ELS conversion
开云体育Mike, ? If I had a QCGB I probably wouldn’t be looking at an ELS.? As others have said and in my case I routinely do metric threads as well as SAE.? Mostly telescopes stuff so metric but some of ?both. ? I also like a nice finish on my parts so prefer a final passes with slow feeds and light cuts.? An ELS should make that real easy vs a bunch of gears on the back of the lathe.? Mine is currently setup for 32 TPI (C-mount) but the part got interrupted by a shower head mount for the bathroom remodel.? I’m hand feeding rather than changing gears.? Is OK, there’ll be a chrome sleeve over the part I’m making, but with an ELS punch a few buttons and off to the races. ? I agree with you on the Water heater (if electric, maybe), tooth brush and a lot of the other WIFI enabled stuff.? Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should…? My electric car charger is “connected” and that’s (IMO) the best first step to a smart grid, which I do get…? The water heater could fit here too if electric, but not for a phone app. ? Greg |
开云体育If you are doing telescope work, I imagine you are doing thin wall work that really needs to be single point threaded. Makes sense. Everyone has different needs. It is always interesting learning what people use their tools to do. For me, ROI would be minimal, which is why I was curious. Thanks. On 1/24/2024 11:10 AM, Greg via

开云体育Mike,? Yes on thin wall (and relatively large diameters) like 0.75 or 1mm pitch on 42- 100 mm dia... Agree too, lots of different uses and needs. Greg Sent from my T-Mobile 5G Device |
I put a Clough42 ELS on my Atlas 618 a few years back.? I did not have a QCGB so for me it is a lot faster and easier to change feeds and gear pitches.? Also does both metric and imperial easily.? Being able to adjust the feed on the fly makes finding the sweet spot really easy.? And it was fun to do.? It is fully documented on the Atlas 618 forum "618 Restoration".? (sorry, can't figure out how to paste a link to it)
