Re: Lifesize stops communicating

I'll be the first to admit that my solution isn't elegant, but it worked. I
did the fixes above and was still getting lock-ups. I ended up Rolling back
my firmware to 3.155.1240 AND doing a SW Reset 30 minutes after the Lifesize
reboots if the system isn't in use. It's been stable for months. Ugly, but
the customer is happy, which makes my boss happy ;)

Did anyone ever get anywhere with this? I have managed to get it to work
mostly............. but from time to time the Lifesize will just go silent.
sending it exit\x0d a few times sometimes brings it back to life, othertimes
nothing.

Thanks for reading......

I arrived on the job site with the LifeSize unresponsive to commands.
After connecting to the system I could see that every time a command was
sent to the LifeSize unit, I would get a response from the LifeSize to login
(\x0D\x0D\x0A\x0D\x0ALifeSize login: ). After digging and digging for the
documentation on the log in protocol (which I never found), I had the
LifeSize tech support guy walk we through logging in using command prompt.
After learning that procedure, I had the Crestron processor do the exact
same every time it received that log in request from the LifeSize.
Basically, once I receive a log in request string, I trigger a serial buffer
to stop the LifeSize module from sending anymore commands for a few seconds
while I trigger a Serial I/O to send the user name and one second after that
I send the password. After that the serial buffer I set up allows the
communication for the LifeSize module to resume.

The serial command I send are as follows;

auto\x0d //the default user name followed by a carriage return (no line
feed)

(wait one second)

lifesize\x0d //the default password followed by a carriage return.

the lifesize unit will respond with "$" when the log in is successful and
you will then be return to your regularly schedule programming!

I hope this help.

So what did you end up with for a work around? I have not had a problem
communicating via RS-232 with Lifesize, all of my issues have been
TCP/IP.
I have a few things that I have done and only time will tell if it's as
stable as it should be. I would be interested knowing what you have
done to
correct the problem.

I just finished my work around for the LifeSize communication
problem. I
called LifeSize to let them know the issue is still there even after
updating to the latest firmware which they told me would fix it. They
told
me that I was the only one that has ever called in with this problem
and
that I would have to get further control support directly from
Crestron or
the LifeSize distributor. What in the world is that all about?!
LifeSize
seems to have no problem telling me it can be controlled by Crestron,
but no
one seems to want to support it. I guess you're just on your own when
it
comes to controlling LifeSize. I need to find a different line of VTC
gear
to spec for the next job. Goodbye LifeSize.

I'm working with a client-furnished LifeSize Room that the client
says
stops communicating with the Crestron processor after X amount of
time. Allegedly, a reboot of the LifeSize unit doesn't resume
communications, but a reboot of the processor does. I'm using the
Crestron Modules (plus Chip's extra remote keys module).

Has anybody here seen this happening?
