Sam could feel the cold chill slowly, but surely start to take over her room. The fire was even starting to dim and she was starting to feel the the cold through her heavy clothing. ¡°I don¡¯t think Jaimie will come to help me. He and I, well, we had words and I think I might have offended him as much as he offended me. Maybe find Braxton? He said he was going to get us something to eat. Maybe he¡¯s in the ?kitchen.¡±
?
(Callum)?
?
"Braxton?? Your friend from the states?"? Callum frowned.? He was reluctant to expose himself to more of the visitors than he absolutely had to, but this situation might call for it.? "Ah'll check the kitchen and see what ah can find."
?
When he got to the kitchen, the laird could hear a loud banging from from the pantry.? Which he noted had been locked.? From the outside.? "Dammitall, Jaimie," he muttered.? "What were ye thinking?"? Had it been Kirstene behind it, he reasoned, the consequences would've been more dire.
?
Callum hesitated.? It wouldn't do to have the American see him when in such an agitated state.? Concentrating, he slid the latch on the door back and then let it swing up from the pounding, vanishing from sight as he did so.
?
Braxton stumbled out when the door suddenly came loose and opened before him.? He looked around in anger but the kitchen was empty.? "What the living fuck is going on here?" he muttered.? Seeing no one he could question or yell at, he shook his head and then scrounged around the kitchen till he'd found sufficient bread and meat to make some decent sandwiches.? ?Placing the makings on a tray, he went back up the stairs to Sam's room.? But when he made to open the door, the handle was freezing to the touch and he jerked his hand back instinctively.
?
"Sam?" he called out, puzzled and concerned.? "I'm back, but there's something wrong with your door.? Are you alright?"
