Re: Marantz NR1711 AVR - IP Control via SMW

@ckangis - see if you can upgrade your project to the new Cinema 70s. Much better unit than the? bottom of the line 1510.

There is also the Extron SSP200.

Re: Marantz NR1711 AVR - IP Control via SMW

Hi,
there?s also the nexgentec NGTC-MCP4K:

1HE, half rack width.

Cheers,
Thorsten

Hi Chris,
Have you checked out the Artison Backpack P5? It¡¯s only 5.1, but super slim (designed to go behind a tv) and the control is solid (we¡¯ve done a module for it).
Cheers,
Oliver

Re: Marantz NR1711 AVR - IP Control via SMW

We have used a few of the Marantz slim AV amps with IP control, and never an issue, BUT we have only ever asked for simple one way commands 0/1, source, volume, mute etc. The Artison Backpack 5 is also really good with IP control. Its slim, clutter free, and sounds good and reliable. Shame that Savant bought the company, but still available from Redline in the UK. The Crestron module needs a licence key, free when we buy from Redline.

Re: Marantz NR1711 AVR - IP Control via SMW

Just a follow-up with this subject, as I have a project with NR1510's coming up...

- Anyone had any real issues with IP control of the NR1510 units?
- Also, are there any other recommended 'Slim-Line' options that people like??

TIA!

Re: Audio Taper

Human hearing might be logarithmic but your eyes are not. Moving the fader from 80 to 90% will result in dramatic volume change, that the fader movement does not represent.

If I was coding it for myself, I will absolutely leave it untouched. Good luck explaining to the average Joe's wife the dB scale...thus I strech all of them or disable touch settable.?

Re: What is everyone using for IR with VC4? #vc4

If you have video distribution, many can send IR direct like Binary MoIP and AV Proedge.? Our sales team still prefer Samsung TVs where IP control is a pain, so we still do IR for that.??I have tested the Global Cache IP2IR and it works well.? When possible, we try to use IP controlled devices like Roku.? I have also tested making a processor secondary (slaving) and ESIC to VC4 and can confirm it works.? It comes down to designing around what is available.??

Re: Matter implementation for Crestron?

I'm not aware of any information at this time, other than?Crestron being a member.

"Participant Members contribute to and develop standards they will later adopt and use. Participants can access Alliance Working Groups, are hands-on in developing specifications, and gain early access to draft specifications and testing, with opportunity to develop and get to market faster."

Re: Audio Taper

Hi Folks,

human hearing uses logarithmic scale, therefore a logarithmic volume control should be used. The dB scale is logarithmic, therefore does the job well.
However, if you want to adjust volume more precisely, you might want to stretch the volume control in the upper range, see the fader on professional mixing consoles like this one:

I never thought about this before, will give it? try with the approach from Zac.

Best regards

Re: What is everyone using for IR with VC4? #vc4

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

People still use IR? (ducks and runs)

?

Aside from an EISC or slave (can you slave a 2-series to VC4¡hmm?) an old processor if you have an old fully caffeinated DM-RMC handy (DM-RMC-100, DM-RMC-100-C, DM-RMC-100-S, ....) you can use these for the IO ports even without using DM for video ¨C just connect the Ethernet port to network and make sure you either have it configured to run DHCP or with an appropriate static IP address.

?

It¡¯s a little janky but these are the times we¡¯re in and you can use native Crestron IR drivers¡

Subject: [crestron] What is everyone using for IR with VC4? #vc4

?

I have a few projects that I can't get processors for and the only thing holding me back from doing VC4 on them is I need IR. The CEN-IO-IR is back-order as long as the processor is, so what products have y'all had success with for IR?

Re: Apple TV 4K, Gen.3 (Latest) video issue

Edited

I've seen the issue with AppleTV (and Roku as that goes) not streaming certain content in the past.?

Just had a case a few weeks ago where the Apple TV would have sound but no picture when streaming some Acorn programs -- the picture would appear at the beginning of the steam but very quickly go black.? No DM in this system in this case but there was a Denon receiver and a AVPRO HDMI video balun between the Apple TV and the TV.? My go to fix when this happens is to connect the AppleTV directly to the TV and use either Toslink or ARC to get sound back to the receiver.? The other solution I find that works is replace the balun with a Crestron DM-TX-xxxx and DM-RMC-4KZ-100-C balun system -- it is the only balun system that I have found that works consistently.

Probably not a good solution in your case.? But I avoid putting a receiver or active HDMI cable or balun between the source and the TV at all cost -- just have had too many issues with having other devices in the HDMI path.

Re: What is everyone using for IR with VC4? #vc4

I have a VC4 sitting in my office that I've not even hooked up yet. I was planning on using Global Cache IP2IR for this. GC are solid devices - use them a lot. A bit more involved than using Crestron IR drivers though.?

Re: What is everyone using for IR with VC4? #vc4

It sounds bad, but several dealers I work with are simply using old 2-series processors for relays and IR ports. Global Cache is another option, but programming and troubleshooting is a LOT simpler with a Crestron device.

Re: Apple TV 4K, Gen.3 (Latest) video issue

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi,

?

i had to hook up an old 1.4 projector while waiting for our final showroom device and wasn?t able to play anything with a ATV 4K connected to the system (Trinnov Altitude32 preprocessor, then madVR Envy video processor, then projector).

I wasn?t able to get anything to work with the ATV, other than displaying that it?s not allowed due to HDCP issues.

?

I tried everything from factory reset, buying a second one for cross-checking, going for fixed low resolution settings, etc.

Nothing worked, except adding the HDFury Linker.

?

Cheers,

Thorsten

I don't think you're doing anything stupid or ignorant here.? In cases where you get a black screen with subtitles that are visible, the ATV clearly isn't sending 1080P / 4K / HDR to a device that can't handle those formats or you would be getting nothing at all on the screen.? The problem could be that some apps require a certain HDCP level for some content and the older display doesn't meet the requirements - the suggestion of adding an HDFury device into the mix could very likely solve that.

?

IIRC, you're located reasonably near me.? I've got several HDFury devices around that I'm not currently using.? If you would like to try one or more of them out to see if they'll solve the problem, let me know.? IIRC, I have an Integral, Linker, Vertex, and Vertex2 - I would need to double check on the Vertex.? I also have a Maestro TX/RX pair, but I can't recommend it as I had lots of problems with it.

1. Even when I don't get what I'm expecting (cant watch movie), I still sometimes get a black screen WITH subtitles, which I see as video vs no video
2. If the ATV is set to 720p/SDR, it shouldn't try to deliver a different format.
3. If it is trying to deliver a different/unsupported format, why isn't it a universal issue, instead of an issue only with certain content...This seems to tell me that the issue is the ATV changing (or getting confused) the format based on the content.

We're going to try factory defaulting the ATV to see if that resolves things. if these conditions still happen after that, I agree that it is likely an interaction between the ATV and the system.
I'll take the blame when I do something stupid or ignorant, but on this I would still put the blame elsewhere...

Thorsten,
Do you have the ADCP protocol doc that you could post?
TIA!

Re: Audio Taper

I use some combination of log, antilog and scalers in between. Result is, fader on TP is at around 50% when DSP level is at 80%, making higher volumes levels less "sensitive" when using fader.

Re: Audio Taper

Actually, my client is a fully fledged audio engineer and electronics engineer who regularly operates similar venues (a stadium in this case).

Bose is handling back of house and function spaces. The lowest tenderer won in every aspect of the AV installation.

My client is trying to give the owner what they actually need.

Thanks for the init/equ idea - way faster than doing it in S+!
