Helium Tank car
4
I have up loaded a photo of an actual Helium Tank car either being load or unloaded. There has been some discussion on some of the modeler groups about these cars lately. I thought it might be of some interest to the group if you are using one of these cars. Michael Bishop

Roco #2261 Gulf tank car
5
In collecting some more cars I have found that there is a style difference between the #2261 Gulf tank car and the other tank cars in the group. On the Gulf car there is no railing around the dome only a ladder up to the dome, on all the other cars in this group from Roco there is a railing. Michael Bishop

old bachmann N&W J 4-8-4 (pre spectrum)
hi all i realise this is not an atlas nor first generation but i hope it doesn't stretch the rules too much. please reply to me privately so that the friendship isn't stretched too far. i am wondering if anyone has one or even two N&W J locos they don't need and would be willing to part with? i imagine they would be just about inoperable now due to split gears, but i am only after them for the 10mm driving wheels so junk condition is fine. as long as the driving wheels are there and in good nick, nothing else matters. these locos hailed from 1988, coming in either the bachmann 'white box' of the era or a larger 'limited edition' yellow box with a cover flap. regards, benjamin

E-R Models Helium Tank Car Reissues
Hi gang, I've been quiet on the A1G front but as long as I was in here deleting the SPAM message, I thought I'd let you know that I've acquired the three E-R Models reissues of the A1G Helium Tank Car. I've photographed and posted these three roadnames- U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Air Service and Atomic Energy Commission-- on the page with the A1G Helium Tank Cars. These roadnames duplicated three of the four original roadnames, but they do carry different road numbers. Like the A1G cars in this series, they were manufactured by Roco. More E-R News to come... Cheers, George (your webmaster)

A couple of questions and looking for parts.
What type of controller did the uncoupler ramp have to start out with? I just bought one that came in the blister pack and it has a newer slide controller in the packaging. Second question, I noticed in the 1972 catalog there was a Vermont Railway boxcar listed #2207. Did Atlas ever come out with this one? I know that they had one in the car kit line and a repeat in the 2nd generation line, but this car follows in the Roco body style car list. Last,I am looking for some Roco wheel sets, the dark metal ones, they can be runners. I have a project I am working on and yes, "there is madness to my reasoning". Thanks for any help. Center Flow question
2
This last weekend I was at a model train swap meet and found and bought a September 1967 catalog. It lists a #2323 PROFAX GAS car, this number was used by 1969 for the GULF car. Was there ever a PROFAX GAS car? The #2322 car for Hercules is listed and so is #2321 Shippers Car Line. It also list Jumbo Tank Cars; #2246 Shippers Car Line (which they did release), #2347 Burlington and #2348 C&NW. I do not think that the latter two road names ever came out! Michael Bishop

A1G Speical run cars?

During the A1G time period did Atlas ever do any "Special Run cars"? I know that Bachmann and Con-Cor did a few. Michael Bishop

Variation on the Viaduct kit
I have found that there is a variation between the first release (white box) and the second release (orange box) of the Viaduct kit. The first release is dark brown in color with randomed cut stones and has evenly spaced cut out to the guard rail stone work. The second release is a light white to gray color with even cut and has a solid stone work along the top. Michael Bishop

October 2012 RMC: '1975 Atlas N Scale'
The October 2012 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman includes as its "Collector Consist" column a piece by Keith Wills called "1975 Atlas N Scale". Beginning with a quick look at the state of N Scale before Atlas, Wills then discusses a few of what we know as A1G products, including the difference in design and detail of several of the A1G steam locomotives. He also says, "What is remarkable is the extensive variety of rolling stock offered...". I've sent an e-mail to the editor of RMC via their website about the A1G website; hopefully that will be published in their letters column. (If anyone else would like to bring us to their attention-- feel free!) Meanwhile, have a look at the October 2012 RMC-- it's nice to see the contributions of the Atlas First Generation recognized as the stepping stone it was to what we have today in N Scale. intro and query about atlas roco locos
4
hi and thanks to the moderator for approving my request to join the group. i am interested in some of the older roco atlas GPs for scratchbuilding purposes. i note that other european roco N electric and diesel locos have a 1.5mm axle and that gears can either be red or white. i am wondering whether the whole range of atlas roco and european roco all used the same 1.5mm axle? or did they vary axle diameters as they did the gears? many thanks in advance ben

What happened to those helium cars...
2
This prototype image was posted to Railpictures.net. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=396049&nseq=14 Take a look at the last visible car in the train. Something to model with two A1G helium cars for which you can't find the trucks? George (your list owner)
