Atlas bridges
3
What year did Atlas bring out their three snap track bridges? And in the 1969 catalog they list several types of street lights; did they ever bring those out? I had some lights that were like them, but they were not from Atlas. Michael Bishop

2304 Variations
3
Hi, everybody, As a result of looking at my examples of this car because of a thread on the Atlas forum, I discovered two obvious variations. Actually, I have known about one of them (black ends on some) for a long time but put off writing anything about it so I include it now. I hope the scans show up soon in the miscelaneous folder of the photo section. I know images have to be approved now and George has been busy. Doug

Atlas Models - structures

I always had the feeling these structures were based on European prototypes - am I off base thinking that? Mark

Why pictures Mike?
3
goldrod_1 uploaded some pics a week ago but I see no commentary on them. As well as the reason, some much large originals would be nice to see some of the buildings details. Damn I'd by both of those now... (for a proposed layout) and probably create a similar footprint to swap out the stations for era changes... cheers dave

Back to the Future:
Atlas/Trainman is releasing their Centerflow in the Gulf paint scheme, very close to the one they did in the 60's. The new car will have three road numbers. Michael Bishop

Another 2281 Variation
7
I stumbled onto this in a "used" train shop - it appears to be yet another variation: http://tinypic.com/r/9ro8z5/7 http://tinypic.com/r/vwv4hu/7 Interesting eh? "Tan" bulheads and deck. Gotta love the spartan packaging with the plastic "retainers" (this the "3" on them). Mark

Back to the Future: Atlas' New Therm Ice Plug Door Boxcar
3
The October 2010 pre-order announcements from Atlas contains one car that is, for us A1G fans, a trip "back to the future." Catalog numbers 33011 and 33012 are forty foot plug door boxcars painted for "Therm Ice" dry ice. Therm Ice was one of the paint schemes on the A1G forty foot plug door boxcars (Catalog 2223). The artwork shown in the Atlas 4th Quarter 2010 Catalog is similar to that on the A1G release from so many years ago, but as you'd expect the printing will be more complete and much more finely executed. (For example, the "When Empty Return To..." box on the new model is just an outline box on the A1G car.) The new cars will have reporting marks of TICX 8901 and 8907; the A1G car carried TICX 8903. The prototype series was numbered TICX 8900 to 8920 according to the Official Railway Equipment Register for January 1964. The cars were registered to National Car Company. They were less tall than the Atlas model (either one) with an extreme height of 13 feet 10 inches. I do recall seeing a prototype photo somewhere but I can't recall where at this writing. The real Therm Ice dry cars occassionally showed up in the Harismus Cove yard of the Pennsylvania Railroad, not far from my boyhood home in Jersey City. That makes the release "back to the future" for more sentimental reasons than just being a throwback of sorts to A1G. Cheers, George (Your list owner)

Pig Palace Upgrades...
3
A post "on another network" regarding the 85 foot stock cars aka the "Pig Palace" cars had me thinking: Has anyone modified these cars for one reason or another? The most I've seen is the swap of the original trucks for Micro-Trains, the extended draft gear of course. Cheers, George (your list owner, shamelessly trying to start a little traffic here)

A1G Stories was: Recent spam mail on A1G
Don't sweat it Rick; likeI said I had to block my nephew for the exact same message. Thank you for acknowledging the issue! As for A1G cars; suprisiongly there are a number of events where strange things turn up over here. A buddy recently landed several 33,000 tank cars (the yello scheme ones I believe) and my personal hunting choice is Bay Window cabeese. I'm not taking by the Micro-Trains version (the apparent necessity to support toy-train operations making them too high) and would rather get older Atlas models and detail them out. When I have enough of a glut I'll even try my hand at blanking windows and un-roofwalking them! Other than that I am going to pay attention to reasonable priced transition era cars from now on too (I am predominanttly a "modern" guy) since I want to have some retro sessions. The season is just warming up, so hopefully I'll get lucky... -- Dennis C. Kamper dckuk@... ---- guitarrick_c1812 <guitarrick_c1812@...> wrote:

Recent spam mail on A1G
2
To everyone here on A1G, I want to apologize for the recent spam mail that was coming from my old e-mail address ( guitarrick @ hotmail . com) that everyone here probably received. Over the past couple of years I had this problem with hotmail causing me to change accounts twice. So to combat whom ever is getting inside the hotmail accounts I decided to drop using it all together and go with someone completely different. Though I still wanted to use my old name I beefed it up a little. I also strengthen up the password (and all new too) to make it hopefully harder to crack........ on another note: Since moving here to the Phoenix area makes it a little harder to collect A1G cars. Theirs only 2 places for swapmeets that both have them twice a year. The problem is the private vendors bring out the same stuff all the time. Unlike living in Southern California. So it's off to places like ebay, N scale Supply or places like N Scale Yard Sale. Have to get a little more creative then I like but sure miss going to the good ol' swapmeets in SoCal were I could see everything before making any purchases. So what kind of stories does anyone one have on collecting Atlas 1st Generation cars? Rick

A1G Structures

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I stumbled onto this today: http://rossfink.com/Atlas%20First%20Generation%20Building%20Kits It's from Ross Fink (the same guy with the A1G kits page) http://a1gkits.rossfink.com Great trip down memory lane! Many of these kits are currently marketed by Model Power and/or Faller (Faller bought out Pola, the original maker of these kits IIRC). Thanks Ross! Mark
