Do you mean full foot to the floor on a literal sence. Are you running out of room to push the pedal? That would be from air in the lines, or your brake fluid level is low. I am assuming that is not it but could be a clue to someone with more knowlage than me.?

Hi All,
When I bought my CCar, the brakes (while they worked) weren't good and I figured they could use some work. Here's what I've done so far:
- Replaced the master cylinder. I did bench-bleed it.
- (tried to) Rebuild the left rear brake cylinder. It was leaking, so I got it new rubber, honed it, and put it back together. It still leaks, but not as bad now... The internal metal piece was bent out of shape on the new rubber on the side that leaks (Still). I wonder if that it the cause of the leak.
- I adjusted all the brakes, though I've never done it before. They worked much better afterwards (testing the car at 1-5MPH rolling).
Here's the problem--despite everything I've done, the brakes somehow manage to be worse than when I bought the car! Other than that leaking cylinder, I don't see anything wrong with the system. The pads and drums should be fine, the car has under 2K on it.
Anyone have any tips for how to get the brakes back to working condition?
(To give an idea of how bad they are: 10MPH, foot down to the floor, and the brakes do almost nothing. If I was on level ground, I might stop after 20-30 feet.)

I have a kilovac coming of the 48v pack and it is also fused with a 400a slow blow fuse. The frame of the car is also ungrounded. All the grounds splice together in industrial grade explosion proof boxes. Fire risk should be quite low.?

Yes the f/r contactor. But I go f/n/f not reverse, to avoid accidentally sending voltage the wrong way. If it does it a lot... You might have an alignment problem with your contacts, or the coil is not pulling them down correctly. Forward should be the bottom contacts, early cars were wired backwards and used the upper contacts for forward. The bottom are better.? I use a Sr48600 and the stock f/n/r contactor so similar to your set up.? Another thing to think about is a dust cover. All it takes is one piece of crap to fall between contacts and create a problem. My stock cover no longer fits with the new controller and I am building a new cover currently.?

That is from the f/r contractor. Not from the controller or the motor right? As you said I will toggle the contractor back and forth from forward to reverse sometimes and that will usually make it stop. Never knew what really made the noise. Good to know thanks.

My quick fix is to toggle forward neutral forward to allow the contacts to try and seat better. Always works. Even with new contacts it still does it once in a while.?

Mine seems to do this as well--It usually moves but not very well when it does so. Mine is an original contactor setup--but even with the Altrax controller, I assume you have at least one contactor left?
The contactors making insufficient contact seems like a reasonable cause--I suspected motor brushes or something, though I know the ones in mine were replaced recently, so it shouldn't be those.

I had my 72 volt C-car set up right.? Equal weight on each wheel.? New shocks.? 1/2" of toe which really stabilizes the ride at the expense of range.? We got out behind my restaurant with a buddy who would run my radar gun.? Here's where my memory is failing a little.? I can't remember whether I achieved 52 or 56 MPH.? I was SCARED and backed off before full throttle.? In my youth I raced both motocross and stock cars so I've my share of sticky situations.? But nothing like this.? I don't think 60 mph is possible regardless of the balls of the driver.? I believe the car would flip from just a small bump in the road.? At the speed I achieved the car was starting to pogo forward and back with at least the front wheels coming off the pavement. A whole 'nuther issue is motor armature speed.? I had the non-hill-climbing rear end.? Still, the armature was sure to come apart at the speed I was shooting for.?
