Re: High Moon Tales. Tales of the Wicked West.

<Old Charity/Sheriff Miller/Townsfolk>

High up, in the rafters of the mezzanine over the restaurant, a lone rat perched unseen. It watched the commotion below intently. Miles away, in her room in Millers Crossing, Charity saw the room through rodent eyes and chuckled softly to herself.

Sheriff Miller, now somewhat recovered, stood up. "What in tarnation do ya'll think yer doing?" he yelled. The crowd pulled back for a moment. Look, a bunch of you yahoos been shot! Cletus, Bill," he singled out two of the men, "go git Doc Pardham. Pronto! The rest of you chowderheads cool off. Angelique," he looked for the waitress. Finding her he said, "Tell Sam to send food over to the hoosegow, enough for six."
Turning to the five outsiders he said, "you four, find that other fella and git over to the jailhouse. You're not under arrest, but I gotta separate ya t' keep the peace. Besides, I kin stand off a three day Apache raid in there, so you'll be safe." He glared at Flynn, "an' git that damn horse outta here! What the hell were you thinkin?"

<Old Chase>

?Chase realized he left his new comrade¡¯s flank bare. It wasn¡¯t intentional he didn¡¯t like that the man was insinuating that the woman was his. He could wish, but she wanted nothing to do with him. But his focus was getting her to where they needed to go so he could be free. He knew full well the beast within him would scare these people much worse than the shapeshifter that was using his magic. Because Chase would be killing them, none of them were smart enough to be wielding silver so he would be all but bathing in their blood before midnight!

He was angry on several levels, Etienne reminded him of his wife¡she had done nothing but still had to suffer so he was more than pissed at these yahoos for attacking her without cause. He heard the Sicilian with his smart ass, he knew he was a smart ass cause had the situations been reversed he would have been saying the same thing. But like him he wouldn¡¯t have left his partner's side, the man was backing his play¡so damnit! He owed him now.

¡°She is!¡± Was all he said¡did he want her¡yeah a part of him did, was she worth it¡yes¡she was like him she wanted her life back to be her own¡did he deserves to be with her? HELL NAW!!! He didn¡¯t deserve any woman near this good. But she didn¡¯t deserve this so he would help to set her free. ¡°Sorry¡I will cover you better from now on!¡± He whispered and even then the sounds of his words were quiet but came out guttural as if they were from deep within him.

His eyes narrowed as the Sheriff came too and offered them sanctuary. ¡®Why?!?¡¯ He wanted to be gentle with Etienne, but he couldn¡¯t be some chivalrous knight right now. He might need to put a bullet in someone. With his knife put away and his gun in his hand,? the lovely woman was placed over his shoulder, her rear flank resting against his cheek. He would be more gentle later. He watched as Callie moved to the back, strangely enough, he didn¡¯t mind her being back there. He just was going to make sure not to be in front of her when she pulled her trigger as he was glad she was on their side.

¡°Ready!¡± He spoke his voice came forth still like ground gravel as his weapon was still in his hand. Seems fate had brought them back together anyway. He could only hope she would be ok sharing space with him, he knew he would take care of her till she woke up. This didn¡¯t fit¡still they needed to get out of here at daybreak, the longer they were here the longer whatever that was had more time to do¡whatever it was that Amy was talking about¡he knew it!

(New Callie Carson)

? Callie brought up the rear, backing out of the saloon behind the group. Of the original gang of townsfolk who¡¯d come after them, five remained dedicated to the cause. The five followed behind them, facing Callie, two armed with rifles, the other three with pistols. They were all aimed at Callie and the group. She could feel the tension among the group ¨C they were angry and determined, but all five were wary of what Callie and the group would do to them if they opened fire.
? ¡°Y¡¯all are gonna die,¡± an ugly, toothless thug hissed as they reached the door. When it was swung open, there was a blast of warm air and sand blew into the saloon. The storm outside raged.?
? ?¡°Fuck,¡± Callie muttered, craning her head slightly to yell up to the group. ¡°We forgot about the storm. Can we find the sheriff¡¯s office in this mess?¡±
? ?All five townspeople cackled and followed them out the door, into the howling winds and blowing sand¡

(Callie Carson)

?? Callie maneuvered out from behind the table and kept her guns trained on what remained of the crowd. She could see the looks of fear, bewilderment and shock on their faces at seeing what all was happening during this standoff. Flynn was essentially freaking them all out with his abilities. Add to that the dead bodies beginning to add up and the group was extremely volatile, but was being pushed back by the events unfolding around the table.
? She watched as the group took several steps back, some outright running away when they witnessed the bizarre, often terrifying things happening with Flynn.? Then there was the man called Sicilian, his forceful approach was also acting as a buffer between the crowd and this newly assembled group. Chase also had made a hostile move at the man holding the woman over his shoulder, making it clear he would not allow harm to come to her.
? Callie surveyed the crowd again. Some were followers, others were clearly under the influence of some kind of otherworldly power. Callie saw no other way out for them. Chase and Sicilian were irritating the bunch with their actions and Flynn simply had them all frightened. Weapons were drawn and she could clearly see several men preparing to move on Chase and Sicilian.
?? The redhead picked two targets, one moving at Chase the other at Sicilian, and she let loose with two bullets, each finding it's mark and dropping the two townsfolk. Two more in the group aimed weapons and fired, a bullet searing past Callie's head, another splintering wood from the table they'd just been seated around.
? A man charged at her, attempting to tackle her to the floor, but she managed to sidestep the attack and slammed her gun against the side of his head, knocking him into a couple of his friends. Cocking back the hammers of her guns, she took aim and prepared to take out more of the attacking bunch...

(Flynn)

The pookah heard the man called Sicilien ask if he could part the crowd so the lot of them could get out of this madhouse. But there was also the matter of the dazed woman one of the crazed ranch hands was holding with a knife pointed at her side.? Fortunately, they were both very close to the door.

Maintaining the illusions he'd created was a steady drain on his glamour, but Flynn still had enough to create at least one or two more.? Flynn flicked his tail up twice in Callie's direction, hoping that she'd get the message that he was about to do something.?

The pookah then glared at the knife-wielder with his glowing red eyes, then stamped his forehoof hard on the wooden floor as he snorted fire at the hand holding the knife.? Suddenly the knife became a rattlesnake, its tail-rattles twitching ominously as it hissed and writhed in the man's hand, twisting about viciously as it tried to sink its fangs into the man's arm.

With the knife-wielder now distracted - and open to being shot by either Callie or one of the others - Flynn charged the remains of the crowd who happened to be blocking the exit, kicking and knocking down every man in his path, trusting that the others would collect the dazed sheriff and woman and get them outside once he'd cleared the way.

[Sicilien]

Everything seemed to be going to Hell in a hand basket and even though it felt like they were being pushed back, Sicilien felt a certain feeling of pride at how everyone handled themselves.? Callie seemed to be as good of a sharpshooter as he was, taking out two more men that lunged at both himself and Chase.? Though the crowd seemed to be split half between attacking and half praying to whatever God they worshiped, Flynn was doing a bang up job of keeping that second half at bay.? When they get out of this, IF they get out of this and get a moment of respite, he'd have to ask how the trickster/medicine man was casting this magic.? It seemed as real as anything else, especially when the horse was snorting fire out of its nostrils.? Things were getting a little too close for comfort though.? Had he more room to move around in his special hit-and-run style, the bullet that missed him and splintered the edge of the table would be nowhere near his side.? But it missed and that's all that mattered, making a note to later thank Callie for keeping the heat off him and Chase.

Chase though...suddenly the man went berserk mode, moving to Jethro's side before anyone one of them could blink.? Sicilien felt the man's volatile energy, roiling like a burning storm, coming off as tendrils of extreme hate and anger.? What the hell, Chase?? What the hell was going on in this place and why the hell is this woman so important to you?? Lover?? Innocent bystander and a man with a burning passion for crusading justice?? Our long awaited guest of honor?? The reaction was certainly unexpected, but whatever this woman represented, whether she was indeed their fifth companion they all waited on or a victim of the situation, Chase left his back vulnerable and exposed to the rest of the bar.? With the way he was focusing on this captive, he was damn sure that the madman wasn't watching out for himself at all.? Sicilien made a small "tch!" sound, scowling a bit as he broke rank and rushed to cover Chase's ass, leaning his back against the man's as he used the barrels of his guns to motion the closest bystanders to move back.

"Either you are the world's biggest dumb fuck or you have a serious hard-on for this woman, I don't know which is worse," he growled at the man, speaking only loud enough for both of them to hear it, turning his head so he could look at him with his one uncovered eye.? When Chase turned to look back at him, he thought he saw a glint of something quite inhuman in him.? His eye opened wide, but as he turned back to keep an out on the rabid riff-raff, his mouth curled into a slight smirk as they both gained some kind of understanding of their true natures.? Perhaps he wasn't the only one with a secret, feeling the skin around his eyepatch slightly itch at the thought.? "Don't really know you any but that woman better be worth her salt for you to act this rashly."

In any case, it was clear that they had to go and they had to go now.? Braving the storm that was raging outside seemed to be a much better option since it didn't involve massacring the entire town.? Flynn must've heard his plea because the horse twitched and suddenly the knife pointed towards the woman turned into a rattlesnake, violently thrashing about as it attempted to slip out Jethro's grip, baring its fangs in an effort to sink them into his skin.? This caused the big, fat man to yelp in shock and surprise, releasing his hold on his captive victim as she fell to the floor in a heap.? The crowd flinched forward as if to grab at this female, but that moment was fleeting as lightning, because they just as quickly withdrew, a look of hesitation clearly written on their faces.? Of course, it helped that they still had a bunch of guns pointed in their general direction and the fact that not a single attacker managed to break through their blockade.? It was intimidating if nothing else.

Looking at the crumpled heap on the floor, Sicilien suddenly felt a surge of anger well up in his throat, like a disgusting lump of bile that he couldn't swallow down.? Without any kind of warning or an indication, he thrust Amano right between Jethro's eyes, pressing the muzzle of the gun with quite a heavy force.? The man already seemed nervous due to Chase's gun and knife pointed at two different places, but he now had a third piece of steel added to the mix, his bulging eyes wildly moving from the snake to the revolver that was uncomfortably nestled in-between his sweaty brows.? The bounty hunter then took a step forward, forcing Jethro to step back in turn, moving him slightly away from woman.? It wasn't lost on him Flynn has charged through the rest of the citizenry, making a clear path for them outside.? Now was the time to run more than ever.

"Chase, grab her and start getting the hell out of dodge.? I'll take the sheriff.? Callie, back us up.? We leave NOW," he said, reaching for the man and slinging him over his shoulder.? It was extra weight he didn't need, but it didn't look like they had much of a choice.? He waited for his compatriot to grab the anonymous woman, wanting him to go first, planning to follow second so that he could back up Callie while he did the same for her.
