Welcome Msg
4
I have a simple (no BBS, CHAT or APRS) Winlink Packet Gateway running on a Raspberry pi using linbjpq. Stations connect, receive and send WL email. Is there a way to have a welcome message displayed to the connecting station? I've tried using CTEXT (with FULL_CTEXT=1), and INFOMSG, but they don't seem to work. No big deal, but might be a nice touch. Thanks, 73

Suggestion for futur LIN/PI BPQ.
2
Hi John, Thanks for your popular BBS system, may I propose you with a suggestions? On top of using tap that use the Linux stack, having the possibility to use TUN would be nice, specially if someone use a different software like Jnos or XRouter as gateway for the ampr network -- 73 de Jean, VA2OM / VE2PKT

PSA: LAG on newer revs of hamlib 4.6.1 with BPQ HAMLIB server
2
Hi, I just wanted to post to folks who may experience lag with BPQ and rigctl(d).exe commands. It seems that there is something different in 4.6.1 that causes lag. Im not sure as I did not deep dive into each revision. But I went to version 4.1 hamlib and the issue went away. Others may wish to vet this further. Hamlib loves to change things around so often it is kind of a rolling target. Here I would use something like HAMLIB=3333 or so on in your rigcontrol lines then fire something like 'rigctl -m 2 -r $IP_OF_BPQ:3333 f' and it will take just sometimes 10-20 seconds to return results. As noted earlier trying 4.1 rev of stable seemed to knock out the delays. N9SEO

BPQ32 APRS not Digipeating all packets.

Hello I run BPQ32 APRS in various ports, port 2 is APRS and BBS 145.090 in the same channel, port 4 is APRS 144.390, port HF VARA HF etc. I have noticed that in VHF port 2 & 4 not all packets are being Digipeating. Feature Request - Send new messages
6
Hello John G8BPQ, I'm looking for an enhancement to the "Send new messages without waiting for poll timer" functionality. I'd like to see a hold-off timer associated with sending new messages. This would be a one-time hold-off as opposed to the normal forwarding interval. This would be particularly useful on HF in cases when you want the first attempt to forward to happen relatively soon but not immediately. If one sets the normal forwarding interval fairly low in order to send a new message fairly soon, a problem can arise in HF when conditions are not good. In that case the BBS will try over and over to resend at relatively short intervals, which is not good for either the radio or spectrum utilization. I think this would be a nice enhancement for internet based forwarding also. I've found if I check the box circled above on too many forwarding partners so that lots of simultaneous forwarding is launched for the same message, I end up with "line begins with F" type errors on some BBS's. I probably butchered that description a bit. Thanks, Lee K5DAT

Incoming Winlink Messages
5
John, G8BPQ We have been developing a VARA HF forwarding network here in the states, we are allowing portable hf station access to packet node & bbs, Winlink RMS & APRS sms & email services. More importantly we are providing an RF forwarding Backbone for numerus BBS stations across the US. www.tprfn.net My question for you is, is there a way to configure BPQ to accept incoming Winlink messages from end users that could be added to BPQ instead of being sent straight to the BPQ CMS service? Running Winlink RMS Relay and Tri Mode over top of BPQ can be done however it uses up a lot of computer resources. If incoming WL2K messages were stored on the BBS as a private message, then using the RMS forwarding script that messages could be sent to the CMS or if the grid is down, then our network could forward the message out via RF to one of the Hubs that may have internet access. Is this possible? This process could really enhance our single source network to EMCOMM's in the US. Thanks in advance! BPQ VARA Modem Port Issue
12
Hello All, I tried my best to solve the following problem on my own, but I am spinning my wheels a bit, so I decided to try this forum. If the VARA-MODEM group is better suited for this topic, please let me know. My apologies for the long post, but I wanted to capture as much of the context as possible in the following write-up. Any help would be appreciated as I am trying to bring back the BBS scene to the Southwest. I am very new to BPQ with only two months of experience, so please excuse my ignorance. (If John Wiesman is reading, thank you for developing BPQ and QtTermTCP!) # BPQ VARA Modem Port Issue ## PROBLEM STATEMENT I currently have LinBPQ (6.0.24.1) running under Ubuntu 22.10 with ports configured for VHF 1200 baud, UHF 9600 baud, and HF 300 baud packet. All of these work great and users are able to connect using QtTermTCP. I am trying to introduce a more reliable HF link into the BBS and have been experimenting with the addition of a VARA HF port. However, all my attempts to connect to the BBS over the VARA port via the VARA Terminal or QtTermTCP only result in both VARA modem simply exchanging ACKs until the maximum 15 attempts is reached. My first naive question is if it is even possible to use the VARA Terminal to connect to BPQ over VARA? I have been unsuccessful with QtTermTCP, too. ## SYSTEM CONFIGURATION ### LINBPQ To simplify the troubleshooting, I am running LinBPQ and VARA on the same machine. However, the goal is to run LinBPQ on one computer and VARA HF on another computer on the local network. This is why I am using Hamlib (rigctld) to control the PTT. The following is the BPQ configuration with the Telnet and packet ports removed. ``` SIMPLE BBS=1 LOCATOR=DM33XV NODECALL=KT7RUN-2 NODEALIAS=TTP2 CTEXT: TTPBBS Command Description ? Show help BBS Connect to BBS *** FULL_CTEXT=1 BTEXT: KT7RUN-2 BPQ node *** BTINTERVAL=15 IDMSG: KT7RUN-2 Network node (BPQ) *** INFOMSG: Welcome to the TTP BPQ node. *** MAPCOMMENT=TTP2 LinBPQ Node IDINTERVAL=15 NODESINTERVAL=25 PORT PORTNUM=1 ID=VARA DRIVER=VARA CONFIG ADDR 127.0.0.1 8300 PTT HAMLIB BW500 RIGCONTROL HAMLIB 127.0.0.1:4532 **** ENDPORT APPLICATION 1,BBS,,KT7RUN-2,TTP2,255 LINMAIL ``` ### VARA SETTINGS ON BBS * OS: Ubuntu 22.10 (x64) * Runtime: WINE * VARA Version: 4.8.9 * Settings > VARA Setup * Configured a valid license key for my callsign * Accept 500 Hz connection = checked * KISS interface = checked * Radio: IC-7200 * Set to USB with a wide filter and in digital mode * Fast AGC enabled * ALC is tuned to read 1/3 scale Notes: 1. Digital modes work for JS8Call, Winlink (ARDOP and VARA), and 300 baud packet. 2. PTT is correctly triggered ## NOTES & OBSERVATIONS * When attempting to connect via QtTermTCP or the VARA Terminal applications, there is an exchange between both VARA modems in which only the ACKs are sent and received by both VARA modems. After 15 15 attempts, the client running the terminal software will ID via CW and the connection is disconnected. * I am able to connect using VARA HF to multiple Winlink RMS stations using Pat from both the BBS station as well as from my other client station that I have been using to access the BBS. This leads me to believe the VARA and the radios are correctly configured on bo

Minimize BPQ to Tray Loses menu
I'm a new user of BPQ32 and apps on Win10. I've probably done something wrong but I find that sometimes when I minimize BPQ32 and apps to the system tray that I will lose the menu you get when you click on the icon in the tray. Many times it works fine. I can shutdown the BPQ stuff by closing the respective windows but it doesn't get rid of the icon in the system tray. I usually regain control by shutting down the BPQ32.exe in the Task Mgr Under the Apps section. Anyone see this? I tried searching the Groups.io forum and didn't see anything. I assume most people use LinBPQ instead of the Windows version so that may be a reason. This is from the BPQ console: There are no errors in the console when I have this issue. Is there anywhere else to look in the BPQ directory structure? n5pwp - Mike

Hi everyone just playing around with ip over radio and wondering if there is a snipet of the bpq32.cfg file that shows what goes in the port declaration so it is assigned an ipaddress¡¡ also it looks like the ipgateway block is in the general section as it seems to define the ipinfo to your home network? not that i am doing it yet what is involved in setting up an Ampernet tunnel¡¡ sorry lots of questions! -- Bob va3rjs

QtTermTCP or other KISS terminal for iPhone App?
2
There are several apps for iPhone for AX.25 in unconnected mode (APRS) but I can only find one for UI/connected mode and that is incorporated into Radiomail. I would like to be able to use an iPhone to connect to a packet (BPQ) BBS or node over RF. For example an HT, Mobilink and iPhone. It appears there is a MacOS compile of QtTermTCP https://tarpn.net/t/builder/builders_qttermtcp_macosx.html Does anyone else see a use for this on iOS? If so, how difficult would this be? Other options for connected mode on iOS? I have all the pieces to do this, but no experience building iOS apps or with KISS. I can use BLE interface to communicate with serial devices, but the easier solution would be a software solution to existing TNCs, rather than build a external TNC2 for connected mode. The idea of a Pi Zero W 2 strapped to a HT and VNC from an iPhone has crossed my mind but it doesn't seem to be the right way to do this, or power efficient. Implementing a simple command line terminal in Radiomail seems like it would be a possible shortcut since it has all heavy lifting done already? For those suggesting Android or other portable devices, moving my phone to another platform is not an option...at this point. Feel free to DM and convince me otherwise! 73 Damon N1LJK@N1LJK.#LINC.ME.USA.NOAM

QtSoundModem on a separate host: changing radios
18
My IC-7100 stopped transmitting power. I want to use my IC-7300 in its place. I have been running pilinbpq (on a rpi;-) since December 2020 and QtSoundModem64 on a tiny x86 laptop for about 2 years. I am no longer familiar with how to select my radio's serial port; /dev/ttyUSB73 . 'aplay -l/arecord -l' reports my IC-7300 on "Card 2" ("hw:2,0" ?). My IC-7100 was "Card 1" ("hw:1,0 ?) I cannot find a reference to "/dev/ttyUSB" nor "hw:#,0" in QtSoundModem.ini. I found a previous reference to "hw:1,0" in (GUI) QtSoundModem64 -> Settings -> Setup Devices -> Dialog -> Sound Card. I changed that to 'hw:2,0'. BPQ did set my IC-7300 to 7.101 MHz, so maybe something is working. My IC-7100 uses CI-V address 88h, my IC-7300 uses CI-V address 94h. Where to I edit this setting? 73, Chuck

I also tried some kind of AscII ART in CTEXT between CTEXT: and **** eg: CTEXT: ____ _ _ ____ ____ ____ _ | _ \| | | | __ )| __ ) ___| | |__ _ _ | |_) | |_| | _ \| _ \___ \ | '_ \| | | | | _ <| _ | |_) | |_) |__) | | |_) | |_| | |_|_\_\_|_|_|____/|____/____/ |_.__/ \__, | | _ \ / _ \/ | / \|_ _| \/ | |___/ | | | | | | | | / _ \ | | | |\/| | | |_| | |_| | |/ ___ \| | | | | | |____/ \___/|_/_/ \_\_| |_| |_| **** Loock nicer in Terminal.. With the ASCII Art the Linbpq wouldent even Start. By trying so it prompted, 'Translation Error'? Is there any Trick to get this things Working? Kind Regards and 73. DO1ATM Tom
