Atlas #2303 variations 5
I have two very different versions of the #2303 New York Central reefer. Both cars are yellow with a green stripe, white lettering and silver roof and ends. The differences are several. Both boxes are labeled differently. Car 1000's box says N.Y.C. 50FT Mech. Reefer while car 1020 says New York Cen. 50' Mechan. Reefer. The cars themselves have variations. (warning, this can be confusing!) The yellow carbody on car 1000 is a duller yellow than car 1020. The green stripe on car 1000 is wider than the stripe on car 1020. The lettering on car 1000 has the lettering to the left of the door crowded together and lettering on the right spaced for the ribs while car 1020 has spaced out lettering to the left of the door (but not spaced for the ribs), lettering to the right is not spaced at all for the ribs. I will try to scan both of these cars and post them to the group once I get the scanner rigged up again. After reading what Mr. Irwin has on his website about this car, I found both cars and compared them and found differences and figured most here would like to know. Edward Bridges Granger, TX

Photos of 2303 variations posted 2
I have posted a picture of the two different variations of the 2303 NYC refrigerator car, car numbers 1000 and 1020 in the photos section. I took several different pictures of both cars and will send some to George Irwin shortly for potential use on the website. I hope this helps show the differecnes in the two paint schemes. HEADS UP **94 foot tank cars on ebay**
I just looked at ebay and ALL FOUR of the 94 foot super tank cars are listed for auction, all starting at $4.99. Too bad I have curtailed my ebay buying because of some local swap meets coming up. Maybe someone on this list can win them. Thought the group would like to know. Edward Bridges Granger, TX

Question about A1G #2260 series tank cars 2
I was wondering about something I have noticed about some of the single dome chemical tank cars. I own cars #2261 (Gulf), #2262 (Frontier) and #2264a (General American). The only mechanical difference between the three I have is that #2261 (Gulf) has different ladders thant he other two. The other two cars have a ladder with railings above the simulated running board on the side of the tank car while the Gulf car doesn't have the railings, it only has a ladder. Is this the way all the #2261 cars originally came or is it a variation? My 2261 looks just like the one shown on George Irwin's web site. Just curious. Any explanation would be appreciated. My A1G car list...... 7
Hi everyone, I finally buckled down and got my A1G cars together and made a listing to send out here on the A1G user group mailer. The list reads as follows........Atlas manufacturer number, Roadname, type of car roadnumber and added description were needed, so here it goes........... 1. #2381a PC 40' single door steel boxcar RD#65420 (this is a car kit) 2. #2287a IC 40' double door steel boxcar RD#41677 (orange color car) 3. #2287b IC 40' double door steel boxcar RD#41877 (brown color car) 4. #2231 NS 40' composite gondola RD#NS 7700 (also know as outside braced) 5. #2232 RDG 40' composite gondola RD#1800 ( " " ) 6. #2233 MON 40' composite gondola RD#2020 7. #2314 CB&Q 47' centerflow covered hopper RD#85117 8. #2342 N&W center depressed flatcar RD#?????? (no roadnumber on car) 9. #2281a SP 40' steel flat with bulkheads RD# NW 5373 (N&W reporting marks) 10.#2351 PRR 50' flat with 2 "Acme" trailers RD#30259 11.#2352 ATSF 50' flat with 2 "Republic" trailers RD#90000 12.#2271b ATSF off center cupola caboose RD#1951 I will post later in the future upon finding more A1G cars as I find them to share with everyone. I made one fatal error back in 1984. I had a whole slew of A!G cars that I bought in the 60's when I was in grade school. They were all in original condition in their correct cases. I decided for some strange reason to give up on N scale back in "84" to get married. (Love has a way to screw with your mind????) I sold off everything I had to another N scaler who was just starting off. By 1989, I got back into the hobby with a fever and haven't looked back since.I sure wish now that I had those cars I sold back in "84". I didn't need to sell those A1G cars as my wife doesn't have a problem with my "railroad addiction" and she fully supports it. A word to the wise, if you ever get tried or just want to get out of the hobby for a while, please do this.......... Box everthing up and store it away or have a family member save it for you. Then you'll never be in the position that I am as wishing to have something you lost in the past........... (I was the original owner of those original cars...................oh well) Rick P.S. George if you happen to read this, what do you think of adding passenger cars to the A1G list? These do fall under the catagory of "rollingstock" and Atlas did have some during their A1G period. I can remember ATSF, PRR and B&O passenger cars that were made to go with their E7&8 locos........ More A1Gs on that internet auction community
The seller "alana-rose" just put up on eBay some group lots of A1Gs including the large cars... 94 foot tankers, auto racks, hi-cube box and stock cars. Listed as MIB and with boxes according to the pics. Low opening bids in groups but $7.50 shipping (yikes). You could search on "Atlas Set" or the seller name and the listings should come up. In case anyone's interested, no affiliation, yada yada. --Your list-owner

The 2303 (NYMX Refrigerator)... 3
Interesting that after being apparently unseen (at least to your humble list-owner), there seem to be 2303b variations coming out of the woodwork. As you may know, I picked up a copy on that Internet Auction Community last week and it's been added to the A1G Accumulation. (Thanks to those who didn't "compete" for it.) And a second one sold last night as well. Counting the one Edward acquired that's three in the last month or so... after I hadn't seen any for who knows how long. Or is it that I simply wasn't looking... ?!? --Your list-owner

Trucks color
All this talk recently has stimulated yet another remembrance. The earliest releases of the A1G cars had trucks that were a kind of grayish black. Tha cars I have that I bought in late 1967 and were packaged in the boxes that had the clear plastic spacers (no blue cradle or paper insert) and the label on the end of the box all had trucks that were the gray-black color. Later (not THAT much later....1968) The trucks were molded in plastic that was really black. So, my 2303b arrived today and it has black wheels with the smaller insulaters and black trucks. To me, this places the manufacture at sometime in 1968. Doug

Hello, I've been reading some of the discussion from the accumulators and thought I'd go below and look in some of my old boxes. I'd asked George about the 5" boxed cars earlier. I've quite a few of the locos on Edwards list and found a 2101, MIB and a 2180 runner (RIB)) As far as the 5" boxes, I've got examples of 5101-129 Kit unbuilt, (UB), & 5101-129 RIB, 5102-129 UB, 5104-129 UB and 5104-129 RIB and 5272-129 RIB. Most boxes are in excellent condition and a few have notations on the box, Also found my first N Scale loco, 0-6-0 (may 71 purchase), but no box to go with it. I think the -129 of the number was the price of the kit. Carl Eisemann Cumberland River & Eastern

Progress on my "accumulation" 10
Things are moving right along with my accumulation of A1G equipment. I thought I would post a new listing of my current accumulation (locomotives, freight equipment and passenger equipment). The majority of what I have is in original boxes (as noted). All of this equipment is in very good to perfect unused condition. If you have parts that could help the condition of my accumulation, email me off list. I would be willing to purchase parts. I do have some extra cars (mostly without boxes), which I will post for sale or trade here once I finally get all the stuff I have coming in hand. (This list does NOT include cars in transit). I am also looking for cars I currently do not have listed here. Willing to pay fair price for boxed equipment or equipment in excellent shape without boxes (I can find boxes for them). My girlfriend keeps ribbing me about becoming a "collector" with this stuff. Not exactly a collector per se, I like to think of myself as an accumulator. To each their own I guess. (I do not run the stuff in my A1G accumulation). I merely want to preserve a piece of the history of N Scale. Edward Bridges AustNtrak member: Austin, TX Granger, TX

New photos posted
I have posted pictures of the variations of 2311, 2312 and 2351 A1G cars. I hope these are of some help. I tried to get as close as I could to the ACME trailers but it didn't turn out like I wanted. I will point out more differences as I find them as I have more cars coming in, some duplicate what I already have. Edward Bridges Granger, TX

Corner stirrups 2
I have thought of yet another thing to look for on the Roco built A1G cars (you guys sick of this yet)? On cars that have corner stirrups on them, some of the stirrups may be missing. In one case they may have been broken off. In another case, they may have never been there to begin with due to incomplete molding. The way to tell is that if they were broken off, there will be a pretty obvious breaking point and the plastic color of the shell will show. If they were never molded, there may be partial stubs where they're supposed to be or maybe none at all. There won't be any clear lines from breaking and the shell paint color will cover where the stirrups are supposed to be. So, a car can be MIB or LNIB and have missing stirrups. Doug

85' stock cars on "that auction site"
There are three of the 4 85' stock cars listed on that "auction site". All except the Northern Pacific car are listed. I will not be bidding on this trio as I own all four of the 85' stock cars from a previous auction. Thought I would let the group know as some are probably looking for these. What does the printing say around tht Acme logo? 3
Hi, I got the flat with the Acme trailers on it but have been trying to read what the printing says going around the Acme logo. I've been meaning to look for the Athearn (HO) flat kit with the Acme trailers to see what that small print actually says. If anyone should know that answer and/or can decifer the printing, would you please tell me what it says..... Roco truck pins 4
God, will this never end? :>) On the early Roco cars, the truck pins had heads that were flat across and had a fairly sharp rim on them (unlike some other manufacturers' cars that had almost round headed pins). Later on ('70s?) they had a dimple in the middle of the head. I am going to check my cars further ,though, to see if there was intermixing in the later cars. But, the early ones all had flat heads. Photo posted of odd packaging for 2234 6
I have posted a photo of the packaging I have for 2234 (Cotton Belt gondola). I believe this car was repackaged by its previous owner as the box looks very much like the boxes my WDT switchers came in. All of the Roco manufactured cars I have that are in boxes do not have thwe rounded edge of the lid this box has. Sometime down the road I will come up with the right box for this car if this is indeed the wrong one. here is no tape residue or label on the box anywhere. Edward Bridges Granger, TX

A1G factory repaints???
I picked up a 2273, PRR caboose MIB recently, which is sort of interesting. Although the car is factory painted PRR, you can see patches of red paint in places where the carbody wasn't painted brown very well and you can clearly read B&O lettering in places as well as see the B&O herald. Is this a common thing with A1G equipment. I once had an Atlas Alco FA-1 that was factory painted Wabash, but was painted over Rock Island (I think, I no longer own the locomotive, just remember it). Any knowledge of this practice would be greatly appreciated. I will post a picture of this odd car as time permits (I work a lot of overtime this week!). Edward Bridges Granger, TX
