? Well, getting anything straight out of Chase was probably unlikely. She was suspicious of the woman laying on the cot in the sheriff's office. Callie gave a deep sigh and walked over to Etienne, standing over her on the cot.

? ?"So I'll ask you, who are you and why are you here?" the redhead wanted to know.

Continuing to keep the waking world at a comfortable distance, Flynn immersed himself in his dream construction, letting the glamour gather about him, replenishing his depleted resources.? At the same time, he contemplated the difficulties of the situation he and the others were in.? The mob howling outside the sheriff's office and clawing at the door didn't worry him all that much. The people with him inside the office had already proven that they were more than capable of protecting themselves, though the town itself being steadily decimated in the process.? The real problem was how were they going to get to Miller's Crossing with their path being constantly blocked or misdirected by some arcane means by party or parties unknown.

Ordinarily the pookah would simply have opened a portal that could allow them to travel directly to the Crossing. But in order to do that, he would have had to have actually been there at least once, which he never had.? Failing that, he might have been able to create a portal if he had a photo or a painting or even a good hand drawing of the scene, but it was unlikely that a place like Miller's Crossing had ever been deemed worth the effort of any of those things.

He hoped one of the others could come up with something and would wake him if and when they did.? Staying put amid howling possessed townfolk without a source of unbespelled water was not attractive as an option.

Chase seemed to be skirting around the issue, suddenly talking about demons, witches, etc.? Who the hell cared about Flynn changing into a horse?? At this point, it was obvious that none of them were alien to the things that went bump into the night.? Not Callie whose partner was a shapeshifting "medicine man."? Not himself who had seen one too many demons, half of them being his bounties whose numerous rewards he has collected by sending back into whatever hell that birthed them.? He was quite sure that Chase wasn't a greenhorn himself, the way his eyes looked into back at Sicilien's in that brief moment when they were surrounded.? He'd bet a shiny gold bar that the guardian of this mysterious woman hid a beast of his own underneath that burnished skin.

When Callie stood up and confronted the female enigma, he snorted in response, quickly turning it into a snore.? This oughta to be good, he told himself, as he waited to see what would happen next.? He couldn't resist the drama brewing, even at the behest of himself.

Chase was watching this group as he moved to get dressed again.? He hated shredding his clothes when he changed.? It was something about going through the process.? He was moving through to get dress and moved to try to scavenge the rest of what was available.? He moved around but still kept his eye on Etienne to make sure she didn’t rabbit yet again.

He didn’t want to kidnap her but she was right and they needed her to get where they needed to go to make this truly some type of situation that they needed all of them in order to be free of what ever fresh hell this was turning out to be.

He knew there was something different about the rest of his companions for sure.? Particularly the one called Flynn.? He wasn’t sure he felt any more comfort at revealing what he was but he knew it was going to come up and out eventually.?

“Are we ready for transport?”? He asked as he was definitely looking for the opportunity to get them out of the city and to their destination quickly.
