David Lancaster

Probably the first one home. Who knows? And a great time was had by
all! What a wonderful group of people! We must really keep in touch.
I think we made an impression on the NMRA people. Another from this
group said that usually the NMRA doesn't like Z scale. Now they (the
NMRA) are pleading to have more Z scale! With the modules and the
separate layouts, Z scale was well represented. Other scale modelers
were also impressed with all the Z.
I'm just happy to contribute and be a part of this great group!

Website Changes

I have made some changes to my website and would like some opinions on
it. I have added background images and a Railroad Photo Library for
people to share their personal railroad photos or layout photos.
Please take a look at it and leave a note in the Questbook. Please
don't be rude, everyone can read the questbook. If there is something
you need to tell me please email me, don't put it in the questbook.

I also made some changes in the Z scale area. I changed the product
descriptions, I got a few complaints that they were confusing. Also
the 3-N-1 Tool now has a standard Center to Center Spacing of
1" instead of 1 1/4". I made some changes to the checkout to make
it easy to configure the Center to Center Spacing's at checkout.

I did the same thing for the N Scale 3-N-1 Tool except it still has
a standard 1 1/4" CTC Spacing.

offering them in kit form and as assembled harnesses. All the
soldering was done by professionals and the wire is color coded and
matched to the module harness kits. We are offering 4 different types.

Modules for 2008 NTS

Lajos had made these pdf files for you guys to play with.

Samples for using Lajos cut out paper modules on the two different
sized scale grids. Some of you with CAD knowledge can use a cad
program. Others can use magnets on steel sheets. Shlubs like me use
paper cut outs and a lot of cuss words.

Look at these two pdf files for inspiration:

1. plan28x40 Trial set up of modules for 28x40 ft space.

2. plan30x30 Trial set up of modules for 30x30 ft space.

For the pdf files go to:

For the cut outs go here:

Anaheim 08 puzzle

4 pdf files that Lajos has set up for any of you to arrange 2008
modules to fit in the two spaces available.

pdf files 1 and 2 are scale size module pieces that can be cut out and
arraigned on the two scale space grids.

The next two pdf files are scale grids for placing the cut out pieces
from the first 2 files.

go to:

The modules with * on the center are core modules. They are under
construction and we have not heard if they are nearing completion.

The modules with ** are also being updated or worked on.

The modules drawn connected are made to be used as a unit.

The end of the module with the short center line is the end that will
be connected to the next module.

Those of you who recognize their module please notify Lajos when each
one is completed and can be put into operation on July 18th.

Also if you know that your module will not be ready please let Lajos know.

I hope that all of this makes some sense to you.

I still have my original space which I had sent in registration for in Dec.07.
The "G ~ B & C C R.R. " welcomes all Z Heads in the area to bring their rolling stock and locos to run on any of the 8 tracks in operation during the show.
Its a big layout so come on down and join in the fun of running your trains !

Re: Need all the help possible, I've failed

Randall Smidt

FYI - I posted this to the Z_NTS yahoogroup, but am cross-posting here to try to spread a little better news.

OK, I have emailed and played phone tag with Tom Draper, the NTS Chairman, as well as Lajos. Looks like we can probably get two separate spaces (unfortunately, not very close together) of 30'x30' and 28'x40'. I told them we would take and work from there. Spoke with Lajos last night about redesigning the display(s). I also emphasized to the NTS folks that since about 2/3 of the display is somewhat local, you might be able to rapidly respond to any changes in the space (like if vendors cancel, which seems to happen at every show). Not ideal, but at least it's a foot in the door.

David George did send his application in separately (and very early, one of the first in) so his space is being counted separately from anything we get.

I know a few others are trying to work some other angles as well. I have found in years past that it is much more effective to emphasize how we can work with them and support them (even if they do make the registration process more convoluted than any other show I've ever been involved with) for the good of the hobby as a whole than to bring up the "Z get's no respect angle." Z scale has already proven itself previously at NTS and the NTS staff is generally more accepting of Z scale than other parts of NMRA. In other words, if you want to get ahead, you have to be diplomatic and play their game.

Welcome to the world of cat herding.

I'll update as we get more info.

I'll put this bug out there now as well. We should enter as many modules as possible into the module contest. The paperwork has to be turned in very early (almost as you walk in the door on Thursday since judging is on Friday morning). Just from photos I've seen, I think at least a half a dozen of the modules are contenders for winning top honors. I think you have to be an NMRA member to enter, so if you want to enter, but are not a member, consider joining before NTS. Change from within.

Keep the faith.

Randy
