Regardless of how you buy the backplate (by itself, or in the same box with a chuck), you still have to turn the backplate, to ensure true running ON YOUR lathe.?
So, it is not a big?deal to purchase the two separately.?

Actually, 1 1/2 x 8 is such a common size they actually do sell chucks with a backplate that is pre-threaded.
