rail. But beware when using hand laid track: we have experienced severe warping of the rails during temperature extremes (especially direct sun, like when transporting, set ups, back yard work). With the rails anchored every 1"/2.5cm and only glued wood ties inserted between, the rail goes out of gauge permanently if there is enough thermal expansion (a few MINUTES in the sun has killed one module). Flex track and common sectional has enough gaps and also 'slop' in the bonding of the rail to the ties/sleepers to let it give a bit more but hey, it sure will look better with 0-40 ! Well I have finally decided to build a ZBend moduleWelcome to the world of Z-Bend Track... Anyway the reason why I post is want to lay my own track out of 40thouThe "standard" does not prohibit hand laid track. But not all modeler's have the same skills or quality control. So the "manual" simply says: Hand-laid track can be used if the owner¡¯s skill permits and the owner can demonstrate to others that the track gauge and flange clearances are correct prior to public displays. Hope this answers the question. Bill K. Houston [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Welcome back Bill
Loren Snyder
Hi Bill,
Everyone, including me is so glad to hear you are back in the saddle again.. .(where else but Texas could you say that)? Gee whiz Bill, if you were lonely and wanted attention, you didn't need to go through all that.........I'd have been glad to come over and go to Wendy s with you for a burger. All you had to do was pick up the phone and call me. I never have anything to do anyway....... <wink> Seriously, you have been through a lot lately and now that the storm season is almost over, maybe you can relax a bit and enjoy life again. Of course I know you must be a mile and a half behind in your order filling. I had sent you an email asking for a power harness, but if you are swamped, go ahead and put me on the back burner. I've hooked up my end module harness and I am very impressed with your work. You sure give a great deal to us folks and I thank you for allowing me to not have to go through all that wiring myself. I'll leave it to the experts.....you!! Once again, so glad to hear you are causing mayhem again along with the rest of us. We need all the mayhem makers we can get!! Best to you Bill, Loren |
The thinning out and the sale has begun
John Bartolotto
All,
The thinning out and the sale has begun of most of my Z scale collection on that un-mentionable web site under Z scale > Marklin. I am thinning out my collection because I am modeling the 1880-1890s and these items don't fit my new layout era. Something for everyone! Enjoy. John |
Re: Bill K and crew heading north
Hi,
I addmittedly don't know you all, but Bil K. and family, I can accomidate ya'll here, Sue kids and all. I'd be a tight fit, but safe, secure, and stable, and lots of Z. You're welcome in CT, you can buy the food and cook, I have a feeling that's all that would make ya'll feel at home, my kitchen is your's. Sue can feel free to correct me that ya'll is 2 words, not one here, but Bill, you can still have a safe place for yourself and your family. I actually tried to call you tonight out of concern, seriously, but couldn't get through. Michael Hilliard 39 Old Huckleberry Rd. Digital Block Control System for sale - up to 99 trains
KLWZscale
I have FOR SALE a Digital Block Control System from Signal Research -
I did not want to modify my locos for DCC and researched several other options and found the Signal Research RoadMaster System to be a perfect match. Very easy to set up and operate up to 99 locos at once. I am no longer modeling or running trains as my family has grown and my train room cleared out. I therefore have for sale my like new RoadMaster System. If you are interested please review the Signal Research web site at www.signalresearch.com/ . I have also created a personal website with FAQ's on how to set up for the layout I had (This site is also linked from Signal Research's site.) and Layout1/originalklwzscaa.html . Here is a link to a movie of three trains running at once on the RM system: I will sell for 70% of the new asking price than what Signal Research is selling them for today (much below what I purchased it for) + shipping via UPS insured and tracked (~$30 do to weight and pakcing materials needed). Roadmaster Train Controller with Deluxe High Visibility LCD Display, 8-Block System with Power supply - RTC-D Block Expansion Module, Adds 8 Additional Blocks - BEM For a total of 16 blocks Main controller will include the wood box I have mounted the controller in (review the photos on my site to see the box and photos of they system). There is room on the panel to add your switches or just a schematic of your layout. In addition you can purchase the signal module (from SR) and install two/three way working signals on your layout that will automatically change condition based on the block your trains are in. If you have questions please email me at (remove spaces): k l w e b b @ p o b o x . c o m If you purchase I will help you program the system based on your layout. keith |

neutral place...maybe on the beach in Tahiti? <smile> Dear Bill: That's a great idea. What a perfect place to hold a convention. Randy - if they do not have trains, and I am sure they do not, just buses, then we will all bring our own. I can see the Headlines - Trains descend upon calm peaceful Pacific Island of Tahiti. Diesel fumes, coal smoke, and hot steam invade the idyllic islands of Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Moorea. I can't wait to go, and I have always wanted to go there. Is there a convention hotel lined up yet? My wife is finally willing to go to a train convention. 2007???? dave h. |

Wow Bill, That's great news!
I can't afford to go to a convention in Tahiti (do they even have trains there?), but if anyone from overseas wants to come to the NTS2006 in Philadelphia (with or without modules) please let me know. I know in years past we have had guests from Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Canada.
