I guess what I should have said by normal is normal for Mehano and their
spotty production and QA. I doubt that the worm is actually worn that much on
the end instead of it just being molded imperfectly.

It still shouldn't really cause a problem, however, as long as the worm can
rotate freely against the washer(s). What particular problem are you
having?
