? ? ? ? ? ? Hi Nick and All, ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? Yes it is strange and intermittent and certainly can cause a contactor, especially if already pitted, to sizzle, hum. As can the motor itself. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? Likely the field? magnetizes due to heavy starting? draw and stays that way until power is cut, then back on. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? You should carry and axe instead of a fire extinguisher or a good power cut off switch as your main fire risk is a plasma fire that may need the wires cut.? But it is very rare to happen more than a short time as something will melt, burn up putting it out. ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

What is strange is that it is such an internment noise. Never really get it to do it when you try. Fun little cars. I keep a fire extinguisher in the car in case. But so far I have had no problems with mine. But nothing electrical is stock. Except for the forward reverse contractor.? Hi Nick? and All, ? ? ? ? ?? Yes this happens and is in the motor.? But not a problem. ?? The series? motor seems to get stuck in high power/torque? mode when accelerating and pulling a lot of power. ? ? ? ? ?? I was very happy when I found out by letting off power, then power on again and amps dropped by a lot for the same speed.? So I just do that for the last 26 yrs. ? ? ? ? ? ? I'd cut that fuse back to 250 amp as it take likely 1k amps for a second or more to blow a 400 amp one. ? Check Altrax to see what size they recommend. ? I like to fuse both packs if 2. ? ?? Being cheap I've made my fuses from 16-12GGe solid copper wire has worked well for me for 25 yrs.? Just make sure when blown the wire doesn't move and any melted melt goes where it doesn't harm anything. I start with a small one 4" of 14gge looped at the ends to fit a bolt, etc? for the Citicar to start.? If they blow in normal hard operation, I go to 12gge.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? Jerry Dycus

I have had this happen alot in my car. It has a d&d motor 48v and an altrax axe controller. The wiring is all new in the whole car. It uses the stock forward reverse contractor. Sometimes when I hit the accelerator it will make a sound like a kazoo and the harder you press the louder it gets. I let off the accelerator and lightly get back on. This almost always stops this whine from continuing. It has been doing this for a? thousand miles or so. I am not experiencing and problems but I am not sure what it could be. The controller is 600a and I have a 400a slow blow fuse attached to it. Any ideas what could make this noise. It is not terribly loud but you can hear it about the volume of someone talking quietly.?
