Re: BPQ VARA Beacon
Hello Jean, I don't know about VARA FM because I've never used it, but the only way I can think of on VARA HF is to set up a KISS over TCP port in BPQ that points to the VARA KISS port. Then others using VARA would need to do the same and monitor the port or at least check the mheard on it. If VARA FM also has a KISS port, then the same approach should work. 73, Lee K5DAT On Wed, Jan 29, 2025 at 7:53?AM Jean L¨¦tourneau via <ve2pkt=[email protected]> wrote:

Incoming Winlink Messages
John, G8BPQ We have been developing?a VARA HF forwarding network here in the states, we are allowing portable hf station access to packet node & bbs, Winlink RMS & APRS sms & email services. More importantly we are providing an RF forwarding Backbone for numerus BBS stations across the US. ? My question for you is, is there a way to configure BPQ to accept?incoming Winlink messages from end users that could be added to BPQ instead of being sent straight to the BPQ CMS service? Running Winlink RMS Relay and Tri Mode over top of BPQ can be done however?it uses up a lot of computer resources.? If incoming WL2K messages were stored on the BBS as a private message, then using the RMS forwarding script that messages could be sent to the CMS or if the grid is down, then our network could forward the message out via RF to one of the Hubs that may have internet access. Is this possible? This process could really enhance our single source network to EMCOMM's in the US. Thanks in advance! Re: Feature Request - Send new messages
Lee,
?
I have made a few changes here to deal with the VARA HF problem you describing. I have adjusted my forwarding script and
added a PAUSE line between the first attempt and the 2nd, then the script starts over if the 1st two attempts are unsuccessful?
with the forward.?

IDLETIME 60 MSGTYPES PTRB15000 RADIO 7.1013 USB D 2 C K5DAT-1 ?
Downside with this script is that it captures the entire port for the length for the script!?
?
The 2nd problem is if the message size is larger then the MSGTYPES line states, once I connect to a forwarding partner and the message is
not sent if larger the 15000 (as it should), however BPQ continues to try to deliver that same message to that same partner. Is there
a way to clear that message from the forwarding queue based on size without changing the message size globally???

Re: BPQ VARA Modem Port Issue
Mark,
?
You did it! Thank you. That did the trick. In short, there are no duplicate calls in the BPQ configuration. Some of this syntax looked like magic. My actual BPQ node (not the test station) is now working nicely on all ports including VARA HF with the following:
?
NODECALL=KT7RUN-7
NODEALIAS=TTPNDE
?
...
APPLICATION 1,BBS,,KT7RUN-11,TTPBBS,255 APPLICATION 2,CHAT,,KT7RUN-12,TTPCHT,255 APPLICATION 3,RMS,C 2 CMS,KT7RUN-10 ... ? I am on 7.100 USB for anyone that wants to connect. ? A big thanks to Lee K5DAT and Kayne N9SEO ? 73, ? Gaston KT7RUN |
Re: BPQ32 APRS not Digipeating all packets.
I hesitate to even get into this but if this were mine I would try the following...
?
Port 2 & 4 comment out these lines:
UNPROTO=APBPQ1,WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1
?BCALL=NP4JN-11 ?
The path and bcall used is defined in your aprsdigi section.
?
aprsdigi section:
?
Comment out the following lines:
TRACECALLS=WIDE,TRACE
?DIGICALLS=WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 GATEDPATH 4=WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1;
?GATEDPATH 2=WIDE1-1; ?ReplaceDigiCalls ?? ?
You can put these back one at a time later once you see things start working the way you want.
?
?
Change these lines:
?DIGIMAP 4=IS,4
?DIGIMAP 2=2,IS ?
To this
?DIGIMAP 4=4, 2, IS??? ; if received on port 4, digi to port 4 & port 2, then to IS
?DIGIMAP 2=2, 4, IS?? ; if received on port 2, digi to port 2 & port 4, then to IS ?
?
See how much difference that makes, if any.? You can add back anything you believe is necessary after you have it working somewhat. But, add things back one at a time makeing sure each has the intended result.

Minimize BPQ to Tray Loses menu
I'm a new user of BPQ32 and apps on Win10. I've probably done something wrong but I find that sometimes when I minimize BPQ32 and apps to the system tray that I will lose the menu you get when you click on the icon in the tray. Many times it works fine. I can shutdown the BPQ stuff by closing the respective windows but it doesn't get rid of the icon in the system tray. I usually regain control by shutting down the BPQ32.exe in the Task Mgr Under the Apps section. Anyone see this? I tried searching the Groups.io forum and didn't see anything. I assume most people use LinBPQ instead of the Windows version so that may be a reason.
?
This is from the BPQ console:
There are no errors in the console when I have this issue. Is there anywhere else to look in the BPQ directory structure?

Thanks for the pointers. I confirmed that I can establish a successful outbound VARA HF connection via the ATT and C commands. It seems that the problem is just with inbound connections into the BBS over the VARA HF port.

BPQ32 APRS not Digipeating all packets.
Hello
?
I run BPQ32 APRS in various ports, port 2 is APRS and BBS 145.090 in the same channel, port 4 is APRS 144.390, port HF VARA HF etc.

I have noticed that in VHF port 2 & 4 not all packets are being Digipeating.? I see they are sent to IS but not via RF.
?
Is there a limitation or restrictions on packets that get Digi on the application?

Thanks

Re: BPQ VARA Modem Port Issue
One can also use an AGW client like easyterm with bpq's AGW emulator/server. From there you can connect to node 'SWITCH' and issue the C or ATT commands as needed. Latency I am not sure, but VARA can be CPU intensive. I have at least one 'intel' vm here that VARA will hang sometimes, cpu catches up some seconds later and packets come in bunched up after the delay. It was exacerbated when I tried to run it and WinRPR at the same time on my old i5 gaming notebook that I sometimes take in the truck when going mobile. So if you have something like 60-80% cpu used in VARA on the indicator it seems to be when it occurs here. I would probably test a few other modems with that latency issue. But also BPQ can do hamlib itself so you may not NEED to run rigctld and you may have better results with BPQs builtin version. That is a hard call because it is different depending on your radio hardware and you have to find what works the best for your set up. |
Re: BPQ VARA Modem Port Issue
Hello Gaston,
* I am able to connect using VARA HF to multiple Winlink RMS stations ? using Pat from both the BBS station as well as from my other client ? station that I have been using to access the BBS. This leads me to ? believe the VARA and the radios are correctly configured on both ? systems. What about connecting outbound from the BPQ node to either Winlink RMS stations or to anything at the far end via VARA HF?? One way would be to connect QtTermTCP to BPQ and try connecting out from there. Normally one connects QtTermTCP to BPQ using the "FBBPORT" value configured in the telnet port in bpq32.cfg. To manually connect outbound, you would first attach to the port, e.g. "ATT 1", then issue the connect command, e.g. "C CALL-10" where "CALL-10" is the station at the far end. That assumes the radio is already on the intended frequency and in the intended mode. 73, Lee K5DAT |

I am running VARA HF under WINE on Ubuntu, so that path would likely not work. I'll do some research and see how this should be specified given that VARA is installed under: /home/ham/.wine32/drive_c/VARA/VARA.exe.
?
I tailed /var/log/syslog on the LinBPQ station and see the following while attempting a connection:

I wonder if there may be an issue with latency in using hamlib. My rig control process is started as follows. This works fine with every other digital mode.

Re: BPQ VARA Modem Port Issue
This may not help, but try and allow BPQ to start your Vara Modem instance by adding PATH=xxxxxxxx to your ADDR configuration line. It could be a mismatch in the control port setting in BPQ (on that line) and your Vara Modem.
?
Any clues to it in the syslog?
