unit can't be discovered with your iOS device, etc.? We will be moving to the BlueSound Node2i when their Media Player object integration is ready for prime-time.

I have heard some people swear by Autonomics and some that wont touch it with a 10 foot pole. I can tell you we are in the latter of the two. We ate the cost of the product and labor on 3 separate jobs where the Autonomic would become completely unresponsive. Tech support was of no help. I now have 3 door stops in my warehouse and had to eat crow with some good clients.

Re: DM-MD8X8 CPU3 - Front Panel Menu Stopped Working Randomly

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I had an issue back few years ago with certain audio streams would cause the DM to lock up including the front panel.? However that was intermittently.? In that unit I had a mix of 4K and non 4K cards.? In the end, the fix was to replace all the cards with 4K cards.

I have had issues with Toolbox would stop working after it crashed until I rebooted my computer.? Also others have reported issues with the latest version of Toolbox -- you might try an older version.

Also I seen issues with some corruption in the SIMPL program causing issues (usually after updating Crestron software).? It would reboot the DM with the Ethernet disconnected and see if you can talk to it via USB then.

Re: Roku 3 Series W/ Smartgraphics from files section Recent Issue

I have been hitting issues in general with losing communications to devices on IPIDs 20-40 when loading a program compiled Simpl 4.11.06 onto a processor with firmware under 1.504.

Bringing the firmware up to 1.504 has fixed it every time. I will not use firmware 1.6xxx as there is an issue with loading iPad files with spaces in the name.

Hi,

i talked to Ed from Lode 5 weeks ago.
Spotify is supported. The documentation and website is not up-to-date.
I?ll receive a demo unit this week / early next week an will report back.

We took a look at Lode, but it doesn't support Spotify or Pandora yet. Most of our clients use Spotify and want the ability to search / browse the catalog from the Crestron GUI. The Autonomic MMS is the only product I have come across that does this. With Sonos integration you can only get Spotify playlists, you cant search for a song or artist from the Crestron media player.

I hope Lode gets on board with Spotify and Pandora as I would like an alternative to Autonomic.
