Re: Charging accessory Battery
Update on my battery issue.? Got home after charging the battery all day with my shop like battery charger.? Took it off charge and put the key in and turn it to run.? Dash lights came on and then went dim.? Checked the battery with my battery checker I just got from harbor Freight and the battery is totally dead.? Well that makes sense why I was having do much trouble.? My ignition key is spinning in the dash.? trying to tighten it up, but no luck as yet. Can that be replaces with a common ignition switch if need be? |
Re: citicar parts
开云体育Cool. I would love to pick up leaf springs and a rear terrel diff for the citicar. Let me know if you are looking to sell or anything. I am located out of CT. Email is nicholasgee58@...? Re: Charging accessory Battery
I've installed mine in the battery compartment. The output is attached where the 18V wire goes to the meter and accessories. I also replaced the meter with a 48v version. Bart

Re: Charging accessory Battery
开云体育But one thing - if you have a stock contactor setup, you’ll probably want a 24 to 12 dcdc, connected to one half of the pack. This is because 48v is not always available, depending on the position of the series/parallel contactor.?Make sure your dcdc is the isolated type before you buy.? Re: Charging accessory Battery
I prefer having the accessory battery for times I have the headlights, fan or stereo on for extended periods, such as car cruises that will not effect my range at all. Like I might cover 35 miles but in 5hrs, rather than one.? A plus is that it also is not likely to fail when driving.? On the against side, a converter is cheaper sometimes, lighter, and probably simpler, and less maintenance.?

Re: Charging accessory Battery
Ebay has a good selection.? These are 48V to 12V at 20 amps: ?? Bart

Re: Charging accessory Battery
So my 1977 citicar has a accessory battery under the hood.? It does not charge off of the main charger or is not hooked up that way.? I can hook up a trickle charger and plug that in separately to keep the battery topped off.? I'll look into the 12v dc/dc converter.? any ideas where I could source one? Mark |
Re: Charging accessory Battery
开云体育In the original Citicar, there was no accessory (12v) battery. They used part of the main pack to run 12v and 18v items.?When they moved the batteries to the bumpers, a 12v accessory battery was installed. The charger did two jobs - the main pack 48v, and the accessory battery 12v.? Common practice nowadays is to charge the 12v using a DC/DC converter off of the main pack. Easier to configure if you aren’t using the original contactor 24/48 volt setup.? Tom Keenan On Jul 31, 2019, at 5:21 AM, Dave Brice dbrice3721@... [C-Car] <C-Car@...> wrote:

Re: Charging accessory Battery
A dead accessory battery would stop my car. No matter how much charge my 48v pack has. I use a cheap onboard charger from harbor freight wired to it permanently. So far so good. I'm not sure how it was originally charged.?

Charging accessory Battery
Question.? If my 12v accessory battery was dead, would it cause the car not to run?? I Know it sounds like a dumb question.? I know the 48v is what powers the electric motor. Also other than putting on a external battery charger, how did folks back in 1977 charge the accessory battery?? The External port only charges the 48 volts on the batteries under my seat correct?? Think I would have know that by now.? The hood I cut into my car gives me quick access to the battery but in the old days they would have had to crawl under the dash..... Thanks, Mark |
Brakes not working update
开云体育It has been about 2 weeks since my brakes went out while driving. Turns out it ran low on fluid. I topped off with dot3 and flushed the system. Everything works well now. Wanted to fix this earlier but am in the middle of a home renovation. Sent from my MetroPCS 4G LTE Android Device |

开云体育I’ll give these a whirl, I have a cheater digital read out for a reference. I’ll report back when I figure it outTony Perreault?

Re: Volt Meter /Fuel Gauge
? ? ? ? Hi Tom and All, ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? For meters I suggest looking at MPJA that has various meters that work from 48vdc for voltage.? Even a watthr meter though a Ccar currents might be too high is only $19..? I use it on my 700lb EV and works great. ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? Another place is LightObject which has many meters including a great EV wthr meter, HB404? that can be used to control the charger and handles the currents .? There is an 'EVWest Wthr meter video' on it.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? Jerry Dycus?

I just used my Citicar (when it had 8v batteries) with 16v on the meter. ?It was low, as you noticed. It -might- be possible to put a small dc/dc converter in series with two of the batteries, and adjusting the dc/dc output to add about 2 volts to ‘correct’ the meter.? Small LM2596 based converters are relatively cheap on Amazon.. ?One listing has them 6 ea for $10.95. I’m not sure how they will act in series, however. ?They may or may not behave well in a high voltage string.? Alternatively, there is a meter adjustment screw on the front of the meter that changes the spring rate of the meter, but this may change the zero setting as well. ? Third option: the meter has a resistor in line with the meter; you might be able to change the value of the resistor to get the meter matched with 16 volts.? Re: Volt Meter /Fuel Gauge
开云体育So that makes sense, if you have 6 volt batteries it’s getting the voltage from 3 of the batteries (6 x 3 =18). It is telling you the state of those batteries which should be the same as the hole pack. I use 8 volt batteries, so I pegged it at 24 or was supper low at 16 volts. Anybody else able to convert it for 8 volt?Tony Perreault?
