Question/Help: Dishwasher

Hi, all,?

This question is going to come in two parts.?

1) Is there an appliance store in town that includes *installation* of dishwashers??

2) I have been told by a repairman (but not one that inspires confidence) that the reason the dishwashers fail is because I am not using the officially approved soap from Cascade (which is because Cascade doesn't offer a scent-free variety and my household includes folk with?epipen-worthy fragrance allergies). So I'd appreciate either options for scent-free dishwasher packets that are better than "Seventh Generation", or a dishwasher recommendation that can cope with cheap gritty soap packets?

And here's the vent.?

I know the?soap isn't the problem this time, because the start button is sticking and the repair dude said it needs a new circuit board,?which would?cost more than buying a new washer. I figure I might as well see if anyone has helpful thoughts for the other problem before I try to buy a new?one.?

I've had horrific experiences buying from several (most recently Menard's and Maytag direct, previously Lowe's and Home Depot), and my patience with this is well past its expiration date. I buy the?dishwasher, I add installation, they schedule?delivery, then they show up and say there is no installation in my area.? I've lived here 26 years, and have had to replace the dishwasher 5 times. I used to be able to arrange installation, but the last two times I've tried to buy a new dishwasher, I've run into problems with that part, and it's a huge HUGE hassle. I'm a person with disabilities, and they expect to leave the dishwasher in my driveway and have me sort it out later. I tried that once, and the second time I tried returning it to the warehouse (after which it took several MONTHS to be reimbursed).?

The dishwasher that needs a new circuit board is a Maytag that was purchased in February 2019 with a 10-year-warranty, but I don't know that I want to fight the battle to try to get them to honor the warranty. Honestly, right now, I'm so fed up with Maytag, I wouldn't be happy with a replacement if they gave it to me for free. However, my son and I both have disabilities that make it basically impossible for us to do dishes by hand, so I need to find a solution. I'm kind of at my wit's end. I've spent a lot of hours over the past year trying to find a solution.?

Thoughts? THANK YOU in advance!?

1.? i would recommend ajmadison.com? ?... they brought it [dishwasher] inside, insalled, took away the old ... my cousin uses them only ...many times.
2.? yeah ... not the soap ... maybe the switch, maybe the circuit board, bad dooe sensor ... try a can of circuit cleaner from hardware store ... spray the switch, spray the door sensor, clean soap scum from the door gasket.? probably wont help but may save $$$

1) I have used Big George's and most recently Heydlauff's to purchase appliances (Big George warehouse for the dishwasher). They both delivered and installed, but it was an extra fee.? I also bought a fridge at Costco, they installed it without an extra charge. All of them took the old ones away.

I have had Bosch, Kenmore and I have a Miele now.? I love the Miele, though it's a bit more pricey.

I never heard the excuse of the dishsoap being the wrong kind. I do feel like ALL appliances don't last as long as they used to even though they are pricier, so I have started getting the extended warranties now, which makes me mad that I have to do it, but I did get a new free washer out of it a few years ago, when my Maytag failed after about 6 years, I had bought it from ABC Warehouse and they gave me a new one when it would be more to fix the old one. I had to get a new compressor on my fridge after 2 1/2 years (LG), luckily it was under warranty also so fixed for free, but I had to wait a week so all the food got ruined, ugh.

Heylaudff Service department is the old Mastertech, they bought them out and became their service department, so they are good.

First,? If you are under Warranty, I wouldn't give up so quick.? Appliances are not cheap!

Not sure about Big George, but I would 2nd Heydlauff's.? They were always reputable.? Otto (retired?) was their repair guy but only serviced machines they sold.??
They have since bought out "Master Tech Appliance Service"? (734) 662-0641 and are out and about.
I recently had a Bosch Dishwasher repaired.? Ask them to send John to come out for your service, he knows what he is doing!

I've seen that but also noted that despite calling it "free & clear" Cascade does say that it's lemon-scented.

REPLY: Unfortunately this is not scent free. We've already tried it. I repeat, I have an a epi-pen worthy fragrance allergy. Fragrance-light just means I'll only get somewhat?sick. I don't want to get sick each time I have to do dishes. I sometimes have anaphylaxis while riding the bus from folk wearing scents, and earlier this week while walking the dog. Someone with heavy perfume parked near where we were walking and opened their car door. I never even saw them. I was 2 blocks from home, and it took me an hour to get home. I had to sit down for a long time before I could walk again. The reaction lasted through the next day.I've always felt safe outdoors. Not so much now. Honestly, if anyone uses dishwasher pods that are truly unscented and they like them, would you please give me a single sample to try? I hate buying a pack of 40, 60, 80, 120 and not being able to use them.?

Have you tried Seventh Generation Free & Clear dishwasher detergent?

I've never used these, but Deirdre and I use the box of powder version (not the packs) and were happy with them, although neither of us have fragrance allergies.? We buy the powder at Arbor Farms Market on Stadium in Ann Arbor, although I don't remember if they also sell the pods there or not.

I used to own a Miele dishwasher and was very happy with it.? It never broke in the 12 years I had it until I moved out, unlike GE dishwashers where I went through 2 repairs and 1 replacement in the four years before that.

* Dishwasher Repair Recommendations (for our stuck start button)

1) Heydlauff's Service department is the old "Master Tech Appliance Service" ?(734) 662-0641 .? Ask them to send John.
2) Try a can of circuit cleaner from the hardware store. Spray the switch and the door sensor. Clean soap scum from the door gasket.?
3) Power surges or drops may cause dishwasher failures. Check with DTE. Homeowners insurance may provide a free Ting device, which will report on low voltage events. State Farm offered a free Ting device

* Dishwasher Recommendations

Bosch - 3
Kenmore - 1
Miele - 1
And, yes, some had good experiences with their Maytag (I had a Kenmore twice before the Maytag.)

Cascade Free & Clear ActionPacs?

It may also be available other ways through other insurance companies,
but that's what I know.

So I'd appreciate either options for scent-free dishwasher packets that are better than "Seventh Generation", or a dishwasher recommendation that can cope with cheap gritty soap packets?

> I've had horrific experiences buying from several (most recently Menard's and Maytag direct, previously Lowe's and Home Depot), and my patience with this is well past its expiration date. I buy the dishwasher, I add installation, they schedule delivery, then they show up and say there is no installation in my area.? I've lived here 26 years, and have had to replace the dishwasher 5 times. I used to be able to arrange installation, but the last two times I've tried to buy a new dishwasher, I've run into problems with that part, and it's a huge HUGE hassle. I'm a person with disabilities, and they expect to leave the dishwasher in my driveway and have me sort it out later. I tried that once, and the second time I tried returning it to the warehouse (after which it took several MONTHS to be reimbursed).

Honestly, right now, I'm so fed up with Maytag, I wouldn't be happy with a replacement if they gave it to me for free. However, my son and I both have disabilities that make it basically impossible for us to do dishes by hand, so I need to find a solution. I'm kind of at my wit's end. I've spent a lot of hours over the past year trying to find a solution.
