Re: Sony SRG-300H controlling over IP not saving presets
Hi Steve,
There are two different versions of the Sony modules: Version 1 has 6 presets. This module uses the presets of the camera. Version 2 has 25 presets. Afaik this version uses NVRAM of the Crestron controller, does not use the memory of the camera. Therefore you have to save the presets before recalling them, recall only works with Crestron, not with IR remote control. Best regards Crestronfreak55 |

Sony SRG-300H controlling over IP not saving presets
Brain trust, I am having an issue with saving presets on the Sony SRG-300H camera. I am using the the Sony SRG-300SE IP module and it is controlling the camera manually just fine over IP UDP from what I can tell. The only issue that I seem to have is being able to save the presets. I have used lots of Sony P&T cameras over the years and have tried everything that I can think of and it just will not save the presets. I have the technical manual with the protocol from Sony. In looking at the commands leaving the module and the return from the camera, none of it seems to match what is in the manual. In talking to Sony tech support they have indicated that while the SRG-300SE and SRG-300H are similar, there is some differences due to firmware. I have 2 rooms and 6 camaeras, all are having the same issue.?Unfortunately this is a remote job site and I am trying to troubleshoot from afar.? Steve Adams |

The other thing you can do (if it's DM) is put a sync detection dot that shows up on a connected source. This negates any confusion with a single laptop connected to multiple boxes... I really don't get having 3 HDMIs in a single box, and having two boxes. Two per box? Maybe....

You also need to make sure you match the connector types, e.g. SC/AFC, SC/APC, SC/UPC being some of the more common ones ¨C if you have an APC ¨Cterminated fiber and plug it into a UPC connector you will damage the mating surface of the connector where the fiber will likely need to be reterminated to achieve an optical loss level acceptable enough to work ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D ? This is way off topic but maybe someone can point me in the right direction.? Client has google fiber installed as ISP.? He would like to move the fiber to copper breakout box to a new location. ? This necessitates extending the incoming fiber feed about 80 feet. ? ? I have been unable to determine what fiber google uses.? My idea is to get a pre-terminated fiber cable (about 100 ft long) and couple it to the incoming fiber - move the breakout to the new location...but I don't know what extension cable to get or what coupler to get. ? Anyone know what fiber type/connection google uses and how to extend it?? I'd call google but this has been a failure in the past. ? ? Thanks.

I prioritize labels in this order until client accepts one:
1st recommendation: Laptop1..Laptop2..etc. = Label the cable/cubby with matching labels and all is done and simple, no interpretation needed on end user.? They plug in their PC, and pick the input that matches their label on the cable. 2nd Recommendation: Front Laptop, Rear Laptop = only if there is a couple positions available.? Do not use when its a big table with 6 cubby's.? Keep it to 4 or preferably less cubies.? (Front, Middle, Rear)||(Front, Rear, Left, Right).? As most people mentioned, when dealing with Left/Right I use reference as if FACING the main display(s).? Same with labeling displays when there are 2 side/by/side. 3rd Recommendation: Room/Table Layout Graphic = Create an overhead view graphic (basic nothing fancy) that shows the table or floorplan and put the inputs in their approximate location on the table or floor.? Give enough detail on the map to allow user to orient themselves in the room (like glass wall location, or projector screen location, or credenza location,1 or more 'landmarks' to know which way the map of the room aligns with the physical room). I don't, and NEVER recommend...actually, I actively steer away from it even though some clients request it is the use of actual cardinal system descriptors such as ("North Laptop", "West Laptop").? These are the WORSE possible labels to use, and the most confusion and frustrating variants out there. ??????? >? First: Unless the room has an outside facing window with some big well known landmark (like an ocean), then few people will naturally know where N/S/E/W is without using a dang compass.? Not even the programmer.? I've been in buildings that you might have some semblance of where the main entrance is (west side of building), but by the time you navigate through the lobby, down a corridor, to the main elevators, than get off on the floor of the conference room, and navigate down another corridor, through the breakroom, and kitty-corner across a cubical farm to get to the conference room, you have NO IDEA which way is North/South/East/West at this point unless you are a migrating flock or birds. ??????? >? Second: It may seem that you know N/S/E/W when you are installing, because you have drawings that show the entire floor, in CAD and are orientated with cardinal directions on it and a bunch of info that users will NOT have after the install is over with.? Fire maps don't even have that much info on them hardly. ??????? >? Thirdly: It raises the question from the end user of interpretation of NSEW directions.? Are they referencing True magnetic cardinal directions that you would find using a compass.? Or are they referencing a set of directions in relation to the room, and not the earth.? Aka, is North another name from Front of room.? South being the back of the room (regardless of what "True North" is?).? How are NSEW to be interpreted? Those are my recommendations... -jason |

We align accordingly to location. ?If in a table, we relate front being end nearest the display. Left or right as viewed facing front of room.

I am in Crestron NVX Training and asked this of the instructor. He said yes you need to do it thru SIMPL. It is under the Airmedia Slot and then under the OSD control. Bottom line of the module is where would put the URL.

Correct, Jeremy, but there was no way to verify that the implementation worked with Fusion Cloud if you have no account to run it on.? This probably isn't an issue for commercial programmers who have used Fusion in the past but, for resi programmers like me, it made it pretty much impossible for me to know if what I did was going to work properly.

QSC Q-SYS String Value Module - Polling?
This is a crosspost from the Reddit...?
The Q-SYS modules are all pretty straightforward, but I can't figure out how to poll or get the String Value Module to report feedback without sending an initial value, for instance when the Core connects. I've tried pulsing and holding the [Poll Enable] join high. I am only sending analog values for a source router named control. If I send the module a value, the feedback then reports... but I'd like that to just refresh on program start. Thanks! |

Welp, I saw my first one in the wild.
They work just fine after going into the secret menu and enabling the options for it. Still not sure what the hell they are. It says UART to 232. And the company on the back comes up as an electronics recycling company.
