Re: High Moon Tales. Tales of the Wicked West.

<Charity/Sheriff Miller/Townsfolk>

??? High up, in the rafters of the mezzanine over the restaurant, a lone rat perched unseen. It watched the commotion below intently. Miles away, in her room in Millers Crossing, Charity saw the room through rodent eyes and chuckled softly to herself.

??? Sheriff Miller, now somewhat recovered, stood up. "What in tarnation do ya'll think yer doing?" he yelled. The crowd pulled back for a moment. Look, a bunch of you yahoos been shot! Cletus, Bill," he singled out two of the men, "go git Doc Pardham. Pronto! The rest of you chowderheads cool off. Angelique," he looked for the waitress. Finding her he said, "Tell Sam to send food over to the hoosegow, enough for six."
??? Turning to the five outsiders he said, "you four, find that other fella and git over to the jailhouse. You're not under arrest, but I gotta separate ya t' keep the peace. Besides, I kin stand off a three day Apache raid in there, so you'll be safe." He glared at Flynn, "an' git that damn horse outta here! What the hell were you thinkin?"

<Chase>

?Chase realized he left his new comrade¡¯s flank bare. It wasn¡¯t intentional he didn¡¯t like that the man was insinuating that the woman was his. He could wish, but she wanted nothing to do with him. But his focus was getting her to where they needed to go so he could be free. He knew full well the beast within him would scare these people much worse than the shapeshifter that was using his magic. Because Chase would be killing them, none of them were smart enough to be wielding silver so he would be all but bathing in their blood before midnight!

He was angry on several levels, Etienne reminded him of his wife¡she had done nothing but still had to suffer so he was more than pissed at these yahoos for attacking her without cause. He heard the Sicilian with his smart ass, he knew he was a smart ass cause had the situations been reversed he would have been saying the same thing. But like him he wouldn¡¯t have left his partner's side, the man was backing his play¡so damnit! He owed him now.

¡°She is!¡± Was all he said¡did he want her¡yeah a part of him did, was she worth it¡yes¡she was like him she wanted her life back to be her own¡did he deserves to be with her? HELL NAW!!! He didn¡¯t deserve any woman near this good. But she didn¡¯t deserve this so he would help to set her free. ¡°Sorry¡I will cover you better from now on!¡± He whispered and even then the sounds of his words were quiet but came out guttural as if they were from deep within him.

His eyes narrowed as the Sheriff came too and offered them sanctuary. ¡®Why?!?¡¯ He wanted to be gentle with Etienne, but he couldn¡¯t be some chivalrous knight right now. He might need to put a bullet in someone. With his knife put away and his gun in his hand,? the lovely woman was placed over his shoulder, her rear flank resting against his cheek. He would be more gentle later. He watched as Callie moved to the back, strangely enough, he didn¡¯t mind her being back there. He just was going to make sure not to be in front of her when she pulled her trigger as he was glad she was on their side.

¡°Ready!¡± He spoke his voice came forth still like ground gravel as his weapon was still in his hand. Seems fate had brought them back together anyway. He could only hope she would be ok sharing space with him, he knew he would take care of her till she woke up. This didn¡¯t fit¡still they needed to get out of here at daybreak, the longer they were here the longer whatever that was had more time to do¡whatever it was that Amy was talking about¡he knew it!

(Callie Carson)

? Callie brought up the rear, backing out of the saloon behind the group. Of the original gang of townsfolk who¡¯d come after them, five remained dedicated to the cause. The five followed behind them, facing Callie, two armed with rifles, the other three with pistols. They were all aimed at Callie and the group. She could feel the tension among the group ¨C they were angry and determined, but all five were wary of what Callie and the group would do to them if they opened fire.
? ¡°Y¡¯all are gonna die,¡± an ugly, toothless thug hissed as they reached the door. When it was swung open, there was a blast of warm air and sand blew into the saloon. The storm outside raged.?
? ?¡°Fuck,¡± Callie muttered, craning her head slightly to yell up to the group. ¡°We forgot about the storm. Can we find the sheriff¡¯s office in this mess?¡±
? ?All five townspeople cackled and followed them out the door, into the howling winds and blowing sand¡

(Flynn)

Flynn was starting to feel annoyed.? He'd been doing his best not to outright kill any of the locals but the ones that were still alive and able to move were being persistent, snarling threats as they followed the group out into the street, rifles and guns out menacingly. And the howling storm was so intense that just seeing more than ten feet was proving difficult. ??

There was no getting around that the rear threat had to be dealt with first, but the pookah didn't fancy getting shot, even with ordinary lead bullets. Concentrating, he dropped all of his illusions - the dimming of the light, the red eyes and flaming nostrils, the rattlesnake, and the stack of gold coins on the table - and recast the glamour over their five pursuers... turning them into five horned, fanged demons with batwings, pointed tails and cloven hooves.

As the startled 'demons' began screaming and shooting at each other, Flynn turned and nudged Callie with his flank, offering himself as a shield against the howling wind as he headed for where he remembered the jail being.

[Sicilien]

Now that the sheriff was no longer the dead weight he didn't want to carry, Sicilien was free to help defend their flank against the few townsfolk that the sheriff wasn't able to knock some sense into.? As the party started backing up out of the restaurant and the door was swung open, he, like the rest of them, was buffeted by the chaotic storm outside.? His very being was assaulted by the sand that he was sure was going to end up in places where the sun don't shine, but there was nothing they could about that.? It was either fight to the death inside or be sandblasted to bits.? It was six of one half dozen of the other.

"Well, I hope one of you knows where they're going in this storm, cause I sure ain't!" he yelled back, immediately regretting the action as some grit landed on his tongue.? He could be wrong but Sicilien felt like this troupe had some familiarity with this place, so he was going to have to count on someone to lead him out of this mess.? Though jail wasn't exactly where he's want to spend the night, it didn't seem like that much of a choice either way you spun it.? So he followed the ones that seemed to know where they were going.? He kept his guns up, making sure that Callie's ten and two were covered as they exited this place.? Right before he did so, the atmosphere suddenly changed again, with the darkness that they experienced falling away.? Instead, the riff-raff that followed them suddenly took on demonic shapes, howling and yowling as they set about attacking each other.? It was a very welcome distraction, giving them just enough time to get out.? Now to find this jail and hole up for the night.? He had a lot of questions that he needed answering, and he hoped that his new companions were amicable enough to answer them.
