Winlink in-line picture attachments dropped by BPQ BBS
7
John, Inline attachments like pictures between the text are just unceremoniously dropped by the BBS and deleted. This also the case for the html code. (Non-inline attachments are fine.) Is this a bug? Should be nice to receive these. Linbpq version is 6.0.24.69. Regards, Boudewijn VE3TOK -- There is nothing permanent except change Heraclitus

Winlink Node via BPQ32 on Linux?
5
Our area is sparse for vhf / uhf winlink nodes. Id like to add one to the area but we dont have the power nor hardware on our possible site to support a bloated windows server install. Bpq32 on Ubunutu server would be much more acheivable. Ive heard mention that bpq32 can be set up as a winlink server / node to offer the service to folks using winlink express. Is there a good guide on how to do this? Im sure there are some relevant posts but I wasnt able to find any with some full info (perhaps my searching skills need some training) 73 and tnx DE W1BTR

Hi folks. Is there a map or list of BPQ nodes/BBS with operating frequencies? Many do not mention the frequencies on the node map. I would like to try connections on 10m. TIA

CMS logging
John, I¡¯ve noticed in the bbs log on incoming connections the port and frequency used are reported, but the CMS log does not. I¡¯m curious to know by what mode my users are using when connected to my RMS service, at least knowing what port was used would give me a clue. thanks Jim KI0BK

LinBPQ says: Error - Port in use (Session Attached
4
Hi all, I have been experimenting with a newly-added KAM port (#6). It looks to me that after an outgoing call was tried in G-tor mode (either from QtTermTCP or from within a forwarding script) the modem remains in some state where no other command is accepted, such as bellow: Connected to TelnetServer att 6 LPTP:YU7BPQ} Ok c <call> *** Failure with <call> gtor <call> KAM} $ Input ignored gtor KAM} gtor <call> KAM} $ Input ignored pactor KAM} c <call> tor KAM} Disconnected ... or when a fwd script session fails, it does not return to scan frequencies but remains on the last one used. Seems that it keeps the port busy: Connected to TelnetServer att 6 LPTP:YU7BPQ} Error - Port in use (Session Attached Disconnected Connected to TelnetServer att 6 LPTP:YU7BPQ} Error - Port in use (Session Attached Disconnected Connected to TelnetServer att 6 LPTP:YU7BPQ} Error - Port in use (Session Attached A sample fwd script includes this: ATTACH 6 RADIO 14.10230 USB #\TRX F 14102.30 #\TRX F 7044 PAUSE 2 #MYLEVEL 1 MSGTYPES PTRB5000 C <call> ELSE ATTACH 6 RADIO 14.10230 USB #\TRX F 14102.30 #\TRX F 7044 PAUSE 2 #MYLEVEL 1 MSGTYPES PTRB5000 GTOR <call> Any idea what can be wrong? LocalNet does not work with AGW connections to BPQ
Hi, Can this be fixed so if your source address is in LOCALNET=x.x.x.x/24 on the telnet port also covers AGW connections to node "SWITCH"? Meaning that when I use QTTermTCP to connect to bpq in AGW mode and try to use node sysop commands like: ATTACH port RADIO 12.3456 I get you are not authorized. Yea I could use the sysop password but think this LOCALNET should cover AGW sessions covering this so I dont need to auth when coming from a trusted IP range. Thanks

Chat Link Reconnect Failure
Sometime overnight the chat service #USWCH:WA3WLH-14 on the US West regional chat hub #USWST:WA3WLH-15 dropped the chat link with my home chat service WLHCHT:WA3WLH-11 on node WLHNOD:WA3WLH-7. This is not unexpected given random weirdness on the internet and is typically the result of some secondary or child chat link hanging on to NETROM info for way too long. It is easy to confirm by reviewing the chat log for the dreaded "Refusing link from WA3WLH-14 to WA3WLH-11 to prevent a loop.". I assumed the drop last night was due to this sort of loop prevention so I never bothered to verify since the condition typically clears within 12 hours or so. Now that it is well late in the afternoon I see that while there is a good AXUDP link between these nodes the chat services remain disconnected so I had a look in the chat log. I can see a chat service connect from my home node to the west hub followed almost immediately by a disconnect from the west hub but where there used to be the loop prevention message there is no obvious reason that I can see. Here is what I see in actual chat log file: 250418 20:30:11 |#USWCH Connecting to Chat Node #USWCH 250418 20:30:11 <#USWCH *** CONNECTED 250418 20:30:11 >#USWCH C WA3WLH-14 250418 20:30:12 <#USWCH WLHNOD:WA3WLH-7} Connected to #USWCH:WA3WLH-14 250418 20:30:13 <#USWCH [BPQChatServer-6.0.24.69] 250418 20:30:13 >#USWCH *RTL 250418 20:30:13 >#USWCH KWA3WLH-11 WA3WLH-14 6.0.24.69 250418 20:30:25 |#USWCH Chat Node WA3WLH-14 Disconnected I had a QTT monitor on the AXUDP port running at the time so here is the corresponding monitor: 20:30:12R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <I C P S7 R3> NET/ROM WA3WLH-11 to WA3WLH-14 ttl 25 cct=0402 <CON REQ> w=4 WA3WLH-11 at WA3WLH-11 t/o 60 20:30:12T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <RR R F R0> 20:30:12T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <I C P S3 R0> NET/ROM WA3WLH-14 to WA3WLH-11 ttl 25 cct=0402 <CON ACK> w=153 my cct=058A 20:30:12R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <RR R F R4> 20:30:12T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <I C P S4 R0> NET/ROM WA3WLH-15 to WA3WLH-11 ttl 25 cct=0402 <INFO S0 R0>: [BPQChatServer-6.0.24.69] 20:30:13R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <RR R F R5> 20:30:13R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <I C P S0 R5> NET/ROM WA3WLH-11 to WA3WLH-14 ttl 25 cct=058A <INFO S0 R1>: *RTL KWA3WLH-11 WA3WLH-14 6.0.24.69 20:30:13T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <RR R F R1> 20:30:14T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <I C P S5 R1> NET/ROM WA3WLH-15 to WA3WLH-11 ttl 25 cct=0402 <INFO S1 R1>C: xZJM+-NLKWHILKVH+JOUw4wqP54T(IsL@"T2T<D||=.np 20:30:14R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <RR R F R6> 20:30:24R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <I C P S1 R6> NET/ROM WA3WLH-11 to WA3WLH-14 ttl 25 cct=058A <INFO ACK R2> 20:30:24T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <RR R F R2> 20:30:25T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <I C P S6 R2> NET/ROM WA3WLH-15 to WA3WLH-11 ttl 25 cct=0402 <DISC REQ> 20:30:25R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <RR R F R7> 20:30:25R WA3WLH-7>WA3WLH-15 Port=1 <I C P S2 R7> NET/ROM WA3WLH-11 to WA3WLH-15 ttl 25 cct=058A <DISC ACK> 20:30:25T WA3WLH-15>WA3WLH-7 Port=1 <RR R F R3> Any clue why the DISC REQ from the hub? 73 de Rich WA3WLH

BPQ Mail crash - confirmation help
2
Can someone help with confirming or denying that this situation happens to you please. Required: Windows 10. BPQ Mail. HTTP access. Templates installed. Open Browser to BPQ Node Pages Select Webmail Select Send Message Select Use Template Select General Forms Select No Page Selected At this point BPQ Mail closes. I'd like to see if this happens to all others. If so, perhaps John can fix the code where it returns to the previous page or back to List. To prevent this, select Back on your browser until you get to the list. But, if you go back to the form and click cancel, it takes you to the form selection again. "When I sent to the doctor and complained, his answer was Don't do that." Perhaps that is the answer here... -- 73, Mark, N5MDT Montgomery, Texas http://n5mdt.ham-radio-op.net:52852

OT: Digipoint Authors (RETRO fun)
6
Now that I have DOSFBB running nicely with Dos BPQ4.09, I have moved on to Atari TOS :D I have been playing with DPBOX for a couple of years now, and I thought I would give digipoint (t's predecessor on Atari) a spin. It is really an awesome piece of code. It kind of makes me sad to see this very cool and powerful BBS software go the way of the do-do bird. At least DOSFBB is Y2K compliant (at least 7.00i is). I have it running, but I am not even going to mess with satellite tracking as it thinks it is in November 1995. I am not certain this has to do with the emulator -- I am still learning it. Anyhow, to my point. I would like to patch this thing for Y2K compliance, and I need the source. Does anyone know how to get in touch with: Joachim Schurig, DL8HBS or Mark Wahl, DL4YBG I figure I would have the best luck finding info here. -73 de Chris Maness -- Thanks, Chris Maness

Status: Freedv and bpq
Hi, It's been a while since I revisited this, but has there been any status updates on freedv and bpq? Last I visited this the freedv dev said they were working with G8BPQ to get the API and BPQ in sync but its been many months so I figured I'd just throw an ask out here. 73

SESSIONTIMELIMIT

Looking for assistance with this command in my VARA HF port. I am finding the need to put a limit on this port, to counter the RMS users that think they should use VARA HF to download a week or two worth of WL2K messages. Current ("new") Rig Control and associated ports
7
Hi All, I've been using the new/current rig control method ever since adding rig control to linbpq a little over a year ago. I only have one HF radio for now, and I've never needed a "RADIO 1" statement in any of the ports that are associated with the radio. Given there are multiple ports using the same radio, I do have INTERLOCK=1 in each port. If I were to add a second radio and therefore a RADIO 2 section in the rig control area of the main config, would INTERLOCK=2 in each associated port be sufficient to "point" new ports to radio #2, or would I need to add RADIO 1 and RADIO 2 statements to each applicable port? Currently I can't tell if the interlock statement is taking care of associating the ports to the radio, or if I am getting away with no RADIO 1 statement because it's implied due to only having one radio. Thanks, Lee K5DAT

CVE-2025-24264 Vulnerabilities
2
Reviewing the Wazuh SIEM daily report, I am seeing multiple high vulnerabilities on two RPi5's both the piLinBPQ64 servers. Both piLinBPQ64 servers are Debian RPi5 64bit based. Both vulnerabilities are part of (CVE-2025-24264) And, it is not just Linux that is affected. IOS iPad, MAC and more... https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2025-24264 libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 libjavascriptcoregtk-4.1-0 This CVE is not showing up on another Debian RPi5 hosting JNOS and XRouter (yet). The libraries are not installed. Maybe this is part of a gtk2 and/or gir1.2 packages? Is anyone else seeing these alerts? 73, JohnF ps. In case you are interested: If you don't have a SIEM to watch your logs, I would recommend the OpenSource Wazuh solution. It has a wide range of supporting OS's. Just do the Quickstart and you will be up and running in minutes(not hours like ElasticSearch). Another great free cyber tool is Snort3. I use mine as a NIPS which provides active blocking (e.g. telnet connections trying for "root" access). This is a little more involved to set up, but I believe it worth the time and effort. I have Snort3 running on each of the RPi5 Debian servers. The Wazuh SIEM is running on a standalone Ubuntu 24.04 LTS box and a wazuh-agent at the endpoints.
