Many of the legacy Yaesu mobiles with the circular data port on the rear such as the FT-8900R; the Kenwood TM-D700 and 710's have 9600 capability and can be put in KISS mode since they have tnc's? built'in. You can find a bunch on eBay. Finally, Alinco mobiles with the DB9 port on the rear. But hard to come by.

Commercial rigs should work, Motorola and Vertex rigs. Icom makes a very good commercial data radio that covers 2meters w/o any mods, if you are serious and have about US$535 in your pocket.

Hi Alan,
Yes. The 8800 has a data port on the rear. But you have to do some homework by downloading the manual and look at the specs. Cables for some rigs need to wired up differently to take advantage of the 9600 feature. 9600 can be tricky too. Make sure you have a good line of site.?

The web site below has virtually almost every ham radio ever made. And then some... Pictures, manuals, specs, etc.

Finally, I'm not sure of your goals for 9600,? but because the amount of data I'm passing is so small, I just stick to 1200. Yes. It's noticeably faster and if you get it working, there is definitely a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment as a hobbist. But you have to ask yourself, do you really need it?

Stay in touch with your progress!
